2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived

And to do this, you need to be smart with our asset management.
Trading all picks you have, which is few years away anyway so not very desirable, will barely get us anything.
I have no problem trading those picks, but when their value are high and can be added to enough assets to get a star.

And for the record, I think the goal should be winning between 2023-2025. If we win in 2021 and sucked in those years Luka will do a Kawhi on us.

It was already mentioned in previous posts. Simmons is basically the perfect small ball 4/5. Especially next to a stretch big like KP.

Giannis was a player coming from 2nd division in Europe, developing gradually in the NBA into a modern day PF. He plays as PF who loves to make plays to teammates.
If he came here, it would have been in FA trying to win rings. Easier to tell him to be that guy.

OTOH Simmons is PG who was told all his life he is the best ball handler and passer who should make plays. He have been this way all his life, and if he ever comes here it will be through a trade, not as FA planning to play with Luka and change his whole game.

I believe that Simmons has the tools to be what you want him to be, I don't think he has the mindset for it.

I like Powell and I think he's brought a lot to the Mavs, on and off the court. He's sometimes under appreciated for the work he puts in.

That said, I'm liking Simmons as Powell 2.0, if he is willing to take that position and could get behind participation in a multi-team trade that brings him here. Personally, I'd like it sooner rather than later to let everyone get comfortable in their roles and how KP slots in when he returns. But timing is out of our hands here.

Is there any sense of urgency between Hou and PHL to put a deal together?

Bleacher is proposing Johnson +Terry+FRP for Gordon trade idea. While I have my doubts about Gordon, I would do it. It will be a significant upgrade. Terry will have difficulty getting minutes on our deep team and I rather trade him than Burke or Brunson.

How far out is the FRP? 2024?

Would Gordon be a rotational bench guy or compete for DFS's position? I guess it depends on whether DFS keeps his career high %s from last season up going into this one. The Mav's are not as talent-starved as a few years ago, even a year ago, so I don't know if the need for Gordon is still what it once was. Compared to the players outgoing, he would be an improvement, but FRPs are going to be scarce for DAL the next few seasons. Do we really want to use one for Gordon?

Why is Simmons being discussed? Have we forgotten Simmons agent is Klutch/Rich Paul. The chances of Simmons wearing a Mavs uniform ever are slim to none.

They are saying 2025 which I don't think is possible. Gordon would be a starter, of course. If you don't think he is a starter, you don't trade for him.

I agree that Simmons to Dallas is the longest of shots, but I don't know what him being a Klutch guy has to do with it.

I think Simmons is unrealistic in general. They wouldn't take anything less than Luka or KP. Thats how they value him.

If a Harden trade happens, its prolly not many picks added either. I think its just negotiations going on. Rockets want Simmons + 3 picks. Sixers want Simmons straight up.

The rumor never made any sense to me.

Sure. Perhaps Rocketts gave a call and Mavs were polite.

Cuban and Rich Paul don't have a good relationship going back to the Noel saga. A lot of bad blood there. I doubt you see any Klutch clients on the Mavs for a long long time if ever.

We have first round pick traded to Knicks that can be conveyed at 2023 (at earliest) to 2025 (at latest)
we will have to trade "first available pick " which will be 2025-2027.

For the right players, you build the relationship back.
You can't just blacklist a top agent like him, it is bad business

After Lebron retires and/or is no longer the face of the league I don't know if Klutch remains' a top agency.  Moreover, having bad relationship with Klutch hasn't affected the Mavs up and to this point so hard to see it being bad for business in the future.

Regardless that relationship isn't chaining any time soon and definitely not bringing us Simmons in a trade.

What if Luka changed agent and went to Klutch? Do you keep him or trade him because he is Klutch client? Nah, you have to keep an open mind
And as much as I dislike them, I doubt they will stop being top agency. AD, Trae Young and Simmons are all good young players there.

Super stars rarely change agents esp. after they get paid.  In the hypothetical situation that Luka would change agents from DBA to klutch, I'm sure Cuban would do whatever it took to mend that relationship with Klutch at that point and keep Luka on the Mavs.

However baring something drastic don't count on any Klutch Clients on Mavs.   Its no coincidence we haven't seen one on the Mavs since Noel or shown any interest in their clients in draft, FA or through trades.

What's not to like?

I certainly hope so, the things that Lebron has been able to do in the NBA needs to be analyzed as he gained too much power being able to control player movement through the Agent process. Lebron has essentially promoted AAU culture in the NBA. Something needs to be done to better control this.

I would love to get AG but wasn't it rumored that POR offered 2 firsts and got turned down?
