This year has proved to have a litany of problems and misfortunes for our beloved Mavs. Now we do seem to be witnessing what we used to call an organic tank. We could sure use a top 10 pick.

What remains to be seen is when our guys get back and how quickly they build a new act together if and when everyone returns.

Assuming we pay and keep Kyrie it should become way easier to get guys to come join them here. The rest of this season determines who plays well with the dynamic duo so we keep them.

Winning some playin games and playing some first round games would also help us decide who are keepers are. I have been thinking about those benefits too. I will keep watching how this develops. I expect to keep both superstars. Therefore I feel some positive surprises will go our way by next year.

If that's the case then I might need to give him a little bit of credit for being the fall man...

AH who am I kidding? We all know Kidd can't plan a tank that well.

I have faith that Kidd can guide them to a nice, soft landing in the lottery.

The Thunder and Lakers both win to tie the Mavs at 34-35 in 8th. Hopefully the Blazers can pull off a win against NY. Good start so far with a double digit lead in the 1st.
Wizards and Raptors won too, so I guess this is good.

This has been a perfect night so far. Only one game ahead of 10th and two games ahead of 8th. If the Blazers win, it´s two games to 7th, but looks like the Knicks fight hard to protect their pick. Came back against the Lakers and now lead here, too. Don´t think we can catch the Blazers or Pacers, but everybody else is in play.
Sorry Dr. Mav, but this is a must LOSE game!
They definitely didn’t play like they’re intentionally tanking.  So maybe what we’ve seen as tanking is just bad play.
So now we have 3 more wins than Washington, who sit in 9th place - we‘d need that place to have a good chance to keep our pick.

I don‘t see it that we manage to lose out - if Kidd is trying to he‘d play Wood too much because he hates him and Wood will win us a couple of games because Kidd is wrong about him. Strangest season in a long time.
Possible they end up in 4th place in the West?

They could.. if they figure out how to win 4th quarters. It seems like every game now will be close.
There are now 5 teams with 36 losses and 5 teams with 37 losses. Mavs are 36-36 and 1.5 games out of a 3-way tie for the 9th pick. Luka is hurt/out of shape and Kyrie is in a boot. There is still time to do the right thing! It will only hurt for a minute...

This is quite literally the best year for a semi tank. The Mavs could possibly jump all the way down to 8th if they tank it right.

If that American Salah Mejri from LA hadn´t f***** us over we´d already be in a tie for 10th, but the Mavs never get it right.
It's a tough call.

Tanking is getting more and more risky. Unless they get far enough down, all the tanking might accomplish is to give a better pick to NY. If they tank, there are some likely scenarios where they don't even make the play-in, or make the play-in and then are one-and-done, and still get no pick at all this summer.

No way will the Mavs overtake HOU, SA, or POR in a race to the bottom of the West. And the East is on track to end up with at least 5 of the top-10 picks in the draft (and Mavs have to land top 10 to get a pick).

The really frustrating thing is that the West is mostly ripe for the taking this year for a team that's any good. But with the loss of all defense and all rebounding, and the loss of Brunson too, this year's edition of Cuban's Craftsmanship is incredibly mediocre. Even against the crap competition, they still aren't reliable to win games they can and should win.

Think about how many games the team just gave away this year. Lakers 27 point blown lead. First game of the season blowing a 20+ point lead against the Suns. Blowing a 14 point lead with 1 minute left against the Thunder.  Blowing a 13 point lead against the Grizz. No inbound plays ran that lead to losses against the Bucks, Wolves, Wizards, and a couple others I'm too depressed to look up. Remember when we shot 31/102 against the Rockets and lost to them as well?

It's sad. The Mavs could be sitting firmly in 2nd or 3rd place had they played to expectations. I will say though this team has been injury bitten since the beginning. DFS was out a lot of time. Then Maxi and Green. Luka was hobbled in January and again now. Kyrie is hurt. THJ has been in and out. Wood had a broken finger that cost him time.

Hard to win games with everyone getting injured. Especially when the injuries are staggered throughout the season.
With our ping pong ball luck, we'd hand the Knicks the 11th pick.
Shouldn't we be rooting for the pick to convey? The Mavs would be in this same spot next year, no?

Not if we trade it to NYK for multiple picks including ours back and an upgrade. Hartenstein and 3 picks for McGee and our 23 top 10.

Yeah but there also all the stupid games you won, that you don´t remember. The historic Luka game against the Knicks, the AD meltdown last week. I´m sure there are as many "dumb" wins as there are losses.
