It's great that he knows we need that. The question for him is who is that and is HE capable of getting that?

80-90+ percentile in PnR ballhandling, postups and iso the last two years
PER of 21-22 the last two years
Went to the FT line 7 (!!!) times per game this season
TS% 58-60 the last two seasons
BUT also some really discouraging on/off numbers the last three years (I didn’t look further) per bball ref. Basically had negative impact all the time.
I really don’t know. He only costs caproom though so I guess you have to think about him.

Guys, be careful what you wish for. Guys on a fresh max extension just kicking in have not often (if at all?) demanded to be traded.

Dame Lillard
This is the caliber of players the Mavs should be focused on, and landing. Treating that as some sort of impossible expectation is an admission of not being good enough to get the job done.

I am not saying he is my first choice. But he totally fits the description and is realistically available.

Yeah really tough not targeting him given the circumstances.
I have no clue what is going to happen. I could see them trade guys like Maxi in an attempt to get more caproom while maybe picking up an asset in the process.
Dumping Powell could also be impactful. Brunson‘s future is up in the air.
As always I’d REALLY love to see us get into the draft. A Kuzma/Josh Hart type of addition always helps lol.
I think they need to obtain as many Seth Curry-like guys on value deals as they can this summer - as well as trading for a '23 FRP - in order to bolster the rather bare asset chest this summer. No "big fish" (unless Collins ends up for some crazy reason wanting to leave Atlanta and they are with similar psychosis willing to let him go, or perhaps Ball if we can get him at a tradable cost), just *all* of the good players we can get at deals a tad over the full MLE (to price out the teams that don't have cap room). If THJ prices himself out of tradability, either let him walk (more $$$ for those yummy value FA's), or sign-and-trade him for other players on value deals. Trade KP for air if you can, or other guys on value contracts.
That probably ends up giving us a team no better than last year's in the short term, and Kidd's X-and-O issues will probably put us halfway through the season with a team on track to win 40-45 games. Don't panic! The move for Robin is coming at the TDL, and if Lavine wants to come in '22, we have many good assets available for S-n-T, or, worse case scenario, will have lots of guys who can be traded for air and picks to accommodate him.
That's what I hope to see this summer, anyway...

As of now, I'm not sure we have a talent evaluator who can draft efficaciously. Not that we did before, but we seem to be even more impoverished - unless that one additional hire is coming...
The other part of my plan above is that you need roster space, which means you'd better evaluate Green/Terry/Tiger/Hinton well to decide who's expendable.

A really good summary. He is such a good offensive player with the ball in his hands, its hard to believe he has a negative impact on the court.
If we go this route, you have to surround those two (Luka/DeRozan) with 3&D. Guys like Green, Trent, Barton, Jackson, Batum. It probably makes sense to let THJ go as a Luka/DeRozan/THJ lineup would have no chance on defense. If KP can't get back to being a quality rim protector, he has to go (which really was the case anyways). There would need to be some retooling.

Another thing about this - looks like Timmy will not stay with us

Yeah that comment sounds like he’s not a priority at all.

I read it more as shitting all over KP. Timmy being the nice surprise.

Wasn’t the Cuban quote that Dallas is confident of being able to sign Tim? Sign and trade is still signing, no?

Mark likes to talk too much. Why tell people what you're looking for?
The Mavericks have the pieces to get Lillard, they just have to pull off a series of other trades to make it happen.
Here is what I mean:
Trade 1:
Knicks Receive:
Protections removed from 2023 1st round pick
Dallas Receives:
Kevin Knox
Trade 2:
OKC Receives:
Josh Richardson
Willie Cauley Stein
Tyrell Terry
Kevin Knox
Dallas Receives
Kemba Walker
Trade 3:
Cavs Receive
Jalen Brunson
Dallas Receives
Collin Sexton
Trade Package to Portland:
KP
Collin Sexton
Maxi Kleber
2025 1st
2027 1st
Trade Package from Portland to Dallas
Dame Lilliard
Jusuf Nurkic

Unless Dame demands a trade to Dallas and refuses to take the court for Portland, they laugh and hang up the phone.

why over complicate things with the Knick, OKC, and Cavs trades?
throw a few picks in and be done with it

of course, but given everything he has been saying this isn’t out of the realm of possibilities.

Definitely seems like finding another ball handler/scorer is #1 priority while a catch and shooter is (at best) secondary. (Which is as it should be, imho)
Also sounds like the Mavs should try to move Brunson while he still has value on his rookie contract.
Trade idea by Sam Amico - have y’all already discussed this?
To Cleveland
- KP
- 2nd rounder
To Dallas
- Colin Sexton
- Kevin Love
Cleveland does this (according to him) bc they are out on Love and Sexton isn’t ‘the guy’ and they have the #3 pick to draft the guy so they won’t be signing Sexton.
Dallas does this for sexton as a 6th man role/2nd ball handler and Love as a player rehab in our system.
I didn’t like it at first but the more I think about it it’s not bad.
