€dit Oh there are only 9 players in your list. Sry.

The number of holds is dependent on whether it is a S&T into space or an outright signing.  If an outright signing, you have to actually account for 13 slots.

Obviously the difference between flat for 2021 at $109.1mm and moving up to $115mm is huge in terms of what the Mav's may need to do.  Many of the things I've thought through and supported change some if this turns out to be the correct number.  Of course, 2021 is just a projection at this point and the real number is still a year away.  Still, just the thought of projecting a rising cap given the environment really changes things for Dallas.

Quote:Progress has been made in determining the league’s salary cap and free agency date, NBPA executive director Michele Roberts told USA Today’s Mark Medina.

Roberts indicated the she’s “closer” to reaching an agreement with the league on those pressing matters.

We’re probably closer toward resolving that issue,” Roberts said. “Frankly, that is something we can’t hold off for deciding too much longer.”

report earlier on Tuesday revealed that some team executives are preparing for free agency to begin 48-72 hours after the November 18 draft. Roberts admits that players headed to free agency are eager to determine their futures. However, teams won’t know how much they can spend until the salary cap is determined.

“We have free agents that are losing their minds, as are teams that want to engage and negotiate. So that’s something we don’t have the luxury of delaying a decision on,” Roberts said. “As tough as this is, it’s not life or death. We want to do it right and not do it quickly if it sacrifices doing it right.”

With the loss of revenue due to the pandemic, Roberts acknowledges the players and league have no choice but to find common ground.

“It would be silly to say we’re not possibly going to make a deal,” Roberts said. “Then we would just say hello to the end of professional basketball. I’m not anywhere near there.”

Roberts also addressed a few other topics:
 • She’s unsure how the latest proposal to start next season on December 22 will be received by the players, or how it could affect teams that made deep playoff runs in Orlando. She anticipates that players on teams who didn’t participate in the restart would be in favor of getting the season started sooner than later. “There are guys that haven’t played since the suspension of play in March and they may have a different attitude or not,” she said.  “Frankly, I’ve spoken to players that did stop playing at or about that time, and they’re banging down the doors to get back to the practice facility.”

 • She’s skeptical that teams can allow fans into arenas until a vaccine is widely available. “That’s such a big difference to indoor activity,” she said. “Much of the surge we’re hearing about right now has a lot to do with people returning indoors because of the weather. That concerns me.”

 • Another “bubble-like” setting on a limited basis is a possibility but she hopes it isn’t necessary. “I don’t think anyone wants to do that,” she said. “And if we do it, we don’t want to do it for any length of time.”
I wonder how courageous the NBA really is. Pfizer said today they were going to apply for emergency usage of vaccine in November. AstraZeneca might be applying for it in November as well tho December was deemed more likely.

You can fix the need for a bubble real quick if you got everyone shots right before the season started in late December. That's way too bold tho
Man, Utah has got to be a bottom 5 market in the league. If THAT team goes for $1.6 Billion RIGHT NOW...

I think this is a nice indicator that short term financial troubles will not really affect the teams. Saving a couple of millions is nothing in the big picture. If someone has financial problems, he sells the team for almost two billion and the new owner covers the COVID hole with new injections. It looks more and more clear we will actually not see teams saving money and dumping players because of the crisis.

There will be a record amount of deals in Philly this offseason Smile
Quote:Former Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is close to joining the Sixers to oversee basketball operations, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Morey will sign a five-year deal by this weekend, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Elton Brand will likely remain as GM after Morey joins the organization, Wojnarowski adds (Twitter link). Morey and Brand will serve as a “1-2 punch” in the front office, sources tell David Aldridge of TNT (Twitter link).

Morey spent 14 years in Houston before parting ways with the franchise two weeks ago. Negotiations with Philadelphia began shortly after he left the Rockets and escalated in the past few days, according to Wojnarowski. Morey will become the team’s new president, and he has a strong relationship and history with new coach Doc Rivers (Twitter link).

In Houston, Morey developed a reputation as a financial innovator and a risk taker who was known for constantly pursuing star players. He helped to revolutionize the Rockets as a small-ball team that relied heavily on shooting three-pointers.

In Philadelphia, he will try to build a winner around Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, but he will face immediate challenges, points out Bobby Marks of ESPN (Twitter link). The Sixers have $120MM committed next season to four players: Embiid, Simmons, Tobias Harris and Al Horford. Morey will likely work to shake up the roster during the offseason and will have picks No. 21, 34, 36, 49 and 58 to offer in this year’s draft.

Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta recently said he expected Morey to eventually wind up with an East Coast team. Philadelphia received permission to talk to Morey two years ago and reportedly made an offer, but he elected to remain in Houston.
Well, the Sixers got "smart".  Maybe Morey can trade with us now that he is in the east.  Morey loves shooting so how does he feel about Simmons?
With Morey in Philly, I expect one of the two will happen:
Horford will be shipped somewhere with picks in some complicated record breaking 32 team deal (Dallas Stars and Red Sox are rumored to be included) with Hield ending in Philly. I wonder if Curry and Richardson can be part of that. Or...

He will trade for CP3.
Embiid + for Harden
"I can’t emphasize this enough, for those who were on the outside: Houston was the most aggressive team in the league as far as calling about trade possibilities. We only executed one trade with the Rockets in my seven years with the Grizzlies, largely because as contenders in the same division we were after a lot of the same players.

Nonetheless, we were on the phone with them as much as anyone. As an exec on the opposing side, I always received from them  an idea of what was possible — who might be movable, what they wanted, what assets were in play, etc. You can’t win if you don’t play, as the saying goes. Houston, more than any other team in the league, was always willing to play."

Where? Please don't say Houston.

Wow. Houston goes cheap. Good for Silas, but that's a tough situation to walk into.

Yup Houston. Now let's see who RC replaces him with. I wonder if Silas might take Jahmal Mosley too so we could be looking at an overhaul on the bench

Kenny Atkinson would be nice.

Yap. Besides Indiana the only team that is showing signs the crisis might be seriously affecting them. I think Harden and Westbrook wanted Lucas, so let's see where this leads to.
Good for Silas but now he is dead to me.

Yeah, for sure. I was reading something yesterday about how Houston's delay in signing a new coach might've been an attempt to save some money, lol.
