Modern, two-way players only, please.

I just saw a so called Dinosaur not get into the games against GS. Then when Ja got hurt this dinosaur got minutes and was clearly bothering GS.  We all want the Mavs to take the next step. There are no guarantees to building a championship team. I know this team needs a defensive paint presence. If they can get it in the draft that is great. Else in FA is fine too. But whoever they get is bound to have some warts or else cost an arm and a leg

Terry is the first #26ish guy who has really stood out to me. Imagine Bullock's defense (once he puts on a little weight) with playmaking ability on the other end. That's the kind of 2-way player they should be targeting. Could be a great fit with Luka and Brunson.

I thought that we'd trade this pick too based on, like, every draft ever but I think Cuban being in the tax is going to make players on rookie contracts that much more appealing.  I think it's much more likely we move a couple contracts by attaching lesser/future assets to them so that we can make room for this pick.
The draft is a crapshoot.  Even Pinson, Briwn and Josh Green probably looked great as potential 2 way wings when they got drafted. At the same time treating it as a crapshoot has led the MBT to devalue the draft and that’s why the talent pool is what it is today.

The Mavs desperately need to hit on a few picks.

BTW Dalen Terry does look fantastic. While it is difficult to predict success you can see certain things on the film. When he gets the ball he has the confidence to initiate the offense. We need someone with that comfdence alongside Luka, JB and SD. Currently none of our wings have the ability or confidence.

He and LaRavia just play the game the right way. I fear Dalen is going to be a "riser" on draft night and go in the late teens.

If Jalen Duren drops out of the top 10 I would give up a future first to move up. Would also give up a minor asset to move up for Mark Williams if he is available at 15-20.

There is so much in here I fundamentally disagree with. Wow.

Knowing how the team has operated in the past, and even considering the new front office blood, I just can't imagine they won't try to package this year's pick with something to add an immediate, impact rotation player.

You make a great point about cost, but I just don't see this team being excited about drafting someone at #26 that they don't feel they'll be able to play next season.

They tried to use every pick they had the last couple of years.

I can see them trade it, if they can switch Bertans into a playoff center.
Otherwise I'm not sure what we would need?

I don't know how long you've been following the Mavs, and no judgment about that, regardless of the answer. But, most of us were SHOCKED that they used those picks during the Green, Terry, Bey year. Even added one, tbh. I was pleasantly surprised back then, as it was extremely unexpected (given how that night worked out, I kind of feel NOW like I wish they had traded the pick, lol).

But NOW? Coming off of THIS year, and without even a roster spot available? I'm just saying, my guess is that they will be extremely uninterested in taking on a project at this time.

This is a time when it makes sense to trade the pick, imo. Trading FUTURE picks to "dump" someone they think might actually be able to play meaningful minutes now, if needed, in order to create a roster spot to park a so-so project rookie who they know they don't have time to develop...that seems utterly pointless and counter-productive to me.
Does anyone get the vibes of EJ Liddell being a Grant Williams type player?  I think Liddell would be terrific here in Dallas

The Mavs list of needs? That's easy. The Mavs say it, and most roster-building discussions here center around it. Which is:

*They need another playoff-playable center.
*They need another playoff-playable wing.

Whether they can find them, and how much they might cost, that still remains to be seen. But their quest is quite transparent and obvious.

As far as what they need from a draft pick? They need a player who can develop into a regular. But players picked 26 are not NBA-ready for a year or two or three, so this has to be almost unrelated to current need, and more about finding someone who is most likely to pan out.

Well most mock drafts are trying to reflect some "consensus opinion". He´s just posting his own rankings.

In a way that makes more sense than every ranking having every player within the same 6-8 spots range.

Coming to Kessler I have seen some where they say he has enough athleticism to stay on the switches. Some that say he doesn’t.  What I am saying is that same logic should hold true for some of the centers who are still doing very well in this league.  Who on our team guards those folks if we get into a playoff matchup?  Sure Kessler might get hurt a few times but he is also going to give our guards a 2nd line of defense and also provide size and rebounding underneath.  There is something to be said about blocking so many shots without getting into foul trouble.

Looks like his outside shot also might be getting better. If you tell me he is Bobanesque at the perimeter, sure pass on him. OTOH if his perimeter dense while not great is comparable to most big men currently succeeding in this league, then he should be considered strongly.

To give an idea of what it looks like when he's on the perimeter I'll just post a clip.

Not his biggest strength but I can live with that. Boban would be BBQ chicken if he strayed that far from the rim. The guy looks like a usable option when other teams go big to me

I am assuming that's the plan. If in fact we actually draft a player at #26, that would mean we were not able to use that pick to make a deal for an impact player before draft night. I can't really imagine a Mavs trade without the use of that draft pick. It's better currency than any player we could trade with the exception of Hardaway.

There are other things that could happen on draft night, but I can't think of anything earth-shaking that would be likely when you're picking at #26.

I would love to see Liddell here

I just have the feeling that he's going to be taken in the 18-22 range

That makes two guys that I'm aware of who have been in for workouts/interviews.  Both Brown and Hardy are mocked to be taken well before 26.  Hmmm.  Both are "wings".  Well, put it this way, they are not centers.

Are we preparing in case someone falls?  Or, do we think we have the firepower to move up 6-8 spots?

Not repeating the S.Bey/J.Green situation? Better to be prepared.
