We're saving money to get a serviceable big off the street or waiver...

According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Thunder are likely to trade Justin Patton sometime in the coming week.
Quote:With the Thunder a mere $750,250 into the tax and Patton’s deal non-guaranteed, the stars are not aligned in the young center’s favor. By emulating the Houston move enumerated above and paying another team to take Patton and waive him, the Thunder could promote 2-way player Luguentz Dort to get the roster back to 14 and then sign another 2-way, and stay under the tax. As with Gary Clark above, Patton could only be acquired by one of the nine teams with workable trade exceptions, or by the Hawks via cap room.

Hmm... unless I'm missing something the Spotrac data seems contradictory.  The contract notes say $700k is guaranteed, but the top-line text says the full $1.6mm is guaranteed.  So it could go either way.

I think he got full guarantee a week or so ago.
Shams via Athletic:

Rival teams say that the Mavericks are aiming to clear a roster spot for flexibility, [CHECK]
first via trade. [CHECK]
Dallas has opened up talks in the market place to acquire a wing player and [TBD]
a center, the latter of which could come in the free-agent space. [LIKELY CHECK, ACCORDING TO TOWNSEND]

Looks like Shams will be three for four, so far ...
Funny...some have Patton as a cheap young Powell replacement and some have us dumping him.

Nothing says we can't dump him if/when the other shoe falls.  As Tyler notes, Roby is guaranteed in 20/21 and Patton is not.  I loved Patton coming out of college, so I don't mind the flier if he's designed to be kept.  I also don't mind cutting him if it is part of a bigger plan.
One step closer to fulfilling the Jermaine O'Neal to the Mavericks prophecy.
I actually don't understand this. Second year in a row (Spalding last year) they gave a long term contract to a second rounder just to cut/trade him a few months later. Why didn't they trade Bro?

I hope they will just give out a 10 day contract to someone.

That is probably right.  Hollinger quote was from 1/2/20

Yeah this is from basketball reference

"2019-20 partially guaranteed for $700K, fully guaranteed after Friday, January 10, 2020"

If they pan out you can have 4 years of cheap contract...

Personally I would prefer to give a prove yourself chance to a youngster than bringing him someone like Noah.

And a couple of months is enough to pass the judgement? What changed in this 6 months from "giving him a 4 year contract" to worthless? On the other hand you have Bro expiring who you could just as easily cut without going into the troubles of executing a trade
