I get that part of the motivation here would be contingent on CHA wanting to clear money (Powell expires and Bertans' money becomes less and less guaranteed soon) and I'm not going to react with the "no chance" that's probably coming from others, but I think the inclusion of the first round pick is fairly unlikely.

Pick or no pick, I'd obviously do this in a second.

I was like, "Why the hell would Charlotte do that?" Then I remembered who runs their team. One of maybe two or three GMs worse than our FO.

Hayward has only two years left on his deal. Bertans three. I like the idea but I don´t think they would add a first if they take back just as much bad salary (stretched over two seasons) and give up the best player in the deal.

Agree with the point about the pick, but if I'm not remembering wrong, a significant portion of the remaining Bertans money is voidable, no?

2024-25 $5 million guaranteed, fully guaranteed if plays 75% of reg. games in 2023-24

according to Spotrac

If they aren´t willing to play him that´s basically a stretch/waive. A lot of money for no contribution.

Still, IF the point is to remove money, I think it's a significant step in the right direction for them. I definitely agree it's not a step worth paying a 1st to take.

If that is the goal some kind of buyout agreement with Hayward is probably a better option (not this season, in 2023).

Not trying to say I find a deal like this likely, but I think I could potentially disagree with the specific point above, depending on some of the other motivating factors that might/might not be involved.

Just talking about the money saving aspect. Of course other factors could play a role as well. Maybe they want to create capspace and send out even more salary (Rozier) in another deal.

Wouldja do Timmy + Powell for Hayward, straight up?

You didn't ask me, but IF I had reliable info that Hayward would be reasonably healthy this year I'd do it in a second, and I'm probably Hardaway's last fan on this board.

What Hayward offers, when healthy, is one of the more slept on things in the sport. I've always thought so.
So the “late August” thing has been mentioned quite a few times around here. When it was first said, there was lots of speculation about Wood being available around that time. That would be 1 reason there is a holdup. There was no other speculation beyond that though.

What if the holdup is from the other team waiting for a player to be available then? There’s got to be more players that fit that criteria right? Does anyone know who those players might be? Seeing those names might help some dot connections. That type of deal could still be “muddied” from the KD sweepstakes too.
THJ+Powell+Bertans for Hayward+Rozier works, if you want to go that direction.

Without thinking twice. Hayward is the best player. He cannot stay healthy but It´s not like Powell and THJ come without injury risks. Also prefer the positional fit. A little bit bigger than THJ or Bullock.

I'd do that, too, without hesitation. Again, IF I believed Hayward was coming in healthy (to start with, at least).

I actually think that in the unlikely event that this trade happened AND Hayward was healthy, this might represent improvement over keeping Brunson. Key word being "might."

Sold, but I kind of doubt you’d get Washington.

You don’t think they would give up the 3 best players in the deal without any extra compensation?

I think Hardaway ranks somewhere in the top 3, but your point is a fairly good one.
Hey, I'm in Ainge mode. And if you're going to ask me to get you off of Rozier's million-year deal and Hayward's broken down body, while also eating $40M in salary for you, I need a little more. I may even need you to add another pick or three!
