DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."
Any interest in a THJ, DFS, Jackson for Hayward trade?

It feels like Hayward wants out of Boston and Boston wants him gone. But neither side wants to give the other up for nothing. Celtics have no cap space even if he leaves. And no chance Hayward gets as much money on the open market this summer.

I wonder if THJ might not have more value at the trade deadline when he becomes $19 million expiring and a disappointed team that hoped to contend now just wants to get off a big contract

But are you willing to give anything else up? I am not really, for that contract. I don't think he is the missing piece.

As for competition. It is likely Denver and Philly. Mavs have the advantage of THJ expiring, while Philly would center their deal (likely) around Horford (3 years left) and Denver around G.Harris (2 years). But, they are both more desperate and have picks.

As for Sacramento cap problems. They were mostly gone with Bogdanovic trade. I would think they would prefer draft picks over cap flexibility
This is most likely. Denver, Boston or Philly would give multiple picks if they get desperate. I’m fine with missing on Buddy and taking another team out of the trade market

KOC] Brooklyn are throwing the kitchen sink in the Harden Trade. All the future picks, all pick swaps + Dinwiddie and Levert

Not sure what the trade cost will be, but I have a sneaky feeling this is one of the options the Mavs are looking at.

Yes. I'm willing to give up 18 for it. I like THJ role in the offense and Buddy is an upgrade on that end. It's not all that close IMO.

I've said it before. If you don't have interest in Buddy, then you need to be trading THJ if he has any sort of value. If you like THJ, you should be looking to upgrade him or lock him in long term to a team friendly deal.

Edit: I also don't think Denver is as desperate as some of you make them out to be. They went to the WCF and are just going to get better with their young guys. I do think they realized they badly need another offensive creator. That's why Jrue made alot of sense. I don't think I really buy them being in on Buddy tbh.

This. If we could somehow turn 18 to a future 1st, we could have picks and a big contract at the deadline. Could make a move then and right now get our cheap Danny Green and Millsap

I think that the trade cost is just that. No picks. Celtics don't need an extra pick this year. Mavs have nothing in the future they would give for Hayward. If they were that desperate they'd be clearing space and telling Hayward's agent Dallas is ready for him in FA.

I'd argue that maybe even Dallas tries to nab one of those picks in that deal. THJ for for Hayward straight up is more than fair. Adding in DFS? That warrants a pick.

Bobi could be there instead of DFS. I just refuse to include Bobi in any trade. The 3rd untouchable of the Mavs haha.

I wonder if Hayward didn't push his deadline back for a possible Mavs trade. Maybe it depends on who's there at 18. Just a thought.

No one should be disappointed. Outside of Schroeder and Bogdan, we don't have the assets to play in these negotiations. As far as the sentiment that we should operate as a desperate team, we can't give up all of our tradable assets as we still need starters on the floor with Luka, KP and ???. We are a few years away from title contention. No reason to rush and screw yourself down the line.

Will Mavs just do smaller value moves? Draft 18, get DG or Oubre for Wright dump and 31. Spend MLE on a guy or two, maybe including Trey Burke who had some breakout success in the playoffs. Is that our offseason?
I know people will poo poo this.

But honestly that’s not bad in this climate especially since there’s not a move they could legitimately make that would put them on the level of Lakers/clips/GSW or Bucks/Nets(with Harden) ect...

Unless Luka makes another huge jump and the role players around him do as well.

What's a package that would make sense for Hayward? That would definitely be a big splash move for the Mavs.

Very possible.

Leave the Mavs out of it, and what I see is:

Hayward does NOT want to go back to Boston. Plenty of rumored reasons why, but he doesn't seem to want to be there.

He has gotten an offer from a cap space team  (Atlanta, probably) that he will accept to leave, if he has to, but he WANTS to play somewhere else. Somewhere specific. But, this team does not have cap room.

At his request, and so as not to lose him for nothing, Boston is working on a deal to trade Hayward to this team. Contrary to what we thought, this deal is probably NOT a sign and trade, as pushing the deadline back seems to indicate that Hayward's current annual salary is an important part of the potential deal. So, it's either a rental or more likely a trade and extend.

They'd probably want him but I have a hard time giving up Maxi right now with our severe lack of depth.

I mean that makes some sense to me as a Thursday trade post deadline once THJ is official. Gordon pushing back the deadline to me indicates its more likely he gets traded somewhere.
