Brooklyn has 21&22. Would love to grab some young depth in a trade down but I feel like if we are top-10 we have a great chance of coming away with a starter in the league for a decade+
I have a very strong feeling that unless we jump into the top 4, we're going to trade the pick. I think all the scenarios being discussed where we trade back, while smart because we're in dire need of every asset we can get, are ultimately not going to happen. We're building around Luka and Kyrie and there is a very urgent need to get clear upgrade that can help right now. So while I was initially really interested in Taylor Hendricks, I've kind of resigned myself to believing we won't end up with him. If we trade the pick though, we have to get a real deal, certified starter. I'm personally hoping we target OG Anunoby, Myles Turner, or Clint Capela.
I tend to agree, sterlingmallory. Not what I would want or would do myself, but I can at least understand going in that direction. If we at least trade for a youngish vet like OG, we can still straddle the two timelines. Even someone like Jerami Grant is going to be 30 next season somehow. Siakam same, not that I think we have the assets to get him. Wouldn’t be thrilled to be handing both Kyrie AND another 30 year old their last big contract max or near max contracts.

They have managed to screw this all up so badly that we almost can’t afford another misfire. Every signing, trade, draft pick has to hit and has to be at the right price point. No more tossing 2nd round picks into every deal. If you don’t see the deal you want walk away. Like, if Brooklyn wants 10 (and your guys are gone) for 21&22 you better extract another asset out of them. Or be prepared to walk away. Cuban has been a terrible negotiator.

The fact that we didn’t at least salvage the Brunson situation with a SnT is unconscionable. A rare combination of denial, hubris and obliviousness all at once. A well run organization would’ve traded the 25th pick to NYK for 14 and taken Duren and never signed McGee because we got Duren and Noel in the deal. And we would’ve had Burks all season. It would’ve just been eating Kenna’s contract at that point. I’m pretty sure NYK gave Detroit some second round picks on top of it all.
so, I read each team will have 3 two way guys next year.  So I wonder if it will be more difficult to buy/trade for second round picks?   Maybe not, but just curious.   If the Mavs can't get a pick in the second, they better be ultra aggressive right after the draft.  Two teams have lost their picks, so the Mavs need to move fast.

To be honest, I would be all over Kennedy Chandler right now.    I would also look at Trevor Keels if he became available.   I would bring 1-2 guys like that with Lawson and an undrafted guy.    I would say one of them is getting the last roster spot and the rest will be two way guys.    That carrot of getting a roster spot should give you the ability to go after guys and be attractive to FA or UDFA types.
Trying not to look into the draft much, but I have been checking out Coach Spins videos when they come out.

This Jarace Walker video is pretty impressive.

Honestly he´s  not bad, but I think the upside is limited. I think he moves his feet somewhat funny. and that makes me doubt whether he can really defend on the perimeter. Then despite his impressive wingspan he´s only 6´8, which is really short for a center. I´m not sure how effective he´ll be in the NBA. I´d pick Hendricks, Whitmore and Dick over him. Whitmore I´m not 100% sure about, but I feel like Walker has the least upside of all these guys.

If a team is really in love with him, I´d try to extract an extra asset, if we land at #4. That would probably be my play. Pretend to pick him and hope Orlando, Washington, Utah or Indiana bite on a trade down. I´m really least sure what to do at #4 and I think that´s probably where most teams are.
Just to be clear, this is an all or nothing draft? Either we get inside the top 10 (currently on the bubble) and have multiple options or we are (yet again) observers to NYKs getting more talent. If even one of CHI, NOP, ORL or TOR gets a top 4 pick, and DAL doesn't, then we can fold the tents, call it a night and hope for manna from heaven in the FA market?

Those four have a combined 5% chance vs DAL 3% chance. A single number bet in roulette has 2.63% chance, so I'm not holding my breath here.

I agree but he is definitely a 4 in today's NBA.  I think his ceiling is really high, like legit 2 way all star level high.

Surprised you don't like him because he feels a little like Hendricks with a worse shot but better overall offensive game, I would be all over him at 4 (or potentially 3 over Brandon Miller honestly).
i dont mind any player in this draft. hopefully we can finally say good bye to powell as our starter
i can't handle this guy as a player (not as a human)
Is swapping picks with the Hawks enough to get Capela?

In theory I think yes, if a decent player is going their way. Assuming they think Okongwu can take the starter role. Not sure if they have any need for THJ and certainly not Bertans. Something like Bullock+McGee+pick swap might be interesting.

*Drum roll please*

JK... I haven't done any draft research this year... yet.

I’ve got a target fellas.

In this universe, Atlanta has someone they really want at 10 and they make the decision to promote Okongwu and move Capela. We get 15.

I don’t do this trade of one of Walker, Whitmore, Hendricks is on the board.

Maybe I’ll tell you guys the target soon… hehe

Sounds like you haven't watched the Cason Wallace tape yet.

I like him, but I value my player around the same level as him and you would also be getting Capela.

Also, these are the guys I currently expect to be gone by 10 not necessarily in order: Wemby, Scoot, Miller, both Thompsons, Walker, Whitmore, Hendricks, Wallace.

I haven't look at the prospects yet, but I can already tell you I will be rooting for Whitmore as one of the guys who slips.    I saw one game with Villanova this year and didn't think he looked great.  But it was a strange season for Villanova.   He reminds me a little of Miles Bridges.    Built like a truck but is a great athlete.   Will probably need some time, but he has a chance to be really good.

I agree with you 100%. If he is the one who makes it to 10 he must be picked.
Not to overhype Whitmore but his combination of build, strength, burst, handles and stroke actually reminded me of Kawhi. Not saying he will ever be anything close to that great. He didn’t shoot a great percentage but I like his form. And really impressive handles for a guy his size. NBA body already and he’s young.

As someone said, weird year for Nova, transitioning from Jay Wright and Cam started the year hurt. I doubt there is any way he lasts to 10, I think he’s more likely to go 4th or 5th after Thompson. But if he’s somehow there at 10 we should run to the podium.
One other positive note on Cam Whitmore is something I noticed and noted in my post on Cason Wallace as well. They both play with economy of motion: in their shooting form they are both compact and usually get squared up even off the bounce, in part I think due to strength and but also an innate understanding of leverage. And this seems to carry over to defense as well. Need to watch more defensive reps to get a better feel.

Side note: Jay Wright is a great coach and would be fabulous here if he wanted to coach an NBA team and Cuban had the stones to move on from his Kidd mistake. I’m also still bullish on Kenny Atkinson. Both are adaptable, player friendly basketball minds that are great at player development and X’s and O’s.
I admit I was only watching Wembys highlights and it looked like he is a lights out shooter. However, he shot less than 30 % from three. I was really surprised, I though he is more like 40 % shooter
