Yeah somehow picking up Turner or someone similar (who?) will be essential to make this work
I'm not a big fan of the Simmons at center talk

Mostly because if he gets here and still exhibits the same issues (which he most likely will), and the Mavs have to kowtow to protect his image, he will be the most untradeable asset in the league. No one will want to touch him with a 10ft pole and if they do it's because the Mavs are throwing assets into the pile.

This. People are hoping he'll come here and suddenly do a 180 personality-wise and become a guy who is happy setting picks and being a roll man when he clearly sees himself as a point guard.

His primary motivation right now is to get out of Philly at whatever cost. He will say and do whatever he needs to to get out of there. If we traded for him, I'm sure he would say all the right things at first but I have absolutely no doubt that all his old issues will pop back up pretty quickly.

He's already shown willingness to throw away an entire season because the coach hurt his feefees. I don't trust a guy like that to ever care about anything other than himself. What I think would happen is we would end up blowing all of our assets on him only for him to continue to shrink in the playoffs and eventually clash with Luka over who gets to handle the ball more. Then we'd be stuck with him and his massive contract or be forced to trade him for pennies on the dollar.
I bought Philly at Dallas tickets for the game on 2/4 earlier this week for my son's birthday.  Could be an interesting evening.

So, we've had a "Luka likes Simmons" report and a "Simmons likes Dallas report".  Hmmm.  Who said that GM's typically start to rework rosters at their first TDL (or something like that based on Chicago).

I tend to agree with the idea that we need a shot blocker if KP is in the outgoing for Simmons.  I hope KP stays if we get Simmons as I think that pairing works well at both ends of the floor.

I'll throw another wrinkle into this.  A podcast I listen too theorized Morey really wants Harden either now or in the summer.  Is KP/KD and Kyrie a possibility?  If not KP, what is Harden's market value these days?

Question is if someone like Kleber would be enough. Obviously Turner would be better but the Mavs probably will run out of assets if they are going after both Simmons and Turner.
Mavs played great defense with Maxi+Powell starting in the last couple of games. Simmons would add even more versatility and replace Powell in the lineup. Kleber would also provide the necessary shooting.
Big problem is that I do not trust Maxi´s health. Don´t think he is the right choice for a 30 min/82 games spot. Maybe the Mavs could take a look at players in the MLE range and find someone that fits into the TPE (Boucher, Theis).

Why would the Nets willingly choose Kyrie over Harden?

And if KP is good enough to be featured as the main piece in a package for Harden, why aren't the Mavs doing this right now?

Interesting idea. I have no doubt that Morey would love Harden. Although in this case I think the simpler deal is probably KP to BKN, Kyrie to PHI, and Simmons to DAL. A trade of 3 guys who have been trade candidates for a little while now.

Why not Simmons to Brooklyn without Dallas in the deal? Because with Harden at the point and Durant on the wing I think KP fills a much bigger need.

Somehow turning KP into Simmons would then leave all of the other assets available to put together a package for Turner.

That would be incredible....

This is a fascinating suggestion.  But to be honest, I think I might prefer to cut Philly out of this and do KP for Kyrie straight up.  Then use your remaining assets for Turner.  Your starting lineup would be something like:

Turner
DFS
Bullock
Luka
Kyrie

The same way if you trade for Turner and he is being on the perimeter. I guess you dont have much worries anymore about the front court, if the deal is really Turner/Powell. If its more assets (FN/JG) or even a pick added, i am jumping of a bridge. I am still wondering how the team would look with Josh Green / FN playing 30 min each. Their +/- so far is off the charts and both seems to work well within Kidd's defensive system Big Grin Neither JG nor Frank have a negative offensive on/off so far.

But now to the reality:

People are on that hopium that if they trade for Turner, KP is going to be traded for a wing or for John Collins. What if the overall plan is to keep KP + Turner for now?
People are on that hopium that if you trade DFS, that JG/FN getting "more" minutes now. What if the result is more of Luka/Brunson/THJ? Big Grin

THJ is still on the team and making 20 mill. Unless THJ is dealt somewhere. He is not going to be benched simply because of his contract, no matter how well JG/FN are performing.

The Knicks game was the prime example what could very well happen: Barely JG, no FN, yet back to Luka - Brunson - THJ. Without DFS the odds of Luka - Brunson - THJ sharing minutes might go up.
Luka / Brunson / THJ played the same minutes vs. the Knicks (13 min) than in the last 5 games before combined.

If the reason one of Brunson/DFS is dealt is luxury tax (Fisher intel?), just try to salary dump THJ and pay both ...
For me, Hunter from Hawks is a player to target. There is some injury risk valid enough, but Im not convinced those are of long term nature. When he plays, he shows signs of a future elite level player. I think he could be had at a great value at the moment. He has ability and talent better than DFS at both ends and ceiling far higher.

Another is Sabonis. I have written a lot about him.

Brunson
Luka
Hunter
Sabonis
Maxi

That's my championship team. KP, THJ, Powell players to move. Including some picks. Let's face it, With the way Doncic has taken superstar mode, we in a win now mode.

Of course not. Talk about players who wouldn't fit with Embiid...

If this ends up being the package for Ben Simmons, I'm going to laugh for days.
Is Turner trying to force his way out of Indiana. Playing really bad in the last few games. Usually he is super active and rotating around the rim to contest everything. Right now he is just going through the motions. Offense is even worse.

January numbers are looking brutal:
10.5pts 5.7reb
44% FG, 14% from 3, 52% TS
-15.2 per100
DAL in: Collins, Bogdanovic, Holmes.
ATL in: Barnes, DFS, Brunson.
SAC in: Porzingis, Williams.

Luka/Ntilikina
Bogdanovic/Hardaway
Bullock/Green
Collins/Kleber
Holmes/Powell

Now that is some clever work. I definitely would be happy with the end result. Not sure about the other teams.

Interesting. I appreciate the creativity.

Bogdonavic is a guy that I think could be a legit trade match with Dallas, especially if THJ is going the other way. They make about the same money, are both struggling this season, and even have ties to the other team (THJ with his prior time in ATL and Bogi with Luka friendship vibes).

The framework I keep coming back to is THJ/DFS/Maxi for Bogi/Collins. That would fit the needs of both rosters (Mavs PF and Hawks defense), swap 2 gunners into new situations, and buy Atlanta more salary flexibility both now and in the future.

I dig this a TON.
