I have been high on him for a long time. Would be a great running mate for Luka.

With the play-in games, there aren't many teams that are really out of the race yet.

-Eastern Conference 10th seed is the Pacers at 17-22.  The 14th seed Magic are only 4 games back.
-Western Conference 10th seed is the Grizz at 18-19.  The 13th seed Kings are 16-24.

So far only the Rockets, Wolves and Pistons seem to be out of the hunt.

I hate him so much.

I wonder if Hawks are having some buyer's remorse on Bogdan. He was injured and hasn't done much at all this season. Could be a buy-low candidate either TDL or the summer.

Don´t understand what he is trying to accomplish. Lonzo played the best basketball of his career and will probably get a big contract in the summer (could be even bigger if his dad wouldn´t tank his value). Is he trying to get him to a bigger market (LA/NY) or is this some kind of Ball brother reunion pipe dream?

He wants Lonzo to be the focal point of the team not the 3rd banana.   I thought he calmed down when Lonzo cut ties with him, so to speak, but I'm sure LaMelo's success has reignited his stupidity.

I'm so out on anyone from that family.

I watch a lot of LaMelo...very fun to watch.

I did not see or hear the entire interview and Im sure Melo's words were used as clickbait by the media...but I found his comments on Lebron and going to NBA games pretty much everything the NBA would not want you to say.

I am sure he was being genuine and not bashing Lebron when he said "Nah...im not excited to play him.  I play the same way vs everyone".   Kind of not what the league wants you to say and for casual fans to hear.

Honest but not towing the company line properly there.

This same interview he was asked about going to games and he said he doesnt like going to NBA games...rather watch at home ha.

Again...honest but not what you probably should say as an employee of a for profit business.

Im not bashing LaMelo here...just thought the comments were weird given the stigma the family carries due to their dad.

Anyway...I like both Ball brothers.  The dad is annoying but the kids(Lonzo and Melo) dont seem like punks.

Youre crazy for being out on Melo.  That team seems to love playing with him.

Not out on LaMello Ball, the player, just the baggage his family brings. It's hard enough to get an entire locker room facing the same direction without all of that. Nearly impossible with that on top, I'd bet.

I might feel differently if the Mavs' young superstar was someone like Zion who needed a difference maker to handle the ball. But, with Luka in place there are scads of ways to go without polluting your organization with LaVar, imo. It's just not worthwhile.

A trade I'd do to get a pretty decent 8 man playoff rotation of guys.

Luka/Sato
JRich/Sato
OPJ/DFS
AG/Maxi
KP/Maxi

Not a contender unless the 2 new guys just fit perfectly, but that is a second or third round team IMO.

For those of you who want to “get something” for Johnson, would you trade him for Aminu + two 2nds? Many here have mentioned the cap situation for Orlando and that could potentially motivate them to get off Aminu’s salary for next year.

There are no picks left, since they all moved to Oklahoma or NOLA so there is no grease to the wheel of trades.

Probably not for two 2nds. Make it 3-4 or a first and I would happily do it. Mavs fans love to complain about the lack of assets. Easiest way to solve the problem...Absorbing bad contracts. Not the most popular move but it might be the most rewarding in the long run.
Keep the current core, trade Johnson for bad salary + picks. Collect assets and prepare a trade for a legit 2nd/3rd option.

Will obviously never happen but I would prefer it over another Donnie&Mark free agency blunder.

I would say that Mavs are actually doing the variation of that. They are very patient with the team and prefer continuation over marginal improvements. Unless the star gets available everything they did was sign players to team friendly contracts that are easy to move. In effect this is slowly increasing their asset chest. They have Brunson and 3 rookies as young assets someone might have interest in. They have 2025 and 2027 FRP and a bunch of team friendly contracts. They actually even turned Seth into a pick and a good player.

I trully hope their FA plan is to resign JRich and THJ, assuming their contracts will be reasonable, and stay over the cap.

Based on this I see two possible ways for the ofseason as I would hate not to use Johnson contract and bet everything on FA:
- turn Johnson into 1 year longer contract as it would come really handy as a SnT option for one of the RFA. But teams like Orlando will never pay assets to get out of their contracts. Not like they will be competitive any time soon after they sell their starters. What we could hope for would be useful but overpaid players. Like Prince or Osman for example. Not many of them around as I doubt anyone would be ready to split with this season aquisitions yet (Bogdanovic, Gallo as examples).
- second option is to turn Johnson into good expiring player like OPJ for example. Someone you would like to resign

Hollinger with some trade ideas (not rumors).  Several of these are complex four team trades that are probably too complex to be realistic.  It is interesting to read why he thinks people fit and what he thinks value should be.  Here are the headliners for those who are not subscribers:

Dieng to Brooklyn in four team deal.  Dinwiddie ends up in Indy

Lowry to Philly.  Thybulle is main asset for Toronto

Birch to Denver

Fournier to Atlanta.  Snell and OKC's protected first to Orlando

Collins to Charlotte.  Graham, Washington and top 4 protected first to Charlotte (Mav's can't compete with that offer)

Barnes to Boston.  Two firsts to Sacramento (Maybe its just me, but two firsts seems slightly better than Justin Jackson)

Dipo to NY.  Frank N., Knox and two seconds to Houston.  (This feels about right regarding Dipo's current trade value)

A. Gordon to GSW.  This is a complex four team deal where GSW also gets G. Hill.  Magic get Oubre, Zach Collins, Wanamaker and two first round picks and a second.  I'd be interested in taking a flyer on Zach Collins if he were available in a deal.  Of course, you might be able to get him in free agency given Portland's tax situation going forward.  For Orlando, this is Collins plus two firsts and the Bird rights to Oubre.  That is probably more than even the most aggressive things that have been discussed here regarding Gordon.

Continuity would mean that they plan to resign Richardson and THJ but I don´t buy it. If they don´t trade Johnson I expect another free agency hunt in the summer.

Our asset chest is unfortunately rookies with questionable value plus Brunson.

It still makes me sad that we had those two picks that could have really fetched a good player and instead have guys who aren't playing.

This time Hollinger with Cato.  What should the Mav's do?

Holiday and Leonard = Pipe dreams.  Don't build a summer strategy around pipe dreams

Lowry one year at Big $?  Too ST.  Doesn't help longer term

Lonzo and Collins...might be able to get if Dallas is willing to overpay this summer

Dipo and Fournier...Is this much better than just bringing back THJ and Richardson?

Proposes a Powell/Johnson/Iwundu/2nd deal for Dipo/House and expiring McLemore.  Even if you don't keep Dipo this summer, you've cleared Powell and have House as a bench wing for a year.
