FGump said it better than I can in the Charlotte game thread, but this team's performance the last 2 weeks can easily be explained if they were trying to tank. Kidd's odd lineups and rotations, lack of apparent game plan, etc. all the oddities make lot more sense if the team wanted to try and get that top 10 pick.
But they couldn't just outright say we're sitting Luka and Kyrie when they were still in the midst of the play-in game and could make the playoffs. That would've been prime material to be ridiculed. Instead they let Kidd operate as normal, tank out of the play in, and then shut down Luka+Kyrie when things are out of reach.

Playing them is exact prime material to be ridiculed. Portland for example recognized it makes no sense to compete this season and they stopped a couple of weeks ago.

To be fair Portland has been trying to tank. Dallas has been trying to win. But their records are pretty comparable over the last 10 games.
I am fully expecting a win the last 3 games that screws things up. Now should be the time where we suit up Romo.

Yep, if either of them gets hurt enough to not be recovered to start next season (not unlikely with them getting 40 mpg…), all because of appearances or even to try to win games is the biggest mistake they could make.

Portland's rumor about shutting Dame down came out around March 17th. Mavs were 36-35 at that point. They had just beat the Lakers and miraculously moved from 8th to 5th in 1 night after the Warriors lost.
So at that point the Mavs were squarely in the playoffs. Shutting down Luka and Kyrie at that time would've been unthinkable.

Perfect, thanks for the clarification - that means the Spurs can win out and especially win the last game against their Texan rivals, great!

Great podcast between Stein and Haynes.
Haynes shares a lot of insight on the Kyrie situation. Also said that Dudley will be coaching the Mavs summer league team this summer so it looks like Kidd will be here for the long haul.

Lol, purely speculation...
Knicks fans are some ungrateful b*stards. Cuban rebuild their whole franchise and they still b*tch and moan about possibly not getting the 11th pick, thinking that the Mavs are intentionally tanking, which would still only give them a 80% chance to keep the pick. As if Cuban knew what that word means. He thinks losing the last two games of the season after you are mathemetically eliminated from the play-in is considered tanking.

The one thing I don´t get is the regular reports how great it is that Kyrie is playing hurt, showing that he´s committed to the Mavs. It should be a horrible sign that he has been injured/hurt 75% of the time here.
Only legit reasons Kidd will not be fired:
1. They were stealth tanking.
2. Cuban is a moron.
Reason he´s not fired: Cuban has no balls. Only weak ownership allows players to dictate moves. Heat and Lakers both stood up to LeBron, when he wanted Spoelstra fired and Irving acquired for all future assets.
