2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived
You diasgree fif?

I mean KP has been underwhelming here for various reasons - health related mostly. I, like most, have not completely given up on him yet but unlike Luka, he is certainly a player I would be willing to trade if the price is right. I mean I would say this about almost any player in this league, tbh.

Let me say first, I believe the quickest and most effective way to build a champion is to keep KP here.

Everyone is available on our roster, outside of luka, for the right price though.   That is true for 99% of players in the league too.

I thought the press report a few weeks ago that the Mavs were one of the teams that were going to be aggressive with John Collins as an RFA was a message to Atlanta letting know they better be ready to match a max offer if they want to keep him.   Sort of a hope this makes Atlanta move now rather when things get a little trickier for Dallas this offseason.  With that being said, I don't believe Dallas called Atlanta offering KP in a package for Collins.   Maybe ATL counter offered with KP.  If you are Dallas, you have to listen.   See how other teams view KP.

As far as Washington,  If Dallas is making a call for Beal, you better be ready to discuss KP.   Washington may not have any interest in KP, but if you are not bringing KP to the table, than it is a waste of a call.

I don't see Dallas calling Golden State on KP.   Maybe Golden State would call Dallas.  But unlike others, I do not see a match there for either team at this point.

Most likely KP will remain in Dallas and Dallas will do its best to make it work for at least another year and probably at least a few years.  Although, sometimes you get an offer you can't refuse.  I have trouble picturing that deal now.

It's been like this the last 3 weeks.

Oh, I don't agree or disagree. I think that if Luka and KP both have great attitudes then they can put in the work and figure out how to fit together.

And Luka isn't going anywhere (of course)!!!

So it's up to KP to have the willingness and put in the work to forge a fit with Luka. If KP isn't up for that and has a selfish attitude then you gotta (the Mavs) work to get the most you can for KP in a trade.

If our tea-leaf readers are right, and that KP is unhappy about playing with Luka, then KP either gotta adjust the attitude, get the willlingness to work out the fit, or move along.

The point I am trying to make is if the Mavs trade KP and aren't getting back LaVine (and presumably White) they are going to get their choice of the rest of the roster and can also make Chicago take back Powell. WCJ doesn't have a lot of value anyway (positive asset but not worth a ton).

KP has way more market value than people give him credit for. Unless the Mavs are super high on Lauri Markkanen then I don't know if a Bulls package would move the needle enough for them. The one advantage in this package is that a) you get back some good players but also b) you open up a lot of cap space as well. Powell's money would offset some of the incoming money and Lauri's cap hold would be I think 10 mil-ish so my guess is that you open up another 20 mil in cap space.

Is that enough to move the needle for the Mavs? I don't think so unless KP is demanding out and they like Markkanen as a foundational piece.

I'm anticipating a really boring trade deadline.   The NBA has largely removed the incentive for teams to be active sellers between expanding the playoffs and adjusting the lottery to disincentive tanking.   The big trade has already been made (Harden).   Big name buyouts are probably going to the Brooklyn or Lakers/Clips and chase a ring in the major media markets with the big name players.    If you're a potential seller, unless you're trying to unload an expiring you have no intention of resigning and you just want to get "something" for an asset, why not wait until the summer.

So first Washington isn't going to do Beal for KP. If anything they would be trying to get KP or some other third star to salvage their current mediocre Eastern conference team before Beal demands out. Time is running out and I see them getting desperate.

Re: Dallas, GS - don't know who called who but a deal there is to be made if Dallas likes Wiseman. The reporting sure seems to indicate they were the ones who reached out to GS to gauge KP's value and Wiseman is the only guy they would want on that team so my guess is that they do like Wiseman.

When I see stories like https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/warri...er-report/ it leads me to believe they are negotiating through the media with somebody (Mavs or another team like Washington).

They are telling reporters man we aren't giving up that pick or Wiseman unless its a Giannis-level star (lol how many of those are there again?).

Basically what I am saying is the more Warriors articles like this the more likely it is that they are looking to trade Wiseman and/or that pick for a star player.

Disclaimer - Bobby Marks is good at this stuff, and I don't know what he wrote.

But if he said GS can't trade their 2021 pick, he goofed. If they wanted, GS could trade either the Minnesota pick, or their own.

The Warriors are in a desperate win now situation. They HAVE to move Wiseman and MIN 1st to give themselves a chance to win over the next three years. That's their window. Everything else be damned.

Agreed. And they’re probably trying to keep one of those two assets, but if I’m the mavs i want both even if i have to give up something else in addition to KP

Their 2021 pick goes to OKC if it’s 21-30. Can’t trade picks in back to back years. 2024-2026 have restrictions. After the 2021 draft they could trade their 2022 pick, but that’s it

So I listened to the latest Simmons pod with Russillo last night. They talked about potential John Collins trades and pointed out that the Hawks only would do a deal, if they receive an instantly good player. This made me think, what a Collins for KP deal would look like. Obviously the Hawks would have to sweeten the deal significantly, as Collins isnt happy in ATL right now anyway. So I went to the machine. What do you think http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7kg782o

Warriors really want to contend for a title, they're better off waiting for this summer and packaging the Wolves pick and Wiseman for a true star like Beal and making a run next year when Klay comes back.   There's not 1 move away from contending with the Lakers with any of the names thrown out there at this trade deadline (including KP).

They can trade their own pick, protected to be within 1-20. If it falls outside that range, then ____________ (logically "If it falls outside that range, then you get the GS 2022 1st round pick.") And they can make that trade now, if they wish.
>>> Or, if you want a simpler trade of a GS 1st round pick, they could just trade their own 2022 1st round pick. There is nothing preventing that.

There is nothing within the Stepien rule that would prevent that.

(BTW, the Stepien rule is not "Can’t trade picks in back to back years." That's sorta the idea, but not exactly, and the details often make a difference.)

* I should note that what I'm saying is based on the details of future pick restrictions given at RealGM website. If they are missing something, then I am missing something. But they are always accurate.

I don't think that kind of deal is too far off of what could be realistic. I am with @"DanSchwartzgan" though that it might include Bogdan instead of Gallo.

I get that note from the Mavs' perspective, but not from the Hawks'.

Bogdan has been a total bust for ATL so far. I think they regret that move big time. So I am suggesting it because I think ATL would prefer it.

Has he been a bust, or has he just not been able to play due to injury?

My counter to that would be that Gallo has been worse, imo, and I believe he has been available more often this season. PLUS, he has some situational overlap with Porzingis. I suppose you could make the argument that they'd need Gallo to remain in the mix as a third big...just haven't seen any indication that they're displeased with the Bogdanovic signing - only disappointment that they haven't really seen what he'll bring on the court yet.
