I disagree. Barnes was an expiring contract and the Kings intention to make a big offer was widely reported. Therefore there was external pressure to trade Barnes instead of losing him for nothing. Return was crap, decision was correct.

In the case of Porzingis there is no external pressure to move him. It would be a completely voluntary internal decision to change directions.

BKN has lost their last 9 games and are in 8th place in the East. Not the return expected with their investments.

Are we getting a whiff of desperation now?

Only problem I see is the possibility that there simply is no interest in KP. If we want to get rid of him. Why would any team want him?

Yea, a KP trade is wishful thinking right now.  I think he's missed games with 5 separate injuries this year.  He's not quite John Wall level but that has to be one of the worst deals in the league.

You have to pray he has a 30-40 game stretch of playing/being healthy at some point so teams are at least intrigued.

If we take out COVID, he's only missed 13 games (and counting) due to injury. You can't fault a guy for getting COVID and it shouldn't be held against him as some sort of tally on the injury prone mark.

That said 13 games is still a lot out of 55. And despite my defense, KP is injury prone. I'm ready to move off from him, but I don't think he's even in the remotely same ball park as "worst deals in the league". We just saw McCollum, a guard who's 5 years older and has missed a large chunk of time get moved for a relatively decent haul.

Just wish they´d get it over with, so the other teams can start making their final moves.

Again, I'm not arguing any of that. I am the biggest KP hater here, by far (surely you know that).

But, IF HE'S HERE, he's gong to play. I MUCH PREFER the way he has played (and the team has played with him) when he has played at the 5, with either Kleber or DFS with him. I HATE the way the team played with KP/Powell out there with a passion, and I don't see any reason to expect that to work better with Holmes.

Honestly, I'm unsure just how much of an upgrade over Powell Holmes would actually be over Powell's recent high level of play. I think you'd gain something defensively in the paint because he's stronger, but I bet he's less switchable than Powell, and I think people would be shocked how much the drop-off would be in the pick and roll game on offense. At least temporarily. And remember, we're talking about a kid who has played with the kings for years. Are we sure he's going to instantly care about getting the defensive rotations just right, the way this current group seems to?

Don't get me wrong - I like the player a lot. I think there's a chance he doesn't make the kind of difference here that's being assumed. And if the plan is to play him with KP, I'm confident that will make the team worse than it has looked recently.

I am really not sure about him. His contract is a year shorter than THJ, but will cause an asset because of that. THJ is great locker room presence and satisfied with whatever role. Will Hield be the same?

There you go, @"SleepingHero".

I honestly wonder how he'd get minutes, personally. You give him Green's minutes (which is probably what would happen), the defense gets worse.

Knowing Carlisle, that could be the very reason Indy would be willing to do a trade straight-up.

I don’t see him as “satisfied with whatever role”. I think he stays professional when he comes off the bench, but his numbers, to me, show how “satisfied” he is with that role.
Drummond?, Luka dunks over him now. Smile

Continued speculation on Holmes with report that Mavs are 1 of 3 teams that have inquired about him.  Gunn continues to comment on the idea

Here's my thought process. If you asked me last year if this team could ever become good defensively I'd have say there's not a chance with Powell, Brunson, THJ, and Luka all playing significant minutes.

Kidd proved me wrong. A shooter like Hield is worth giving up a couple of open layups.
