You can basically combine the Jrue and KP trades as they happened so close to each other and with the same assets.

KP trade for BOS:

BOS: KP, '23 first (from MEM, #25 overall), '24 first top 4 protected (from MEM but its GSW pick)

MEM: Marcus Smart

WAS: Tyus Jones (from MEM), Gallinari (from BOS), Muscala (from BOS), 2023 2nd (from Boston#35 overall)

Then later the Jrue trade:

BOS: Jrue Holiday

POR: Brogdon, Robert Williams III, '24 FRP from GSW, and a 2029 FRP unprotected.

That #25 pick from the 2023 NBA draft was the pick Boston was going to use on OMax, only for the Mavs to swoop in at the last second and grab him at #24. BOS then traded that pick to the Pistons for  2 2nds. The most favorable of the DET, GSW, or WAS 2nd in 2025. And the most favorable of the MIN, NOP, NYK, or POR 2nd in 2026.

Net trades:

BOS in: KP+Jrue+2 future 2nds.

BOS out: Smart, Brogdon, Williams III, Gallo, Muscala, 2024 FRP via GSW, 2023 FRP via MEM, 2029 FRP unprotected, and a 2023 2nd (#35)

Celtics gave up a LOT. But they also got a lot back. Brogdon was the reigning 6MOY. Timelord was in the running for DPOY. Smart was their 3rd best player. But KP fits well there. It was a calculated risk and its worked out for them. Great GM'ing by Brad.

This is such a GOOD video. It makes me wonder why in the world are we not putting Luka in some of these actions and having him create for others in a read and react offense.

Iso is great. He's elite. Same with Kyrie. I just think a sprinkle more of offball movement would go a long way.

If I remember it correctly Luka doesn't want his teammates to move as much because he needs them to be in certain spots. I am all for a change. Honestly just need to go back to the RC era flow offense but it starts with Luka. He needs to trust his teammates to make decisions.

I think that was specifically in regards to their Spain PnR or regular PnR where Luka collapses the defense, draws the double, and kicks it to the guy in their spots. And to be honest I don't mind that type of basketball at all.

But a couple more set plays where we can get some act/react motion and cuts might unlock another level of offense which is already nutty on the face of it.

Of course it all starts with Luka. I'm more so saying this as a critique on Kidd and his 1 dimensional game plan.

Eh. 98 is right in terms of Luka getting on board; i.e. not being so anal-retentive about guys being "in the right spot."

Not sure how I feel about this story.

On one hand, Grant Williams is a clown, and I'm glad the Mavs' superstar has the ability to waste people like that.

On the other hand, guys like Jordan and Kobe are usually the ones APPLYING that type of pressure to others in practice, not having to respond to getting called out. Williams was brought in here to be sort of a leader, and it seems like he was trying to do just that. Kind of makes Luka seem immature.
I do think Luka is immature but Jordan was also famous for taking nights off and showing up hungover on random regular season days. Unless someone pissed him off…

I don’t think a young role player like Grant Williams can be a leader on a team. Mavs do have a leadership void. But not a lot of players in the NBA with the credibility/resume to lecture Luka. He has to take that next step himself it seems like.

I think that's all good insight and I agree. Good point about Jordan, and you can obviously say the same about others, like Iverson, for example.

Here's the part where I bring up how catastrophic it was to lose Brunson. Again. He was obviously the leader.

I think Luka will grow into it under the right conditions. I just wish I felt the Mavs were working towards some type of accountability with him. I hope they are.

Well, I'm only illustrating the POV, not overtly declaring it as my own (although things like this do cross my mind about him).

What I'm saying is that of the two players, Grant Williams and Luka, you'd think the guy around whom the team is built wouldn't need Williams to tell him that. I think ideally it would come the other way around, and it kind of sounds from Finley like Luka trained hard "at" or "to" Williams, and that the goal (accomplished) was to make him look foolish...for trying to get the team's star to lead by example.

Then again, I can certainly see your POV above, and as I said, Williams is a clown, and the motivation might have been inappropriately clownish. As in, maybe he just deserved what he got.

Just interesting.

Without the full context I think it is just overall guessing and making narratives. We don't know if Luka (allegedly) not practicing very hard was a regular occurence or just a bad day. We don't know if Luka is perhaps pushing other guys on most of practices or not. The only thing that we do know is sort of a funny story Finley told.

Agreed. As a reminder, my first words were "not sure how I feel about this story."
Way early but so far the starting rotation switches have worked. Lively has been impressive coming I. Off the bench. Jones has played well and Green has looked good coming in with the second unit. Exum being the first sub has also looked good. I thought Josh looked really good on defense the last two games’.

Very small ample size though.

Lively also looks like he may be trying to play for the Cowboys as a WR the way he is getting those bombs from Luka.

So much debate over Lively/Gafford, we haven't really talked about Green/DJJ much. He does seem to be contributing a lot lately.

Still, I'm uneasy with the shooting combo of DJJ and Washington. Feels to me like they should rotate with each other, not play at the same time, but I guess they really want DJJ to guard the ball.

I absolutely love this story.

Feels like an old Jordan story where someone tries to take on the crown and gets whooped.

No wonder why Grant fizzled out early. He had a hot start, thought he was the shit, started talking like he was the shit, and promptly lost the locker room and got on everyone's nerves.

Mavs FO took a chance. I can still see why they wanted him, and to be fair, if Grant had a smaller mouth, he'd still fit in well off the bench. But whatever. Good story by Finley there.

Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Dončić and Chicago Bulls guard-forward DeMar DeRozan have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 20 of the 2023-24 season (March 4-10).

Pretty crazy that Luka is second in the league in 3 pointers made behind Steph Curry.   Curry is shooting at 40.7 percent on 713 attempts.  Luka is shooting at 38% on 594 attempts.
