Please move it. I started it more as a Mavs thread but it has devolved which I should have expected.

I'll give it one more chance for this IS news worthy for the Mavs. But my leash will be short.

Care to answer any questions from my second post in this thread?

Not really, because I don't understand what point you think you're making.  I come from a family that served and I spent some time in myself, and none of the people I know have the attitude you imply that military families have, so there's not really much to discuss. This topic is over anyways as the NBA has made the decision for Cuban.

I have been to China, and I can vouch for this comment.

Went on a date with a girl whose father had literally gone from being fairly high up in the government to being in prison overnight. Why? Sudden government policy change.

I had about 10 speaking events on that trip for work, and was warned every time to avoid saying anything negative about the government.
Cuban told The New York Times that the team plans to comply with the league policy: 'We are good with it.'

He also released his own statement on Wednesday afternoon: 'We respect and always have respected the passion people have for the anthem and our country. But we also loudly hear the voices of those who feel that the anthem does not represent them.

'We feel that their voices need to be respected and heard, because they have not been. Going forward, our hope is that people will take the same passion they have for this issue and apply the same amount of energy to listen to those who feel differently from them. Only then we can move forward and have courageous conversations that move this country forward and find what unites us.'
4 pages to discuss the fact that the Mavericks are going back to their old ways...

I am giving Cuban the benefit of the doubt that he intended to shield his players from having to kneel to keep the momentum of the fight for human rights in this country. Silver has put the onus back on the players with this and I am not sure that is necessarily a good thing in the week following the All-Star game dispute. I am fearful that the next CBA will be nastily fought to make agreements.

Oops, I should’ve known typing the words “one big” would elicit this reaction.

Sorry, everyone.
I guess this really is some woken political BS.

I thought it might be as simple as: I´m sitting in this empty arena listening to this anthem for the fifth time in 10 days why don´t we just play ball, I´m bored.

Telling me to leave the country because I point out that war is bad and no one wants their neighbor invading their house?  And...that there is some double standard to groupthink and no one wants to talk about it?

Im the bad guy.

National Anthems are stupid.

I respect all people.  I love America even if she dont love me.
I think "woke" got their elected official with the vast majority vote, so it seems to me, America is the "woke" group. Is that the America that doesn't love you?
Cuban, apparently:  "But we also loudly hear the voices of those who feel that the anthem does not represent them."

I'm not sure I even understand what Cuban means.  As far as I can see, the Anthem is not supposed to "represent" any one, or any group, in particular.  I just look at it as a song that was written to commemorate not being killed by King George's army.

And, neither do I understand what Cuban is talking about when he says,  "Going forward, our hope is that people will take the same passion they have for this issue and apply the same amount of energy to listen to those who feel differently from them."

How much "passion" does one have to have to be able to understand the arguments on either side of this question of playing the anthem or not?  Personally, I've been listening to all the arguments for the last several years.  I guess it just irks Cuban that some people just don't see things the way he does.

Neither do I, but I´m sure it means he pissed of Silver, the NBPA, the NBRA and all the other owners to make sure Luka gets mauled even worse going forward.  Undecided

Too many people are doing these mental gymnastics.

Gosh.  You see only what you want to see.  No wonder you get caught in endless circles of "mental gymnastics."

I dont vote...its an illusion.  Im a civillian...my vote wouldnt count anyway.

I dont get involved in government/power things.   People just want to choose one of the extremes instead of having a conversation that makes sense.

Ill die on this lonely hill loving all.

I will make one comment for possible context on the DOD thing and then I’m going to mooooove on.

I have had the opportunity to work on programs with several pro teams (one in the metroplex) around community awareness initiatives and in my experience, there has been a request for $ every time.  It doesn’t surprise me that there was a financial request if the DOD wanted access to the fan base.

It’s fair to ask whether this is an appropriate use of tax dollars but I personally don’t see some nefarious motive no more than when when I see a commercial saying the few, the proud, the marines or an army booth at the fair.
