HALLELUKA: Luka Clinches All-NBA 1st team. 4th in 5 years
(02-27-2021, 07:03 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Totally. The Mavs are in year 3 of an 8 year project. Yes, it would be better to get there sooner, but the absolute must is to be a contender when Luka's real free agency happens. I'm not saying they shouldn't try to be good quickly, but if impatience causes them to paint themselves into a corner (which they allllllllmost have) that will have negative repercussions beyond having underwhelming seasons in years 3 and 4.

The Mavs never tried a slow and steady approach. It´s just not Cuban nature. He will take risks and always tries to find a short cut. I don´t like it and proposed a different approach in the last few years but it´s not going to happen.

I'm ok with risks for possible shortcuts. I absolutely would've made the KP trade and given him the contract. No revisionist history here on my part.

But, if you're going to play the game that way, you've got to be willing to admit when you've made a mistake. Doubling down on them is how you become Cleveland right before Lebron left (both times).

I agree with that logic but I would like to be sure KP cannot return to his Bubble or end of last year self.  So I would preach patience on our part to some extent.
