Everything in life should be taken with a grain of salt. Everything will come out eventually. The Mavs have a proven track record of being terrible and I would wager everything in this pod will be common knowledge in a few years.

Who knows if there's validity to this report. I think the concerning part for everyone here is that they know it could POSSIBLY be true. That's the hard part for me. Cuban is a terrible owner and I truly feel like this is what they planned for Brunson until he forced his way into the starting lineup and was too good to ever be removed. He planned to leave to spit them at that point and I don't blame him.

I think we already know most everything in the podcast is true (bullet points you posted).  The hosts just have an obvious bias and used that bias to extrapolate with Luka/Kyrie.  The speculative talk is painted with a via negative brush which might bare fruit in the future.

On the flipside, if Wood had a market, he would be gone.  I'm sure if given a similar contract in the offseason, he'd pick the non-Mavs option.

Wood is the ultimate "money ball" player that I've been harping for the Mavs to go after for a while.  It's too bad how this has all worked (not worked) out.
(02-28-2023, 03:17 PM)cow Wrote: [ -> ]Lot's of speculation about Luka's wants, Kyrie's philopshy and impact on his impeding free agency, and the Mavs' motivations.  The person doing most of the talking often sounds like a bitter fan, especially towards Cuban, and while that is certainly justifiable, I'm not sure I'd put much weight into any of the chatter.

Well, they're claiming this is all coming straight from Wood's agent, so that's not speculation. It is probably shaped into a narrative Wood's agent wants to get out there, however. But, I didn't get a sense that they were being deliberately false (the podcasters). Misguided, maybe. Incorrect, maybe.

If what his agent is saying is true and he won't sign an extension, which is his right, then what market would there be for him? If he was signed past this year, I suspect there would be market for him. Also I think these podcasts guys are correct about the Mavs mouth pieces doing Cuban's work for him.
Yes, they stated in the beginning that all their actual information comes from his agent. So this is Wood’s side speaking their truth. Doubt we’ll ever really know the Mavs side truth.

One thing I do want to point out, after the alleged knowledge that Det did want to keep him. Have the issues in Houston gotten any better with Wood gone? Have we seen any concrete evidence of him not getting along with teammates here? There are counters to these questions (contract year being the biggest one), but he hasn’t shown US what is being said about his character.

I really hope to see a lot of Maxi/Wood lineups going forward. If we do, I’m confident we’ll end the season well.

If true, it puts another layer on the Cato article outing Donnie.
These are extremely serious allegations. If this thing about Wood is true or not, it means the following (unless the agent denies or Wood fires his agent):
1. Bridges with Wood are burnt (why the hell didn't they trade him???)
2. Mavs will suffer consequences. It will cast shadow of the doubt. Some will believe this story, some will believe Mavs, some will not know who to believe

If true, Mavs are idiots. Just a toxic environment.

If not true. Well, Wood is an idiot. Still, Mavs should act sooner.

Pretty much lost all credibility at this point.

Don't follow this one at all.  How did Cato "out" Donnie?  Cato was the one who wrote an article about how Donnie got fired because he was reporting sexual misconduct.

If Cato was anyone's mouth piece, it's definitely Donnie's.

Dollars to donuts this is a game of telephone.  I doubt an agent is going to go to a d-tier podcast as a mouthpiece for a client.

The Wood discussion all sounded plausible (and honestly nothing we haven't already heard from other sources) up until a podcast called "Mavs Outsiders" took the opportunity to trash Tim Cato of all people of being controlled by Cuban. That's a clear marketing push on their part and honestly doesn't come across as credible.
Perhaps I’m a weirdo, but it seems obvious that reporters the Mavs like get more info. I don’t think it’s some house of cards sex and power for stories type thing where someone ends up getting killed lol.
Sure. It's perfectly normal for people who actually build relationships to get news. But Cato is arguably the reporter most responsible for bringing down the previous Mavs front office with his Voulgaris hit piece. I seriously doubt he's on Cuban's friends list.
Oh boy
I couldn’t tell but Cuban made a gesture at the end of the first half when Wood got a dunk and admired his play a bit too long.  I didn’t think it was long.  I thought Cuban made a motion with his hand to get back on defense.  It was bad angle and maybe he was doing something else or talking to the ref. I thought it was directed at Wood though.  If so, doesn’t appear Cuban is much of a fan either of Wood
So, Wood leaves the game in the 4th after his poor outing and goes to the locker room. I think it’s on the table that we release him

He didn’t go to the locker room, he went to the tunnel to let out some emotion. We have no clue where that emotion was directed at, but we know Luka let into him before him coming out. Was he frustrated at Luka? Kidd? Cuban? Or HIMSELF? After that he was back on the bench.
Also, it would be an ultimate crap move to let him go AFTER the playoff eligibility date.

Like Rondo quitting on the team crap move only the opposite during the player empowerment era.
Wood looks checked out.
