DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

I don't know. There isn't really any pressure besides the teams with capspace this year wouldn't want to spend big on THJ, so unless THJ wants to go back to a losing team for less money, then he can opt out for all I care.

Given the opt in dates Mavs will try for a big name trade using Wright/Jax/picks and if that doesn't work out then the fallback will probably be to draft 18 and then do the Green trade. I haven't heard any rumor about this but you would think maybe it's possible that the Mavs just trade 18 for some teams 1st round pick next year? That would allow them to keep a 1st round pick as an asset.
Remember how proud Cuban was when he got to sign washed-up DAJ the 2nd time around. Once the MBT have started the advanced metrics machine and identified their veteran targets, it´s all over. Doesn´t matter if she left Cuban at the altar after stealing all his money. It´s going to be different this time, cause the computer calculated it will be the perfect marriage.

Only difference is that Cuban´s hot European friend from highschool, is a hothead from The Balkans, not some laidback German chick, that understands.

Meltdown completed. Cool  Big Grin

I remember. That same washed up Deandre turned into a unicorn.

Sometimes acquiring a player lets you make an even better trade later down the line.

Wait. I couldn't read your sarcasm. Disregard my post. lmfao

The most logical Schroeder to the Lakers deal is

Lakers get Schroeder
Mavs get Green
OKC get Wright, #28 from Lakers and #31 from the Mavs.

I´m already resigned to the fact it will happen. At least I hope the Mavs are not dumb enough to hand over #18 in the process.

I don't see why the Mavs are the ones paying to take on a contract. If anything they should be the ones getting paid.

First, no way do they trade BOTH 18+31 for Danny Green. Thats a Dolan move. Donnie doesn't make Dolan moves. Second, I think OKC probably sees Green as a guy they could move at the TDL easy to some contender for yet more assets.

They are horrible trade/FA market evaluators, especially whent it comes to veterans. Just look at the DAJ contract. Could have gotten three centers for the price of Jordan and each one of them individually was better than DAJ. Yet somehow Cuban thought he landed some sort of coup by announcing the Jordan agreement prematurely.

They think Danny Green has positive value, because he´s a veteran that contributes to winning. In fact so much, that the Lakers can´t wait to get rid of him. Just watch. Best case it will be Wright + #31.

You say this after the Mavs traded for a 20 year old phenom for a balding midget and a unicorn bigman for expiring contracts in 2 years?

Honestly, if anything the ONE good skill Donnie has is trading. Sure, he's gotten burned a couple of times, but what GM hasn't? It takes two to tango and in every legendary trade for a team, there is another on the opposite end of that deal.

The DAJ contract (I assume you mean the 2nd time they tried to sign him), was just a 1 year deal that mimicked the last year of his original deal because LAC didn't want to trade him to the Mavs, so the Mavs worked around it. DAJ (along with Wes and DSJ) then turned into KP and THJ not even 6 months later.

The fact that Woj is reporting so matter of factly that the deal is essentially done between LAL and OKC, odds are there is no 3rd team waiting to take Danny Green. And I buy that because DG is exactly the kind of guy OKC would want to reclimate and flip into even more assets.

Mavs have consistently shown the ability to grab value vets that have helped them stay competitive for many years. I don't know why we always have to bash the front office and never highlight their good parts.

The Danny Green angle seems to be taking priority in terms of forum discussion, but this quote from the Hield camp is way more definitive than your typical anonymous rumor:

Quote:I recently spoke to a source within Hield’s camp, and seems like nothing has changed. “He wants out of Sacramento and he would prefer to play in Dallas,” said the source.

OKC could have an entire 15 man roster just by their picks lol.

I never saw that. Hield is on the same level to me as Zach Lavine. He's less of a varied scorer, but sheesh can he shoot the ball. Hield would shine in our system.

I'd be surprised if OKC has any interest in Wright. They are keeping their books pretty clean in 2021. Dallas may have to look elsewhere like Atlanta if they want to move Delon.

With no mention of Green, clearly there's more to the story that hasn't been released yet.

Hield isn't good enough defensively to go all-in with. If Dallas traded for him, they would have to get rid of 4 of Powell, Wright, Curry, Kleber, DFS to have max cap space in 2021.

Sorry I can´t give the Mavs too much credit for (probably) getting the better of James Dolan in a trade. Porzingis hasn´t proven the required health yet to make a final call.

Yes the Thunder rebuild players and flip them later, unless they receive an offer immediately that is too good to turn down. Furthermore Green is expiring, so waiting won´t work that well in this case.

Look I don´t hate it, if it´s Wright + #31 for Green, mainly because Green is an expiring contract, but we always overrate veteran value imho.

It´s also a sign of weakness to come back begging these roleplayers. You want to be a Maverick: Yes or No? No, well then piss off. This was your one chance. It´s not even that we bend over backwards for stars. No, we get trolled by washed-up roleplayers.

I don't have any issue with this.  At the least we get rid of Wright's money and and Green takes the minutes Jackson played last season.  At the most, having him here opens up some bigger deals that might involve DFS.

Thank goodness 3 out of those 5 are extremely positive value guys that can be traded easily. Wright is also not impossible to trade. Powell is the only real hurdle, but a S/W of him can free up 8 mil of cap pretty quickly if needed.
