Horford got a 100 million dollar deal last year over 4 years, couldn't Hayward get like a 3 yr 100 mil deal from the Hawks? I don't see him taking a double-digit cut from his first year's salary.

Except the whole financial reality of the NBA was totally transformed for at least the next three years in the last 9 months. 

Horford means nothing for contracts moving forward.

We will see. Hayward is giving up 34 mil this year. He isn't doing that for a 20 mil first year salary. If he does do that he must really hate playing in Boston.

The Hawks, TPE angle makes sense though. Ainge has way too many picks. Could easily toss a pick to the Hawks for a S&T to give him a giant trade exception.

But wait....people are saying Ainge has the leverage why would he give up a PICK?!?

Atl has cap space to sign Hayward. We do not. We need Boston’s help to acquire GH. It’s pretty simple.

I threw out the 20 mill # earlier. I don't think he takes that deal either. I said that's what I'm comfortable paying for him. He'll get 25-30 again either this year or next. And it's an overpay then too.

Sure. But that actually makes even less sense to push back the option date until after the draft.

BTW, I'll also amend my previous statement. I'm not sure this is about a S&T, or he would have out opted out already. Because of the option he still hasn't exercised, I think Hayward is using Atlanta's cap space as leverage to force a trade where he opts in and keeps his current salary while getting an extension in the process. Maybe he still ends up in Atlanta. But it could just as easily be to a place like Dallas.

Hardaway was 7th in 3s made last year. Hayward was 119. Even if you go with Haywards total his final year in Utah he is at 50th. 

For those saying THJ was bad shooting, imagine the cringe when Hayward goes 0-10 on threes.

How ab Mavs do just THJ + Wright for Lamb and Dipo? Lamb has been a disappointment for Indy but I think Ricky would make him useful.

A case can be made that Hayward makes us a worse team for that reason alone. I am just struggling to see and understand the fit with us an then his salary does not match his production.

Because the media is full of lies. Why would he move the option date back if he wanted to go to Atlanta? He could just sign outright. He doesn’t want to be in Atlanta but still wants to get paid

He might have extended bc Atlanta asked him to so they can get a pick or two in exchange for Boston getting a giant trade exception. It doesn't burden Hayward in anyway to extend his deadline a day or so until a deal is made.

Not sure if there is an advantage to opt-in and extend vs a straight up S&T. I don't know if there are limitations on S&T for taxpaying teams and I know the Celts are taxpayers.

Also the extension keeps all of Haywards options on the table. If he goes ahead and opts out then he loses some options. I do think the door is still cracked open for a Dallas or Indy to make a move but it seems like ATL is 80% there.

The team with cap space not requiring a trade is always in the best position to get the player. It's just that Hayward's actions indicate he's not as interested in the team with cap space as they might want to believe.

Imagine the tables were turned. The Mavs have lots of cap space and articles are being written about Hayward considering Dallas, but at the last minute he decides to delay opting out with no explanation. As many times as we've been used as negotiating pawns in free agency, I can guarantee nobody here would feel very confident in that situation.

This is strange. I got word of another MEGA deal which Atlanta is in. This one involves Boston and James Harden. Boston would be cashing in it's chips basically. Hawks are financing the deal. Why, because Boston is compensating us well. 

Boston will be taking on P.J. Tucker, Dedmon, and James Harden. 
Boston will be sending out an insane amount of picks, Jaylen Brown, and filler, to Houston and obviously Hayward is already going to Atlanta but we are financing the deal. 
Harden hasn't mentioned Boston as a team of interest but it doesn't seem like Boston gives a damn. This is crazy to me because Boston has told people they are not interested in a move for Harden but that's not what he's hearing. 
Once again, Atlanta will be compensated (1st rounder) for their help. 
 
Westbrook might be stuck in Houston until they can get what they want for him. 

This is not a done deal but damnit, it's in the works.

I doubt this happens, but if it does I will be OK with it. It is about time to eastern conference was not a complete cakewalk for someone. Boston, Miami, Brooklyn and Milwaukee would all be contenders in the Western Conference, too.
