To me the most important thing is that Kidd's job doesn't survive this offseason. It already looked like he was losing the team before we even made the Kyrie trade. And we'll need to choose that next coach carefully.

If you look at his head coaching career he's basically Scott Skiles except the players tune him out even faster after the initial success.
I truly expected this last season as we went from Carlisle to Kidd. I knew the X-O's would suffer but I was pleasantly wrong in that the team did seem to respond despite a couple of weak points. Rick is GREAT coming out of Timeouts and Sideline or Baseline sets.
So I was surprised at the success from last year and thought that Kidd would develop into the type of coach others would envy...
I am thoroughly depressed at the regression that has taken place this year. Luka stunted this year and while the majority of this might not fall to the coach, it is a significant failure from that perspective and cannot be repeated. The other factor is that Brunson MUST have been more important to Luka than Luka was to Brunson

So in RECAP:
Didn't like the hire - was wrong
Liked the outlook of the future - was wrong
Calling for change -

Cant call a tank...need to be able to steal as much as you can from fans.   "Its their fault theyre stupid"...coward shit.

Kidd's job is safe.   They get to claim they werent trying all year and his bad coaching was to help the tank.
Tonight is another huge game for us… We have to lose this one to the Pacers. I hope Carlisle’s ego forces him to beat us and won‘t allow him to „overtank“ us.

Luka technical rescinded, so he can play against the tankiest opponent left. The NBA truly hates Cuban. Gives him Luka, so the 2nd hardest to lose game in our tank, becomes a virtually guaranteed win to turn our pick into the 11th pick for the Knicks. Not even bothering to watch the end of our season tonight.
Why is this a virtual win when we just lost 2 games to a worse team without their best player?

I was thinking the same at first. But I‘m not sure Luka‘s playing winning basketball right now being less than a hundred per cent and emotionally disengaged. Kyrie and him hasn’t been a winning formula, let‘s hope that stays true today and Carlisle is taking the win because he wants to beat Kidd more than tanking.

1. Record since Jan. 16st, Hornets: 14-17, Pacers: 10-20

2. Hornets had literally nothing to play for. They can play to win, cause they are locked into the 4th seed.

3. Pacers play for ping-pong balls. They have the biggest incentive to tank from all the teams left that the Mavs play.

3a.) 5th to 8th odds are within half a game. 5th seed means 42% top 4 pick, 6th seed means 37% top 4 pick, 7th/8th means 29% each for top 4 pick.

3b.) So for the Pacers it really really matters whether they win or lose, and they are clearly trying to lose.

3c.) So if you are not equally committed to tanking a game, against a team that wants to lose, you are likely going to win, regardless of all your problems. Effort matters that much.

4. If the Hornets actually played to lose, we´d have won AT LEAST the 2nd game, when we took the lead.

4a.) The Pacers don´t play to win. I don´t even think Carlisle cares that much about the Mavs, but won´t mind that a Pacers loss also basically ends our season and hurts the Mavs/Luka even more.
Mavs going to win by 1 point against tanking Pacers.

I think fans get a little lost in the the "trying to tank" mentality.  Consider the movie "Major League".

A GM responsible for building a roster may hope the team loses to improve draft slots.

An organization may decide the sit star players generously to protect them from meaningless games.

The coach and the players on the court, however, are by nature competitors.  I won't believe for a second anyone will tell Luka not to try too hard or try not to accidentally beat the Pacers.  The same truths apply to Indianapolis.

Whoever steps on the court will be trying to win, perhaps with just a bit less fervor and motivation than a team more embroiled in a playoff race.

That said, may the best team lose.

And here is how a tanking organizations helps their team help themselves into the tank.
This is why we can't have nice things.

This was always nailed on to happen. 11th to 13th pick, maybe first round play-in loss, maybe miss it completely.
Good thing is that almost all of our competitors won as well, so we didn’t enhance our play-in chances - Clippers, Pelicans, Wolves. Utah will play the Spurs next, so they should win one as well - best case scenario would probably be a tie with Utah right now. We play the Bulls, so we should have a chance to fall behind them in the end to at least secure the 10th spot in the lottery and have a decent chance to keep our pick.

We play at the Sixers and at Miami next, if we lose those two I hope even Kidd and Cuban realize we won‘t win anything this year except for maybe a very talented rookie.

Today was in between - important that the Hawks and Raptors won to stay in front of us, the Thunder losing to the Hornets hurts, because they couldn’t separate from us.

Golden State winning against the Pelicans is basically a wash for our chances in the lottery, even if I‘d say that the last safe playoff spot is completely out of reach for us now, it’s play-in or hopefully nothing.
Mavs are obviously not tanking. We can discuss wheather that is smart or not, but they are not tanking. Charlotte did them a favour beating OKC. So now Mavs again control a lot regarding the play-in. If they manage to win most of the games left. I don't believe they will, but this is what they are hoping.
I don't see the Mavs making the play in even trying to. They will finish 11th regardless of if they try or not. They just aren't very good.
Team Tank Fans - CHI just lost to the Fakers.
If the Mavs aren´t picking up any unscheduled wins against Miami, Atlanta and Sacramento we will get an epic tank showdown next weekend. Game 81 against the Bulls. Game 82 against the Spurs.
Dallas has to catch one of Utah/Chicago. Looking at the remaining schedules, Chicago seems a lot more likely.

@ Miami
@ Atlanta
Sacramento
Chicago
San Antonio

Chicago:
@ Charlotte
Memphis
Atlanta
@ Milwaukee
@ Dallas
Detroit

Utah:
