Thanks!  I am more than a bit monk-like I think.

One reason I'm drawn to post here besides being a Mavs fan, is the interesting mix of personalities.
Some I very much disagree with often, but that's a good thing in my book.

Lol, Silver throwing Cuban a lifeline?

So, you come at me with "garbage" because I think that's a little conspiracy?  Whatever....what happened to you, man?  You used to be reasonable.

I dip in and out for a few months, and you turn into mean girl online.  Geesh.

Tbh, you’re the one calling him names, not the other way around. I don’t mean that as a point of confrontation, because I value your viewpoint greatly. Hope you keep posting around here. Just saying, I don’t know that this thread is a great example of Kamm being unreasonable. For that, you’d need to bring up the idea of the Mavs playing with one big.

Very possibly. Mutually agreed upon damage control.

NBA likely perceives some $$$ backlash.  I imagine they want to be woke, but not too woke.  Wink

I totally agree that..
1)  Cuban tried to make this a thing...and he did, that's a fact.
2)  That Silver wisely shut it down immediately.

What Cuban did was like rolling into a bar in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and saying "I think Bear Bryant is overrated."  Totally fine to have that opinion, totally within your rights, but why do you want to start something for no tangible gain whatsoever?  My opnion, obviously is that there is no tangible gain, in the sense, of +/-, because any + is going to be swept away by the minus that you will ultimately get...and honestly, I think the negative of this move, at this time, FAR outweighs ANY positive.
An interesting discussion, but it seems to be lost in an endless circle.  I am one of those who can never kneel when the National Anthem is played.  I simply can't.  To me it is a symbol of what the country "should" be.  This country is what gives each of us the freedom to do and say (for the most part) what we want to.  I guess we can use the "hokey" old term "liberty".  As far as kneeling goes...I certainly can and will kneel at any appropriate time and place (to me) for racial equality...and/or equality of almost any kind.

I am also one of those who believes Mark Cuban did this to avoid future problems associated with kneeling during the Anthem.  It seems that Cuban and Silver are going to go head to head on this.

I just want to watch the game guys...

Well, I didn't really intend to call names, and was using that more in a descriptive fashion with a little levity, but I totally see where what you said is valid.  I apologize to Kammrath if it came across as I'm labelling him as a "conspiracy theorist" in the whole and not that one thing.  I looked at it more as I would a non-atheltic friend trying to strike a Heisman pose and me saying "Ain't you all Slim Reaper?", when that's not what I expect from him at all.

But I still am shocked at his return of pretty tame serve for this venue with "garbage", which is a little different to me in tone and meaning...that's an amp up.

Of course, especially you KL, since you've already told me that you view me, shall we say less than favorably.  Tongue

In this case I didn't view you as attacking me.  I was just commenting on the fact that the phrase woke ideology might be considered pejorative.  I thought that raised some interesting points as to how some might think the words should be sanitized.

I'm not too fond of walking on eggshells to say something but its somewhat unavoidable many times.

As for Cuban, I have as I imagine you have as well heard plenty of his views on topics including politics. Some I agree with, others I don't.

I wasn't even attacking him, so did you feel a need to defend him against the phrase?  I think someone else earlier said he might want to run as a woke presidential candidate.  Is that pejorative too?

I think his views fall much more into the woke ideological camp than outside if it, but that's not an attack in my view.  He's in the mainstream of thought, certainly within the NBA.

I am with this opinion.  I had hoped that he would come out and say that he was trying to avoid the inevitable clash of either denying rights that he was uncomfortable denying and making someone mad every game.

For me personally, hearing this today was like another gut punch from 2020.  Why?  Because I literally would have been thinking about this the whole game, and would be stealing my joy from watching the Mavs.  It wouldn't make me love black people more or be more fair or equitable, I already try to do that, while balancing the truth that this country and its history isn't the deep pit of crap that people seem to making it out to be now.  Everyone that complains has benefitted and if it was such a terrible place to live, we wouldn't have an overcrowded immigration issue.  No one is swimming the ocean to go to the Netherlands, as much as people try to tell me there are so much better than us.  (Also, none of that means that I don't think we have much room to get better or want to stay harmful in any area.)

