Just as well. Would hate for him to tear his achiles while making a sandwich.

Damn. He’s less durable than Kevin Nash.

I think there is no chance that Sunday was the moment Cuban knew he would be needing a new GM. None. I wouldn't be shocked if Cuban has known for months he would be getting a new GM. I wouldn't be shocked if Forde has been looking for a new GM for Cuban behind the scenes for months.

Like one poster rightly observed: Remember the trade fiasco with MIA? Cuban HAS to have known there were issues for months and months.

If Ujiri is the guy, then it is possible he AND Cuban have known that for months. Ujiri might have been biding his time waiting for the Mavs season to be over.

Ujiri back in May:

Quote: Wrote:"Everybody says, 'Blank check, blank check,' but I'm not as much focused on a blank check," Ujiri said during a news conference when asked what he will think about in making his decision. "A lot of the things that we've done here, we have to move forward as a franchise to compete with the best in the NBA. This is all about winning a championship again.

"Let me tell you something, guys: Everybody has forgotten what happened two years ago. OK, yes, we won. But nobody cares anymore, OK? We want to win another one. That's what you want to do. Yeah, you want to prepare yourself to win another one. Not play in the play-in game, not play in the playoffs, you want to win a championship. Everybody's like, 'Why don't you get into the play-in?' Play-in for what? We want to win a championship here, and we have to put ourselves in position.

"I want to know, 'So what's the next lift? What's the next five years? What's the next 10 years? What are we doing to put ourselves in the conversation with all the great teams and all the winners?' That's what we want to do, and that's the conversation that I'm going to have with [ownership]. And, yes, I'm going to have asks, and I'm going to have a lot of things that I think we need to put forward here to address these things, and I think ownership is open to hear this."

Astute post. I’m with you. Separate from today, the only thing that makes sense about Ujiri’s job status is if he intends to join a team that was still in the playoffs until recently. Or still in the playoffs currently. Doesn’t mean it’s the Mavs. But I like our odds.
Guess that means Finley wasn't one of the sources...unless he's "playing the game" and doing it well

Way to behave like a professional and represent for Dallas and Mavericks.  Dodgy

IF someone like Finley is the new "president of basketball operations" AND Voulgaris stays on....

...THEN I would bet Voulgaris will be the real "GM."

I am open to that because I could see someone like Voulgaris being INCREDIBLY effective if given full reins and decision making is streamlined, but I definitely PREFER an outside voice being given full authority at this point.

If Vulgurass was the source of the Green-over-Saddiq pick like we've heard, then he doesn't know a basketball from his butt or a hole in the ground, and his being named GM is cause for Mavs fan seppuku.

You win or you die.

No offense to Fin, but he's apart of the old brass line of thinking. Here's a chance to finally get an outside guy in with a new mindset.

Watching Atlanta go up 3-2 basically because they added all the players around Trae that the Mavs should have signed or traded for last year (yeah, yeah - if they could), is really hard...it was a no brainer to try for a couple of those I think.

Then for Masai Urji to be coming off his contract in a franchise that is on the way down...for Danny Ainge, who has a longstanding relationship with Carlisle, to be unemployed...either one of those guys makes a WHOLE lot of sense here....too...much...sense.  I mean, even Jerry West...

It feels like we just didn't want to go the extra mile to get Gallo, Bogdan and Lou Williams or Capela for that matter...then to not pick up or at least give SERIOUS consideration to those proven GMs just sitting there with no job... I mean, man, come on.  The Mavs may do that, but if it takes a month and a half to get a GM in place, and we are starting to figure out what to do in late July...oh my word, I'll have to really talk myself off that ledge of frustration.

But seriously...if Luka doesn't like this guy?  Do you really want to start this off with 2 strikes against you?

You hide him behind the likable persona of Finley. Don't let Voulgaris see the light of day as far as the players. Just let him be the silent observer. Keep him in check, but let him really guide the team building process. Again this is IF you believe in him. I am not saying I do, but the man could be a genius for all I know.

Two things:

1) It is WAY too early to judge draft picks, especially when Bey is 2+ years older than Green (I think).

2) When you let an analytics guy run things you are STILL going to have misses. The hit rate will increase by maybe 5%, which will seem small, but in the long run will make a HUGE difference with winning.

This feels like an assumption.

Are you saying "analytics guy" = a 5% increase of hits in the draft (maybe)?

So in other words, you think that whoever the BEST drafter in the league is, they must be an analytics guy? Just trying to understand you.

Annnnnhhhhhh.... naw.  I'm not insulting Luka's intelligence by going the "there's nothing to see here" route.  I don't know Luka personally, but I would not like it.  You fire the guy I like and you keep the guy I don't, and try to pretend he isn't there.

Voulgaris simply cannot be the only analytics guy that can do what we ask him to do.  Luka IS the only guy that can do what Luka does.  That's a risk I wouldn't take, but then again, neither of us are close enough to the situation to know for sure.  Hope they choose wisely.
