Mavs went 10-10 in games Luka Doncic missed last season, including 2-1 in the playoffs.

Dallas has yet to win a game without Luka this season

We should probably extend that Dwight Powell guy.

They absolutely should keep him. At a lower price, I hope, but he's important here.

You can make the argument that DP has been the MVP of this team. Of course Luka has been a legit superstar this year, but DP has brought the heart and fight that kept this team from slipping totally into tank mode. There have been so many games this year where DP's energy has completely changed the course of the game when it looked like the Mavs were just going to fold and quit.
If I'm Powell's agent, my starting point is McGee's contract.  If I'm Nico, I'd let him test free agency.

If I am Powell's agent, I am starting at Powell's current contract.

Not unrealistic.  I'd like to see him hit free agency out of morbid curiosity to see if any other GM values him above veteran minimum status.  Not that it means anything, but I watch a lot of away game broadcasts and most booths are very complimentary of Powell.

My guess is that he gets the MLE on the open market, but I'd be less surprised to learn that he got higher offers than I would be if he had to sign for the minimum. Like you say, I'd find it fascinating to watch.

But the good news is that if there was ever a guy loyal enough and smart enough to know it's in his best interest to return, even at a discount, I bet Powell is that guy. I hope it works out that way. He shouldn't be a starter, but you can do SO MUCH WORSE as a 4th big (3rd center). Hell, you can do worse as a straight backup center, tbh.

Imagine if we never signed McGee and had Powell at that number in that role instead...that's basically the dream.

If they can get Powell on a McGee kind of contract I'd actually be super fine with it.

I wouldn't even hate on the guy anymore.

Due to the luxury tax situation, this probably means jettisoning McGee somehow, which is gonna be tough. But I'm with you.

Some interesting things that former Mav Jerry Stackhouse said. I enjoyed listening to him.

Any good Mavs tidbits?

Yes. He talked about his relationship with Avery, how he went from a good team in Detroit to a better team in Dallas, talked about the 2006 Finals being rigged.

I didn't particularly care for Matt Barnes or Stephen Jackson as wanna be tough guys as players, but they've struck gold with their All The Smoke podcast. I really enjoy the content and variety of guests.
