I don't buy that

(06-24-2021, 11:51 AM)SleepingHero Wrote: [ -> ]So when RC tendered his resignation he mentioned all the great players he's worked with and notably left out Luka.

Now he says this and remarks that Luka and Kidd have a lot of similarities? Which is interesting because it's infamously known that RC and Kidd had PLENTY of clashes over his tenure here...

This screams to me veiled shot after veiled shot at Luka. Really leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't get this at all. Too much motive guessing. Maybe I'm just not as cynical as you guys.
Nope, I don't think RC is trying to sabotage the Mavs...in fact, I think he actually is making a genuine recommendation and suggestion and he might not be wrong.

RC and Kidd have a good relationship now. They clashed at times early on but once RC learned to trust him, they started getting along fine. It's been mentioned that they are good friends now.

When Luka has his tendencies to get frustrated, lose his cool, etc. RC sees Kidd as being the type of coach to understand that and be a better mentor for Luka than what RC could have been. He is not wrong about the similarities between Kidd and Luka. Both were basketball savants at a young age and it's sometimes hard for players like that to be patient with teammates and coaches, who do not process the game as fast as them.
RC has compared them since Luka was drafted. You guys are trying really hard to paint him as the bad guy.

We are going to miss RC bigly

I agree. Painting the Rick/Kidd relationship about just the times they butted heads is reductionist and revisionist. Also, Rick/Luka wasn't just about butting heads either. They worked closely for 3 years and accomplished some great things. And assuming that Rick would do something like this is to assume he's not just a grouch, or overbearing, but a an awful human. I don't buy it.
Quote:"I just sent [Doncic] a message thanking him for three amazing years," Carlisle said Thursday. "I learned many things from him, and I told him that I'm glad I'm only going to see him twice a year. I mean it in the most complimentary way, of course.

"I think he's the best young player in the world. I think these three years set up as a major springboard for the next 10 for him. I expect him to be an NBA champion. I expect him to be a multiple MVP winner. I just have an amazing level of respect for his abilities and his grasp of the game. He's truly a once-in-the-generation type player." - Rick Carlisle

Phew...no kidding.

I have been living in constant fear of him landing in New Orleans to replace SVG. All that place needs is a good coach to make the Mavs' path to the future much more turbulent.
What are the odds of a Luka vs Rick finals in the next 5 years?

@"Hogmelon"?

Man dealing with Rick at least 4 times a year would have been tough.
More Rick on Luka from the DMN article:

Quote:“I sat with Luka two years ago, and I told him that I was going to give him the ball, I was going to allow him to create, I was going to allow him to shape his career, to make mistakes, to make great plays, to go through winning, to go through losing, and that I felt that it was a very important part of who he was going to become as a player. He’s taken that responsibility and trust, and he’s turned it into a supermax career. But I believe he also understands that legacies are truly about championships. That was his history in Europe, and I predict that it will be his history in the NBA as well.”

He mentioned Dirk and Kidd. Were they the only great players he worked with?

Reggie Miller, or is this just with Dallas?

In DAL, yes. Other than Luka.

Cato, too. Am I the only one that finds this to be crazy talk?

People jumped too quickly on first tweets that were taken a bit out of context (or lacking full context).

I think that in an effort to fight back against what you consider to be a gross misunderstanding by Carlisle's haters about his motives, you have accidentally grossly misunderstood Cato's motives about this tweet.

I don't think he's saying what some around here are saying. I think he's just making a joke in the millennial style of humor, without a thought in the world about how people might take it. I think he's literally just seeing Jason Kidd take over his timeline and mentions and commenting on the frenzy.

A back handed complement on the guy he apparently clashed with would make him an „awful human“? I think you’re reaching there a bit tbh.

IF it’s meant to be a jab, then I really don’t think it’s a big deal given the circumstances.
