I've long thought that the Mavs should target the Kings roster for a potential trade. Just not sure what they would want from us.

We wanted to trade up in last years draft, with Haliburton as a target.  We've been long rumored to be interested in Buddy Hield/ Richaun Holmes. Our old pal Harrison Barnes is there too. Marvin Bagley is an interesting project.  Tristan Thompson would add some toughness and rebounding that we lack on this roster.

Would they be interested in Porzingis?

How about this crazy 3 way trade:

Mavs acquire:  Hield / Holmes / Danny Green / Korkmaz

Kings acquire:  Ben Simmons / Dwight Powell / Trey Burke

Sixers acquire: Porzingis / Haliburton / Bagley / Moses Brown

Some room to play around with moving parts. Seems like the Kings are getting robbed here. May have to throw some 1st round picks at them.

Which I guess is the point where a deal becomes an actual possibility

Just hurts us that the MBT fumbled the contract situation. Noticeably more value if he was a restricted free agent like he should be.
I hope to god Nico has hired on a contract expert or 2. No reason to make amateur mistakes with the budget they have

I think if we had done Brunson's contract correctly he would have been restricted last year.  That means he would have potentially already signed for 4 years at roughly 40-50 million.  That would look like a very valuable asset right now, and we also would not be worried about him bailing anytime soon, so he would be more valuable as an asset and we would have more leverage.  Its a real shame they messed that up.

I just don't see why the Sixers would want KP next to Embiid. They tried that experiment with Horford and it failed miserably. Further if the Sixers are just fine with KP as the centerpiece for Simmons, why include the Kings at all? Wouldn't the Mavs want Simmons?

I agree that the Kings seem like a prime trade partner for the Mavs. Of course the grand prize(s) are Fox and Haliburton. Perhaps even Richaun Holmes is available. I just don't see what the Kings would really want from the Mavs as there is no shot they are trading DFS/Maxi/Luka/KP/Brunson for the Kings spare parts.

Maybe there is a trade with THJ here? THJ for Buddy/Bagley?

I agree, not sure we have anything the Kings want.  I did the 3 way with Simmons going to the Kings for the argument that he doesnt fit here.  I can see a scenario where Hield/Holmes is a better package/fit for the Mavs.

And in my trade scenario, Haliburton would probably be the centerpiece for the Sixers. With Porzingis as a bonus/salary matching.

Now the THJ/ Powell swap for Buddy/Bagley is interesting. I'd love a way to get Holmes in here though.

You have Philly effectively getting both KP and Haliburton for Simmons.  Know way they are getting that kind of value for Simmons.

I don't see any reasons the Mavs want Hield.  We already have THJ and folks are bitching about that contract.  Hield is a better volume shooter, but even worse defender, and that contract is worse than THJ.  I would rather have Barnes than Hield.

If you are in the camp of trading KP just to trade him, maybe you do something like KP for Holmes/Barnes.  I probably would have pulled that trigger last offseason, but I think KP has more value than that right now.

The real catch would be Haliburton.  Maybe KP/Brunson/DFS + 2 firsts for Haliburton/Holmes/Barnes?

I'm not as out on Porzingis as others, i'd actually prefer to add a "3rd star" to Luka/Kristpas.  We dont have the ammo for a Dame/Beal/etc. I see Porzingis as our only way to change things up.

I'd probably pull the trigger to send him away for Holmes/Barnes.
Just thinking about a 3-way trade between Cavs Mavs and Blazers

Cavs get: THJ+WCS

Blazers get: Kevin Love

Mavs get: RoCo+Nurkic

It's a little optimistic to think the Mavs could get both Covington and Nurkic but in any case it's the ideal and the Blazers need to shed some salary to get Love.
Mavs get Dragic...
Raps get THJ...

Can we bring Boucher into the TPE?

Would be a good trade if we could actually make it happen. We'd still need a roster spot for Chriss. Wish we could include Moses or Burke too.

I'd almost be willing to just take on Kevin Love for THJ + WCS if Portland doesn't want to dance.
Marc Stein on Ben Simmons:

Quote:Two key developments:

? The Sixers continue to regard the hard-for-outsiders-to-fathom prospect of convincing Ben Simmons to come back to the team this season as their "goal No. 1," according to a source familiar with Philadelphia's thinking.

? The Atlanta Hawks, meanwhile, have emerged as a new Simmons suitor to watch, sources say, as last season’s Eastern Conference Cinderellas slide farther and farther away from the levels they reached during an unexpected run to the conference finals. The Hawks awoke Monday, courtesy of a 2-4 road trip, marooned in 12th in the East at 17-22 and down to No. 27 leaguewide in defense rating.

Skepticism is the kneejerk reaction around the league to Philly’s plan, whether that stems from the serious doubts in circulation about the Sixers’ ability to convince Simmons to rejoin them … or the belief that it’s merely a negotiating ploy to convince interested teams to improve their trade offers.

Philly just has to say they want Simmons to stay so they can attempt to use that as leverage leading up to the trade deadline. My guess anyway.

Philly has to be crazy to want this guy back. It has to be a smokescreen. They are 22 -16 without him. Embiid is playing like the MVP. Adding a few good rotation players puts them right in the mix w/ the Bulls, Bucks, and Nets in East.

We'll gladly give them THJ. Take a Dwight Powell too.

Considering that Grant would be a complement to KP while Turner would be far more of a replacement, and considering that the Mavs are not a suitor for Grant but rather for Turner, I think that speaks volumes about KP's long-term prospects with the Mavs. And that makes me happy.

His value may never be higher, as i believe another year long injury is around the corner.

We're knocking off the best teams in the NBA without him. Trade him for Turner. Trade him for Simmons. Trade him in a deal for two starters.  Do something Nico