Sorry if my tone wasn't as good as it could have been. It was never intended as an attack at you, I will do better.

My point is simply this:

The Department of Defense has been BUYING patriotism platforms from the major sports leagues in the US for some time (in addition to buying tons of advertising time during the games). This has nothing even remotely to do with "conspiracy" (that term is completely inappropriate in this context). It is a straight demonstrable and traceable fact. Period.

Didn’t Cuban say they had run this by the league and got their blessings?  If so, Silver is backtracking now.

Gotta start somewhere.  Unless you just bend over for the status quo your whole life.  It has to be "Us vs Them", right?  Too many brainwashed government employees that are going to attack Cuban...so he should backtrack, right?   We have to promote war or hivemind will come after you.  Groupthink or get lost.

It still goes back to my second post in this thread...Can you please enlighten me on why I should sell my soul to a government ideology?

Bamanut...let me ask you this:  Would you like to fight your next door neighbor everyday?  Hypothetically...lets say he is bigger and stronger than you...and he wants to screw your wife and steal your stuff...would you like it?  Or would you prefer he be somewhat respectable and social and not do such a thing?   If you say you want him to be nice and somewhat social...youre a sissy liberal socialist...you dont believe in capitalizing.   If you say you are ok with what he does because he is capitalizing...you should shake his hand and let him know you wish you were as alpha as him.

Why do people have a different mindset as an individual than when part of a gang?

I am sorry you contradict yourself.  First you say you can never kneel and that its a symbol of this country.  Then you say that you will kneel for racial equality.  Its either you will kneel or you wont. Too many people are doing these mental gymnastics.

Don’t give Silver a free pass. The initial ESPN story clearly stated that the Mavs had stopped playing it after consulting withe the commissioner.  Agree or disagree with Cuban, it looks like Silver is the one chickening out now.

I just don't understand why people are incapable of thinking these days in terms of grey not black and white.  These are some of the one sided slogans that were constantly bombarded with.

-All Black people are either good or bad.  (The same people that supported Jim crow laws are now idolizing every black person)
-All police are either good or bad.  (the same people that idolized police on 9/11 are now calling them pigs)
-The entire United States as a country is either good or bad.  (Again the same NFL that ran showpieces on the guy that joined the army and died in Afghanistan is now supporting disrespecting the flag that was wrapped around Pat Tillman's coffin (and national anthem)
-Not one ounce of real solution has been provided just a ton of slogans (very akin to my native Soviet Union).  How to make decrease police shootings while maintaining public safety?  How to improve the lives of Black Americans? No one has given anything but BS rhetoric.

There are wonderful ideals in the US equality being the main one.  It is the #1 reason to move here.  And while some groups are not treated equally in practice there are rules and laws that already exist to address than or there can be new one's enacted.  But it is up to each individual to live life and form relationships, not up to the government or Mark Cuban or Lebron James.  I personally agree with Morgan Freeman that the best way to end racism to stop talking about it.  On an individual level stop thinking about it and just treat people as people.

Folks life isn't clear cut, and black and white.  Its very complicated and very grey. And Cuban is an idiot for getting into this mess...

What a ridiculous and nonsensical take.  You're all over the place.  In your example relevant the choices would be either defending his wife and property from someone who wants to take it (capitalism) or freely sharing his property and his wife with his neighbor (socialism).  Nobody is making you "sell your soul to a government ideology".  You're free to criticize the government all you want in this country as long as you don't try to stage a coup.  Go to China and criticize the government and see how that turns out for you.

Follow the money. Again I would be shocked if there isn't money on the line somewhere, whether it is pressure from the Department of Defense or whether it is some other big money source that is potentially threatening to pull out over this.
