Despite their constant complaining about pretty much everything, most Americans have very little real hardship in their lives. This has led to the vast majority of them being noticeably stupid.
I don't know if we start Boban again next game.  Maybe we do a zig to answer the expected zag from the Clipps.  I think having Maxi off the bench is here to stay though.

One sneaky benefit of having Boban start the game is I think it puts Luka in a pass first mindset.  I know he had 19 points in the first quarter, but I think he is always looking to get Boban the ball.

Maybe that is a bad take with all the shots he took but I like the pass first version of Luka to start the games.   Maybe last night is a bad example to give.
Didn't the Mavs get Powell in Rondo deal?  I can't quite frame why that seems so awesome right now, but my "white spot" is tingling telling me it is.

Make no mistake Dwight is still trash. That being said he did have a good game and there are currently 2 other players above him on my shit list.

In Jerry Jones voice...

Do you like being up 3 games to 2? Do you like being up 3 games to 2? I hope you do.
Biggest win for this franchise in a decade, right?

Crazy that we can play well while also highlighting how much KP does work here.  I support the idea of starting Boban because we needed to take advantage of the smaller lineup but it's incredibly frustrating that the 7'3" guy who gets paid 30+ mil isn't doing that for us.  And on top of that because of his ego we had to start him anyway and go super jumbo and run that awkward matchup zone to just junk up the game early (which worked in stretches).  Boban/Maxi would actually make much more sense to throw out there to start to be honest.
See ya in game 7. Feels weird that the win just feels like the Mavs ended up forcing a game 7 instead of having to actually win at home in game 6. But the Clippers are confident in Dallas and the awkward AAC crowd isn't going to help either.

Foturnately game 6 won't be decided based on your feelings

I don't see that Luka Doncic equal Trae Young on this list.  BTW, Trae shooting 34% from three and can't shoot Luka plugging away at 43% in the playoffs.
  • Only Michael Jordan has a higher playoff PPG (33.4) in NBA history than Luka Doncic (32.8) [min 10 GP]

  • Luka Doncic joins MJ and Wilt Chamberlain with the t-most GP (4) of 40+ PTS through 1st 11 career playoff GP ever

  • 1st player with 275+ PTS/75+ REB/75+ AST through his 1st 9 career playoff GP in NBA history

  • Most GP (5) leading his team outright in PTS/REB/AST through a player’s 1st 8 career playoff GP in NBA history

Great to see you posting my dude.

Dude! Great to be back. I've been busy working but these playoffs are rolling. Luka is beasting. Going to try to stick around a little more.
What happened to the Luke (or Brunson) + Powell pick-and-roll? Powell looked good (eye test; dunno about stats) in the last month or two of the season.
So I expected Rick to trot that out at some point during game 3 when the big lead dissipated and shots weren't falling as easily.
Definitely thought I'd see it in game 4.

It's been a pretty effective approach - there were quite a few 'oops over the season, especially as it progressed and Powell got a little more spring in his step.
When Powell wasn't jamming home, it often led to a bevy of those Luka "bunny" twos.

Anyway, Im sure there's some kind of matchup reason. Or maybe it's been happening and I'm just not paying attention.
But it's strange to me, considering how well it worked and the fact that the Clips have tried a few diff lineups.

You'd think at least one of them would allow for Luka and Powell to try it.

Btw, If the Mavs win tonight, I think they have a legit chance at getting to the WCF.

Utah is very, very good, of course. Pretty sure they're the better team.

But Luka is probably the best player in that series, and with so much 3pt shooting between the two teams, anything could happen.

I don't think they beat Phoenix, but getting to WCF would be a huge statement.
@"JREwing", welcome!

They did use the Luka/DP pnr in the big 3rd quarter run in game 5. I'm with you in wanting to see more of it tonight.
Tim Cato has an article in the Athletic on the strategic wrinkles that fueled Dallas' win in Game 5, and in the three wins.

1.  The third quarter Mavs run in Game 5, most of which was attributable to Zubac being on the court. Cato's conclusion is that Zubac probably should not play another minute in this series, at least while Bobi is not on the court. Powell was particularly effective in this stretch.

2. Luka's magical passing in Game 5 was crucial. Complete with illustrations.

3. Shotmaking has determined most of the series. He has a graph that shows the teams'
shotmaking, compared to expected performance determined by where and when the shot was attempted. It won't surprise anyone to know that it shows the Mavs' putting on a shotmaking clinic in Game 2 and way underperforming in Game 4.

Here is his closing paragraph.

I would’ve predicted that Game 2 would be high on this list [of over performance]. That’s the game when Luka Doncic, almost unnecessarily, took a one-footed fallaway 3-pointer with a defender blanketing him and made it anyway. It was an absurd shooting display from the Mavericks in every regard. But I wouldn’t have thought Game 4 was as bad as the numbers show. I think it offers some comfort about the blowout. Doncic wasn’t at his best due to the nerve pain in his neck, and we know the rest of the team regressed as well. But to regress that significantly — to the point where the data shows it was a statistical anomaly, essentially — pushes back on the idea the Clippers simply took control of the series in that game and proved they were the more talented team. No. The Mavericks lost soundly and deservedly, but they’ve been capable of beating L.A. all series. Now, up 3-2 and just one win away from advancing to the second round, that key factor still rings true.
