Took a bigger role over money I guess.

That is too bad.  We had a tight fit though.  Without Hardaway it would have been more clear.  Personally, I prefer Dinwiddie play while here over the current version of Hardaway.  Hardaway has been important to this team though and I am not sure Dinwiddie can play like he had previously.   I just think Dinwiddie is the better fit between the two.   Nice pickup for the Lakers though.  I think he will help.

Mavs in a tough position without much backup if Kyrie or Luka misses games.  Especially with Dante's not being reliable to be on the court.  It could hurt if one misses multiple games.   Dinwiddie would have been good as the third guard, but then there are questions what happens to Hardaway minutes.  Can you still get Green close to 30 minutes, etc.
Oooofff
Who's our next target?

I have no idea.  Not much out there.  Do they promote AJ or look externally.  I don't think I see Morris.  We have PJ, Maxi, Jones Jr at PF.

I think a wing who is a solid shooter is who I would want.  Those are hard to find.  Daniel House?   I guess my fear is Kidd would start this guy over Green.  LOL.
I guess there's no way to watch the news conference? I can't find it online anywhere.
Tough to beat a team who plays at Crypto arena for Dinwiddie

There’s absolutely no question that he has a bigger role waiting for him there, regardless of what anyone here says.

He wasn’t going to take many, if any, minutes away from Hardaway. He wasn’t going to play ahead of Exum or Irving, despite being wonderful insurance for time that either of those guys missed. I’m pretty sure that the Lakers pitch was better than “Help us by filling in for Kai when he doesn’t play and fill for Dante while he’s out, too.”

Honestly, it would’ve been a nice luxury to get him, but this is pretty low on the list of things to get in a twist over, imho.

Don't start being positive now Cool
Does not bother me at all. Think the rotations make more sense this way. Hardy deserves a shot with a more vertically balanced line-up. Take a chance on another youngster to evaluate him up close until the summer. Rotation looks pretty set.

I call ‘em like I see ‘em. No agenda here, other the desire for the Mavs to succeed.

Totally agree.

My fear is that the more minutes Hardy gets, the more his trade value, such as it is, is going to plummet to nothingness.

Nah, he has been playing well lately. My only fear related to Hardy is that I kind of feel like it was a waste to make it past the deadline with both he and Hardaway here, specifically because he won’t get enough minutes to develop. I really felt like one of them had to go at the deadline – whichever made sense in the right deal.
With Dinwiddie off the board it would be nice to see us convert a two way player into a standard contract to lock them up. Obviously only do this if we think we have something. It would be nice to have a few upside young players available for a small trade down the road

Or we could go the team chemistry route with Morris or someone else. Get another cheerleader

Marcus is not Markieff, and would be more than a cheerleader.

The most annoying thing about Marcus would be having to hear and read that "Senior" abject nonsense.

But SleepingHero mentioned guys that he thought would fail here but worked out and guys that he thought would work but didnt...

Very small sample size of players...but the common theme in the guys that worked out(Kyrie and College stud Lively)...is that they have talent, skill or both.

Nothing against you SleepingHero...but this is about basketball...to think that Kyrie would not work out is crazy talk to me.   They guy is a literal bball God...immensely skilled.   NBA starters need to have talent, skill or both...and size helps too.

Just to be absolutely clear, I didn't think Kyrie would work out because of his off court stuff. Not on court. I also figured he'd walk in the summer. Not only has Kyrie been absolutely chill from the moment he's come, he signed a team friendly deal to boot.

Hardy is Klutch. Seems like a good opportunity to do Rich Paul a solid and get him to a team where he can play and potentially get a real contract end of season

Hardaway has been so good and he fits better after the moves. Plus if we made a big move, then who we trade for would likely replace Hardaway’s scoring. There’s no path for Hardy

On the other hand, I don’t think that Hardaway making it past this trade deadline means he is likely to get another contract here, regardless of how well he plays. It just feels like he is on his way out over the summer, when he’s expiring.

At that point, Hardy might have a pretty obvious path forward here. And, unlike this summer, he might be ready for it.
I could not find a link to the press conference but I do have a bunch of quotes from the new guys:

“Being here is a dream come true.” - PJ Washington

Daniel Gafford on playing with Dereck Lively II:

“It’s like I’m playing against myself (when he played against Lively at the beginning of season). It’s going to be a one-two punch…I do a lot of screaming, I don’t know about Lively.”

Daniel Gafford said Kyrie Irving was his favorite point guard growing up.

Daniel Gafford mentioned how hard it is going to be for other teams to rebound with him and Dereck Lively II.

PJ Washington says growing up he went to a bunch of games sitting next to the Mavs Maniaacs.

PJ Washington on when he got traded to the Mavs:

He was in a restaurant, ran out, and was so excited. Says he couldn’t sleep and can’t wait to get started.
