Am I the only fan that doesn't have to gear up for Luka playing, or Luka not playing for each game? I'm just going to experience whatever happens at the moment it happens.

No fifteenth I am with you but we have agreed before. I am a bit beside myself bummed like I did when Dirk got hurt. This time we do have guys who give us a shot and we have had time to prepare. Several guys have done really well at proving themselves this year. Now they get a much bigger opportunity to lift the Mavericks to the 2nd round.

I just think Luka getting hurt in the last game is quite literally the ultimate blue-balls. The team was playing better than they ever had in almost a decade, finally get an opponent in the playoffs that isn't a super team, and were poised to make a run to at least the second round.

I think that's why a lot of people are waiting on baited breath for Luka and is gearing up as you say. They were ready to finally win some. There's a good chance now the Jazz sweep unfortunately.

In any case, we still have the Wonderboy on the squad next year so no matter what even if the Jazz win this series, the Mavs will still be better off.
Interesting that Luka has NOT been listed as out for Game 1, but doubtful.  THJ and Ntilikina are listed as out.  Are Kidd and the Mavs trying to pull a fast one?  I'm hoping Luka plays tomorrow but maybe Game 2?

For sure. Wasn't saying anything negative about either approach. Interestingly enough, I think the 2011 championship combined with having a family did something to me regarding Mavs anxiety levels.

We've playfully speculated that Kidd is playing mind games with making Utah have to prepare for both scenarios, all the while knowing that Luka will play.

It may actually be the other way around. Maybe he has been forcing Utah to prepare for Luka while knowing that Luka wouldn't play.

No, i don’t think so.

Not everything is a conspiracy. Luka has a borderline grade 2 strain. He’ll be out 3-6 weeks. So you can consider it a season-ender. At least we swept the Spurs!

Ok pal, the bit is funny,  but throwing around "borderline grade 2 strain" as pretend news isn't.

It’s been called a little worse than a mild strain. Mild strain would be grade 1, so a little worse would be borderline grade 2. This is what Woj called it. This would also align with what McMahon’s been saying - calling a game 1 or game 2 return “dangerous.”

Fair enough. But I think those tweets were speculative, right? I don't think anything from the medical staff has surfaced.

Also, wasn't grade two measured in weeks, not days?
For all the good Kidd has done, playing Luka in that game was one of the most abjectly stupid decisions a coach could ever make.

I guarantee Luka will never, ever play in a game 82 ever again, unless a literal playoff spot is on the line.

Injuries can happen at any time. Luka was 2 minutes away from being pulled and he made a normal movement that lead to a strain. Freak accident.

But I agree, in hindsight the Mavs shouldn't have tried their best to get the 3rd seed and accepted the 4th seed.

Mavs are just holding out hope. Every other publication and news sites are listing him as out for game 1, and very doubtful for game 2. They don't need to bring him back until he's well enough to play.
Clippers without PG might still be better than the Mavs without Luka...and they probably are not beating the Pelicans tonight. I just don't know how a team with Brunson and Dinwiddie as the main scorers will be able to beat the Jazz

I'd say it's fairly close. Similar levels of defense, I think. I'd put Dinwiddie and Brunson ahead of Reggie Jackson and Mann as playmakers, but they've got some other guys who can score points on their own like Powell and Morris, which the Mavs are fairly lacking now. Beating Utah will require our shooters hitting lots of shots set up by Dinwiddie/Brunson.

What? Pelicans beat Jazz by 34 last meeting.

I wonder how any "publication" or "news site" could know more about Luka's status than the Dallas Mavericks organization.
