The fire Donnie and Rick threads worked I guess.

KP might not be the next shoe to drop, but I'm pretty sure that shoe will drop this offseason.

Well, I just think that Cuban will fail miserably replacing Donnie and Rick. Cuban´s I´m the smartest guy in the room attitude was only bearable in the last years, because he had strong characters running the show. With Rick and Donnie gone, Cuban will feel like getting more involved in everything, which never has been a good thing.
My point is: If firing Donnie costed us Rick, then Cuban knew that beforehand. And in this case, he strongly should have considered keeping Donnie for the sake of keeping Carlisle. Coaching matters and as I said, I don´t see any coach to replace Rick appropriately right now.

Mavs have over-achieved every damn year since Rick got here. This is such a bummer, almost makes me wanna cry. My guess is, we´ll cycle through numerous coaches in the next years only to learn, how much we lost in RC. Very sad day in Mavs history. Obviously Luka is behind all of this, which makes it even sadder. I can´t think of even one coach, who I´d think would have to potential to bring equal value to Rick. And stop it with Mosley.. my god what has he shown?

I disagree that it’s the beginning of the end, but I agree with your points on Carlisle.

On the whole, we over-achieved every single year with him. And that includes the title team. Carlisle is not without fault, he’s just so damn competent he could have been our coach until he retired. But now for the faults..

There are many faults for Carlisle
- his issue with rookie’s is a constant over his 20 years
- his inflexibility is something he has worked on, but it’s the yin to his yang, he can suppress it, he can improve, but it’s always there.
- he’s an asshole. Face it, psychological mastery can be used for bad or good, but without focused intention it’s dangerous.

To me Carlisle is a Rolls-Royce, sturdy built luxury with all the gadgets inside but slow and steady. Donnie was an old reliable Chevy truck. He knows what he knows and he keeps it simple. Cuban is.. well Cuban is unpredictable, dangerous even, but fast and loud. A Maverick? Lol. Those 3 had success together.

So is it the beginning of the end? Maybe. But there are other options than the two we know. And we’ve got Luka, for now, so he can make anyone he wants here better, as long as they are on the same page. Hopefully that is what comes from this. Luka may not want to be part of the decision making but they are sure going to have him in mind when they make them.

Yes. These moves indicate going all-in on the Luka/KP pairing. Also they indicate that Cuban thinks, KP was under utilized, which OMG is super wrong. I don´t like all of it. Dumping KP might have costed us 2 years, but keeping him will lead to nothing.

I agree with your fears about Cuban.  It's always bad when you think you are the smartest guy in the room when clearly you are not.

I also don't think these departures were one-sided or Cuban saying get out.  It was probably organizational mismanagement by Cuban and he and Donnie and he and Carlisle couldn't see eye to eye.

Donnie's been a bad GM for ten years.  He sucked way before this dram with Bob started.  I don't think working with Cubes is easy and I don't think he shoulders any of the blame, but I don't think he deserves the position either.

Carlisle also has a laundry list of worst.  He's a great coach and deserves the respect he gets.  I still don't want him on a young and developing team.  He just has way too many personality conflicts for my taste, which turns a bad FO into something disastrous when it comes to talent acquisition and roster building.  I'm also not terribly fond of how he handled Luka.  I don't think he ever found the right balance of letting Luka be a creative genius while also teaching him the game.

In a vacuum, I love these moves.  I certainly don't love how we got to this point and I again share your concerns about being able to execute moving forward.  I just thought Luka asking out would be the tipping point, turns out it was because of a stat dork.

I don't know if it's true, but this might be my favorite post of the year. I've been laughing for like 90 seconds straight.
It´s also pretty obvious that it wasn´t planned. Cuban is running wild. Last week the gras wasn´t always greener on the other side. RC and Donnie are scheduled to visit Luka in Slovenia.
Maybe the change was necessary but right now it looks like a panic move. The Cato article and Donnie´s remarks forced him to do something.

He'll probably interview for Donnie's vacancy.
Where’s Bartlett Bear? This is his moment.
Ready for Green, Terry, and Bey to make the rising stars game next year.   Wink
I see this as true beginning of the 2nd and new Luka/KP era. These moves indicate they both stay, and we build the entire franchise around them to suit them and make them fit in a system suiting both.

Why would KP suddenly be able to defend the pick n roll and punish smaller guys on the switch. He´s not 20 anymore, his body has shown all kind of red flags. I hope, I´m wrong, but I´ve lost all hope with him.
