DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

I would consider that Oladipo trade, though I honestly think we'd end up being pissed we traded DFS for him. Still, there's your 2021 max slot, and you wouldn't give up a pick. Find a way to get a 3&D wing in the draft and you're off to the races.

Methinks Greg Patuto is SBJ's real name, given his suggested trade for Lavine.  Confused

Guys, no matter what happens this month, always remember that the Mavs COULD still be building around THIS GUY:

I promise that if you watch that video to the end you'll feel better about the team.

I couldn't go through it, gave up at 1:29. That was just horrible. Although we had to admit he really tried hard to gather this in one season.

I might also do that deal. I am down with all 3 ideas. I do think Dinwiddie and Oladipo are much more gettable than LaVine.

All this shopping for playmaking guards make me think MBT isn't sold on THJ even for one more year. I wonder if the plan is to flip THJ for something else if he isn't dealt in one of these trades.

The ‘Greek Freak’ has been on a long vacation post the playoffs and currently is Sweden.  There, he gave an exclusive interview to Swedish outlet Stockholm newspaper Aftonbladet (with a hat tip to Swedish journalist Alexander Nilsson and CBS Sports).
When asked about his free agency, the ‘Greek Freak’ said, “There are a lot of rumors. Everyone has opinions. But at the end of the day, I will do what is best for my family. I do not see why I could not be in Milwaukee for several years. As long as Milwaukee and I are on the same page when it comes to being one of the best teams in the league and winning championships, that’s fine. When it changes, it will not be good.
“It’s easy, I want to be a winner. I do not care about the money. My family is fine and I can take care of my children and grandchildren, so that’s not the most important thing right now, it’s winning. As long as we can win and create a winning culture, it will be good.”
When asked about him signing a contract extension with Milwaukee, Giannis admitted, “I do not know what the plan is. It depends on what decisions they make. If they make the right decision, I’ll be there for many years. If they do not, we’ll see. The NBA is business and we take it day by day. Hopefully, we can succeed together.”

Let me put a little more gasoline on the Olympic torch from Greece.

Something I hadn´t noticed about the Bucks before. They are pretty old.

Age of the regular bubble rotation sorted by MPG:

29
32
25 (Giannis)
31 (soon)
34
34
34 (retired)
27
23
39

You can add another year to all of them before his super-max would kick in. You want to tie your future to 30 year old Middleton and 23 year old Di Vincenzo.

If you look at it that way, it makes a lot of sense that

1) Giannis wants to wait
2) the Bucks look to get younger

Let´s just say you acquire CP3 for Bledsoe/DiVincenzo and you don´t win the title (or make at least the NBA final), the Bucks have literally no argument to keep him.

If we offered Wright+#18+#31 for Dinwiddie, the virtual Dampier swap would suddenly be the 2nd worst Mavs deal that Nash was involved in.

Per sources, some with the Mavericks have interest in pursuing Gallinari. The Mavs reportedly also want to conserve cap space for the summer of 2021. So the franchise would have to weigh that factor in any offers it makes to Gallinari.

I just think if such a deal actually happened, the real-life terms would be so, so much less favorable for the Mavs than what you guys are envisioning. Assume EVERYTHING of value goes out the door, and something very undesirable might follow LaVine through it coming back.

This is Chicago's BEST PLAYER. This would be a BLOCKBUSTER. I think the dumbass Knicks have spoiled us with that KP deal, but it's not happening twice in two years.

Chicago's best player on a team that is really really bad with him. He's a bad defender who has an injury history. He has a rep as an empty stats guy. The huge + for him is a very reasonable contract.

I think the negatives I listed are things we can work with or won't be a problem here. But 2 totally different players.

Frankly I think the Bulls should move on from Lavine and go full young team and let Donovan coach them up. Lavine isn't the guy you are going to build around ever. And until you get that guy, keep churning young guys thru. Now they very well most likely get a better offer than anything Mavs offer. But regardless if Mavs are in on him... I think it's a pretty good argument that Lavine should be traded from the Bulls end.

Yeah, I think the crux for the Bulls is that LaVine is coming up on another payday within the next two years, and they're not even close to contending and he's not really a player you want to max out unless you're going all in on a Championship.  In another 2 years he could be Aaron Gordon as a player who's trade value is saddled by a bad contract.  I love him as a 3rd best player on a Championship roster, but let's not go overboard here ...  Bleacher Report had him as the 44th best player in the NBA, and that sounds about right.    You can quibble about exactly which spot, but that's about the range he should be ranked in.

Why I don't think the bulls will trade him have more to do with the fact that they just got a new GM and front office, and they might want to hold off on blowing up the team right away until they get a chance to evaluate them all themselves.

Totally agree with this part. I think Bulls will be trading only if they get an offer too good to refuse. Young and Sato might be the only exceptions, based on the direction management and coach wants to go.

It's so weird this year. Like, I don't know whether to expect something to break any second, or whether we'll get a bunch of news at the official trade window opening (16th), or if nothing will happen until after the draft, or what...

Its honestly baffling how the NBA still hasn't released clear cut guidelines for contract options and the transaction window. The draft is 4 days away. The season is a little over a month away. This is ridiculous.

Cue Danny Green gifs from KL instead of Rubio ones lol

I do think if the Mavs don't include Wright in a bigger trade... He'll be swapped for Green.
Green makes a lot of sense too. He's still a really solid defender. And he alway shoots better in contract years it seems. He's basically a second DFS in your lineup. Shoot 3s at a decent rate and defender.

He'd be a huge get if you were able to get a shaky defender like Lavine as our secondary creator/scorer.

That's a 5 out shooting team with 3 plus defenders and Luka that at least is probably average when it matters because he gives the effort. I'd hope Lavine would be something simliar once here.

See as a new GM.. that's why I come in and blow it up early. Get it out of the way and you don't have to worry about being questioned on it later. You slowly start to marry yourselves to the old management guys the longer you got them.

Again take the Mavs out of it... I'm just saying I'd be moving Lavine if I'm the Bulls GM. Mavs or not. I don't think the Mavs have enough to get him.
