Stein saying that "money not the deciding factor" is the closest you are going to get and the Mavs wanting to give a final offer. To me that screams the potential willingness of the Mavs to beat the NYK offer. But that is all we have to go on.
I wouldn’t read anything on anything Jalen says.  He isn’t going to give you anything.

This quote hurts though

Yeah, so for me, that means almost nothing.

But, right or wrong on this is irrelevant. It's a damn near extinction level event, regardless. We're living with the results right now.
(12-03-2022, 11:21 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: [ -> ]And even that makes a little sense. One team needed a (main) PG, the other did not. But DAMN, Woj said it succinctly the other day: A WCF team allowing their 2nd best player to walk for nothing just doesn't really happen.

How about a championship team letting half the team walk for nothing?  A strong argument can be made that Cuban decided at that point he was not going to spend like he did before and used the new agreement/plan powder as excuses.

That being said, I am firmly in the camp that believes Brunson was going to NY and there was likely little we could do about it.  The mistakes were made with the original contract, not offering the extension (which I'm not sure he would have taken) and not trading him to NY at the TDL.

Oh, trust me, we've had that conversation 2,000 times. I see it exactly the way you do, and I'll never, ever forgive Cuban for that.

You know who argued for years and years that Tyson Chandler turning down a 1 year, $20 million offer in favor of a multi-year deal in NY constituted him "choosing" to leave? @"Kammrath", that's who.

Yeah, so if you've been reading today, you should know that I believe that, too.

Doesn't change a thing. Still seems that the Mavs had a lower cap in mind (Van Vleet money, as has been outright stated by pretty much every Mavs reporter) than the NY offer, so at the end of the day going to NY, for Brunson, was the correct decision, regardless of how he might've hoped the situation played out beforehand.

And no matter how long we talk about it, the situation won't change. The team lost its 2nd best player, and it's becoming quite clear that he was an even bigger piece of the winning equation on and off the court than even his biggest fans on this board understood. It's one of the worst mistakes I can remember any team making, regardless of where we we want to pinpoint it along the timeline.

It's all the Mavs' fault. Brunson did the right thing for himself, which is his job.

Dammit I am tired of talking about Steve Nash!

Uh no. Sorry. Confused

Some people might theorize that the 14 second shot clock would speed up the game and favour a younger roster and deeper rotations during the regular season, but I´m not one to subscribe to such rudimentary analytics as the average age of players being the lowest in NBA history over the last three years, despite carrying Udonis Haslem´s corpse around. So yay to more old people. Smile
They are obsessed with anyone who has ever suited up in a Knicks uniform

Just bizarre to me that they're basically running through every bargain basement option we floated here, late summer, but only now after the season starts, and they could've had Dragic back when it really mattered so freaking easily.

There were just four teams ranked in the top 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency entering Tuesday's play: Cleveland, Dallas, New Orleans and Phoenix.

Saw this on TNT and posted the same in the nba thread.  Whoops.

With a bigger sample size the next few weeks should tell us where the team is headed. Right now record and team metrics don´t match. 14-9 expected win/loss. 6th in SRS.
Mavs lead the league in clutch games (16) and have a 8-8 record in those.
They only have one double digit loss (-11 vs Boston). Compared to four double digit wins (+43 vs Grizzlies, +28 vs Denver, +21 vs Knicks, +19 vs Suns).

The Mavs blew a couple of leads. Struggled to turn 4th quarter leads into wins. Western conference is still super close so they have enough time to bounce back. I guess the big takeaway is that the margin of error is razor-thin. If the Mavs continue to drop games against teams like Houston or Orlando they are in trouble.
