A player should realize if you're on a one year deal and aren't in the teams long term plans you are prime for being traded up until the trade deadline.  (He was making almost $16 million)

I can live with it if it is giving up a pick for at least the chance for a long term solution even if it does not work out. For eg Fournier.  He might leave or might resign. But at least they target him as a long term piece. Here we are giving up a chip for a short term measure that is not really taking us to the next level.

I hear what you are saying, Hakeem. I just wonder if there was anything this chip could have used for in terms of a long-term measure that would have taken us to the next level. They tried to use it (as far as we know) on Evan Fournier/John Collins. It seems like this was really about the best thing they could have turned this particular asset into, unless you think actually making a pick in the 40's or 50's this year would have been better.

It seems like a lot of frustration over past decisions in other matters is coloring this particular transaction, but it seems to me that in this specific case, the chances that pick was going to turn into something better than Reddick seem pretty tiny. Maybe you disagree, and if so, I respect that.
KL. No. Not a problem with Reddick the player even with his age and flaws. He brings an element that we can always use. This might just be because of baggage from the past as others have said. I just wonder if they really fought to keep that pick. The importance of picks, even 2nd round picks, is my only disagreement with those who feel that those picks are irrelevant.

I don't like the Olive Garden. They treat me like family.
Airballing wide open corner 3's = traded

They must have forgotten to mention that rule to JJ when he arrived in Dallas.

DFS going to get that Acme sponsorship endorsement.

But only when you are there.

It would really suck to be in a position where you could never really put down roots or know where you stand, even if you are made extremely wealthy to put up with that inconvenience.

I’m not ever going to fault the team for doing what they think is best, but I’ll always try to acknowledge that there’s another side so I empathize with the players. Just think back to the last time Devin Harris was trades and how much that tore him up.

Main thing I sympathize with is these guys want to win.  They've been chasing a dream of  playing in the biggest game on the biggest stage all their lives.   This is what you work on since  you were a little kid.  James Johnson is 34 years old and has played almost his entire career on really bad teams.    He's like in his 11th season and has been in a grand total of 24 playoff games.    The clock is ticking for him.   Then they bust their ass contributing to a team they think can go into the playoffs and maybe make some noise , Mavs are starting to round into shape, and then just a few months before the playoffs you get traded to a team that is 12th in your conference.    I don't blame Danny Green or any of these guys for jumping on a loaded team as a mercenary to chase a ring.  Whatever way you can get it.

Mansion.  @mavsluvr ruined his shot on a recent broadcast.

I argued with a mob yesterday just because I didn't think the recent Delon trade was a blemish representitive of systemic Mavs failure. :-D

If I had any hope that James could break into the rotation, it wouldn't have been based on seeing him play. I didn't know who he was until we traded for him. But he sure wasn't very good here. So you were absolutely right about him!

This place would suck if everyone agreed on everything...doing this is more fun...

You've made the "Told you so" list, mister.
Does anyone have any info on the Stein comment that Mavs made the Redick move without diving into his medicals and he will be out longer than they hoped?   I just saw something on Reddit.    I will await to see if this is true and if he is indeed out longer.  If true, this is a Fireable offense.  Even with such a small move.  The Mavs seem to always have issue with the details.  It is a recurring theme.   I hope it is something very minor or not true.  But it doesn't look good.    If you can't get the small things right.....

I did read that, I thought, on Twitter, but can't really find it anywhere.

I did hear Donnie say that Reddick didn't want to be traded, but wanted a buyout so that he could play where he wanted, which would seem to tell you that he actually can play, if he thought he could sign with a contender (Brooklyn, for example, where the rumor was he wanted to go).

I also heard Donnie say that Dirk and Luka had contacted him and that Luka was one of Reddick's favorite players, and that Reddick was excited....about the rehab process.

I legitimately am wondering if Reddick is the type of guy who would hold a franchise hostage (ala the way Richard Jefferson and Derek Fisher have done us) to try to get a buyout to sign with who he wanted in the beginning....I hope they had some assurance on that, as much as the injury.

This would be pretty bad. But the sunshine pumpers and contrarians would just say "Who cares, he sucks anyway and the second wasn't gonna amount to anything, good riddance".

If Redick were to do that, then he should be barred from being able to sign anywhere else for the rest of the season. The NBA needs to crack down on players being able to hold franchises hostage.

I'll wait and see what happens. I don't think Redick would purposefully sitout since the Mavs are a playoff team and could use his services, but you never know.
