100% down with that. 100%.

Josh talking about himself in the 3rd person makes cow want to bench him for the rest of the season.

KP to SAC for Holmes SnT, Bagley and a protected FRP

Keep THj and JRich

Dragic MLE

Luka/Brunson
Dragic/JRich
DFS/THj
Maxi/Bagley
Holmes/Powell

Run it back with that deeper and more athletic squad. If things don’t work out we have 3 FRP’s to trade the following summer

That leaves you with 3 guys in the big rotation who can't play together because they can't shoot.

That also is selling very low on KP.  Holmes is a UFA, Bagley is a mess and the pick is protected.  If they can't do better than that then they are going to hold him unless he is completely broken or the locker room is.

Are you refering to the tweet? It was Josh Richardson speaking about Josh Green

Not sure if cow was joking, either way I support it.

No way JRich is back. No way.

It honestly explains so much.

I think Duffy is the only reason why J Rich hadn't been benched sooner. Mavs have given him as much rope as they possibly can. They can't start him if he's playing awful. And if THJ can come off the bench  without complaining then J Rich can come off the bench. THJ needs to be in the starting lineup. It doesn't necessarily tank J Rich's value, playing poorly tanks a player's value. If J Rich plays better off the bench then his value isn't going to tank at all.

As it stands J Rich should be fine contract-wise. His opt-in number is close to MLE and he just hasn't showing anyone that he's worth more than that. His value hasn't bottomed out either despite playing poorly. I think he's basically like a Delon Wright+ type rotation player at this point.

I could also see Mavs helping coordinate an opt-in and trade if it made sense for both parties.

Luka
THJ
DFS
Kleber
KP

Bench:

Brunson
J-Rich
Green
Powell
WCS

Burke, Redick, Melli, and Boban rounding out the bench

Hinton and Bey cheering from the sidelines

I think Green's energy off the bench will be a huge help.  Hopefully, J-Rich will be motivated coming off the bench.  As we approach the playoffs, we need a little more punch in our starting lineup.  J-Rich and DFS, although our best defenders, cannot be depended on from an offensive perspective.

I think you are mostly right but I expect Powell to stay in the starting lineup for at least the rest of the regular season and probably to begin the playoffs. Mavs did the 5 out stuff for a while and even though THJ would improve that lineup I think Mavs have gone back to wanting that rim-rolling threat, at least for now.

I think it may depend on who they are playing.  Against Drummond he worked great.  Against Holmes not so much.

Sign and trades are a longshot but for the mavs it is by far the best way to maximize the remaining assets and capspace.
Still love the recently proposed Pelicans trade ideas:

Ball (4/90) + Adams + minor pieces --> KP + Burke

Followed by an all out overpay for Duncan Robinson:

Richardson + picks --> Duncan Robinson (4/70)

If the Mavs reject all remaining options and capholds it should leave them with enough capspace to add one more guy in the 10-12m range, the rE and the BAE.

FYI I don't think 4/70 for Robinson is an overpay that's the going rate actually.

Rick doesn't like messing with lineups if he can avoid it. KP and Powell played together for many games last season so it's not really a stretch. I have been advocating for a return to last year's starting group for some time now. Even with KP out some games I still think Powell will be in the starting lineup. WCS has been good off the bench. If KP sits and Maxi is available, he is usually the one that will start next to Powell.

Mo Bamba playing well. What if he gets hot here late in the year? The reason I bring him up is not bc the Mavs would want him. I think Bamba could make WCS disposable. WCS would fit the Powell role well. Bulls didn't really know how to utilize him. I think he'd be good next to KP.

KP to SAC for Holmes SnT ........

I think we can end the conversation right there, unfortunately, because SAC's ability to sign Holmes (the first half of a "sign-and-trade" transaction) is very limited. Unless they do some significant salary clearing, all they can offer him is about 10.5M in year 1 salary, using Early Bird rights.

(Existing deals for Hield, Barnes, Fox, Hallibuton, Wright, Bagley PLUS 1st rounder leave them with less than that.)

If you think he's getting 10.5M or less, then this is a moot point, of course. But most here seem to think he's getting more.

SAC does have the ability to clear out cap room to offer him more, but you'd think they would do that roster juggling (and slicing) to be able to keep him, not for the benefit of another team.
