2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived
I know a lot of people don't like Adams I just like him as a guy who a) helps you get through the regular season soaking up a lot of backup big minutes and b) someone who gives you probably 10-15 mpg in the playoffs when you have a tight rotation but still need one guy who can give you quality for short stretches of time.

The only scenario I like is one where we ship off Powell's money and you live with Adams being basically an overpaid 6th man big. The other advantage with a guy like Adams is that if KP is sitting or injured you can still have a good offense by just sliding him into the starting lineup.

He isn't "that" expensive any more.

I wanted him here a long time, but he was never a fit 'til now.
He's also the nice guy with the mean strike we need.

Well his salary the next two years is at that 17 mil-ish number which is still starter money. I think Mavs have no interest in pairing KP with a traditional center so Adams would be the 6th man big. To match salaries anyway you would need to send out Powell anyway bc his salary is stil 27 mil this season.

I actually like trade on paper of JJ + Powell for Adams. Powell is a better fit on the Pels and Adams to me is a better fit here. He gives you rim rolling, defense and shot blocking. He would only 6 mil-ish to next year's salary when you account for Powell's money being off the books.

I would rather have Adams than the collection of WCS, Powell and Boban. Mavs would just need another backup for depth at that point in case of injury.

He's still not a fit, imho.  That moves KP to the 4 and one thing the last year has shown us (and KP, who was all about the 4 when he came here, but has changed his tune the end of last season)...KP needs to be at the 5.

After watching Gordon down here, he's the perfect small ball 4 for this system.  He's everything they wanted Powell to be.  Plays defense hard.  7-8 rebounds a game.  37% from 3.  Jumps out of the gym.  Everything we wanted from Powell...and if Powell were doing that, he'd be starting right now.

Another asset move we could do - call New York and switch 2021 unprotected pick (which will not be that special, probably) for a 2025 or 2027 unprotected FRP. In a trade of course, where 2021 FRP would be needed.

Oh, didn't know that.
I like Powell, even overpayed - but I would do it. Checking the Pels roster.

Don't want him to play that much with KP but rather insteed of him.

Powell did that before he got injured.

Don´t know how many times I have mentioned it: Adams signed a contract extension and cannot be traded this season.

Is there some kind of stair trade, where we trade JJohnson for a contract now and trade this contract for Adams in the offseason?

If the Clippers can put together a package for Ball, I'd love to see if we can outbid them.  I'd rather spend a future first on him than Gordon anyway.

The Patty Mills rumors are also intriguing.

I am IN on Lonzo and Collins....think they are big steps forward.

I am OUT on Dipo.

I am a fence rider on Fournier....not sure he is an improvement on THJ/JR.

And...he is actually capable of dribbling.

Yes...I get it...we dont run an offense where we want our bigs putting the rock on the floor.   I just prefer a 4/5 that has that fundamental in case he needs it to score.

Is that asking too much?

Didn't Adams' extension fit within the extend-and-trade limits? I believe that kept him fully trade eligible, if NO wants to move him.

It's certainly the closest thing to a difference-making deal that feels semi-possible to me.

Is the number I have heard the last few months for Lonzo's upcoming contract(20mil per) including this years 3P shooting?  Or will it be a bargain if you get him for 20mil and he continues to shoot well from 3?

I understand that 3 and D guys are a hot commodity...and that he has good D a high bball IQ...but he still has some flaws.   Just curious if he is now projected to get a lot more than the 20mil figure I have seen people suggest because of this years 3P shooting?

His shot mechanics look way improved which makes me think his 3P% will stay decent.  I dont think I would trust him in the clutch though.

I think so. I trust RC to be able to find another small guard to use successfully. I think it is harder for RC to fill the hole AG would fill.

If Clippers FO can even dream about trading for Ball, than Mavs should really be ashamed for not being able to bring in starter level talent. Zubac is the only asset Clippers have and even him is not that special. Clipps have no picks.
