Not to overact from one game, but that is exactly what I am going to do.

The narrative against Wood has been so fucking cringe. Isaac Harris of locked on Mavs is probably crying rn. Kidd playing hardball with the starting position is moronic. Shocker. I'm right again.

Kidd's rotations where so weird tonight.  I'm assuming he takes Wood out at the end because "our identity is defense" but how does that jive with playing Luka and THJ at the same time...ever?
I'm ok with Wood not starting so Luka can ball hog his way for 15 points in the first quarter.

But Wood needs to finish games.
24 minutes with 25 points and Kidd couldn’t find 4 more minutes for him. What happened to staying with the hot hand?
I'm saying it right now.
If Wood doesn't start games nor finish games, he'd be as good as gone.

Can't poke the crazy in Wood too much and expect him to be a good soldier.
How many FTs did he miss?

7 out of 10. How many 3’s did he miss you ask? 3 out of 7. How many total fgs did he miss you ask? 6 out of 15.
He's a 65% FT shooter. Its game 1, he'll revert to the mean before its over.
Damion Lee was the hot hand and Monty kept him in. Wood was our hot hand and Kidd sits him. Ball game.

He was really loose with his pick setting, so that needs to be worked on.

Saying the right things, but here's what he means:

Ï'm fully expecting this doesn't happen again

Could it be possible that the Wood needing to buy in narrative was just cringe bullshit? I wouldn't be surprised if this is all just a cover for having to promise a starting spot to JaVale fucking McGee.

I think it has more to do with Kidd wanting a defensive identity for the team and it's the only reason for the end of the game lineup which was still a massive blunder.  His coaching was so bad tonight I almost miss Rick.

He knows he has to earn that by being better at the line and on D. Nice to see him get a good block in the 3rd on Ayton though. He'll get there. I don't know who he pushes out but I think he's starting come playoff time.

Boys looked real good tonight. Should have had the win but no biggie being that they are acclimating new players in. Opening night is nothing. I want to see them playing great late in the year.

This is exactly right, of course. That's a great perspective - happy to know Wood is able to see it.
JaVale will miss some time and this will all work itself out.
