Maxi was already breaking down. Not sure he'll ever be what we paid him to be.

I tried to tell everyone. It was met with a bunch of “good contract/extension” replies. If the extension was at $6-8 (or lower) the hit wouldn’t be so bad.

Lol, it's still a good extension. He'll be fine.
its not an extension that will cripple a team, but i don't think we'll get much production out of him going forward.

And I'm hoping I'm 100% wrong on this.

Personally, I'm not worried about it at all, besides how much of a drag it will be not to have him this year. And honestly, if that means Wood gets a fair shake it might ultimately be a good thing.

He's still going to be Kleber when he comes back. He'll still be able to space the floor and defend bigs better than most players in the NBA. He'll still be a good weak side shot blocker. Like, the doom and gloom doesn't really make sense to me. I think that extension is one of the smartest things they've done in a long time.

Players get injured, guys.

It’s an extension that won’t be movable, so he’ll have to be the leftovers of the tear down. If it’s half the amount, he’s a throw in for salary matching. The crippling part is having a team full of overpaid players.
You guys are acting like Maxi had to have his leg amputated.

No doubt. It's a major setback for this season, but it seems like the majority of the board was on their way towards giving up on that, anyway. I have no idea how people are making the jump from there to "Kleber sucks and his contract is terrible."

He's still going to be a piece pretty much any team would want, including the Mavs. He's not young, but he's not old.
The extension was awful. Anyone could see he was breaking down last year.  The only hope of salvaging this is if a team takes on his contract for salary matching purposes in a trade for a useful player.  At least Kidd will be forced to play Wood more now, so maybe we can get a silver lining.

I think I knew this but maybe forgot.   Seeing him almost 27 years old as our two way guy is pretty shocking.

Can he play defense?   Or is he strictly a shooter?

There are not many options out there now and the G-league showcase is important for these players.  But if neither guy factors into your future moving forward, I would be looking at other options for a while now.   It sucks and ruthless, but part of the job.

You write this as if Maxi isn't a useful player himself...

Injuries happen guys.  Pouring crap on top of an already crappy start to this season, sure, but some of these takes on this injury are wild.

He can't really guard anyone.  Can certainly shoot the lights out though.

Took him 32 games to realize that Wood+Luka is probably for the best.

I still don't think Wood is a foundational piece, but he's undoubtedly our 2nd best player.
Important stretch for the Mavs.   Fri at Houston, Sunday Lakers, Tuesday Knicks, Thursday Houston, Sat Spurs, Monday 1/2 Houston.

6 games that may determine if this season is worth saving.    I am going to set the mark at 5-1.   That is a high bar how this team is playing but they need to take advantage of this stretch.

All the good old Marc stories. Letting Nash go. 2006 finals. Tyson Chandler trade. 2011. All the way to the Luka draft.

One thing I didn´t know. The analytics vs scouts part prior to picking Luka. Thankfully team analytics won...

They've got Houston 3 times within a week?   Who made up this crazy schedule this year?  Is it to cut down on travel?
