I saw a post on CLutchFans that stated the Rockets losing their picks was overblown since they will be so bad the protections will save them.   Tongue

2021: Protected 1-4
2022: Still Hold
2023: Still Hold
2024: Protected 1-4
2025: Protected 1-10
2026: Protected 1-4

If they lose PJ and Covington along with Russ, James Harden will not stay, right?  They could be western bottom dwellers for some time.  One can hope.

@"Mavs2019" I hope you know that your fans are hitting refresh over and over right now, desperately hoping you'll chime in with a "just kidding" or something.

Powell + Wright + THJ for Westbrook. Yeah I´d probably do that. Maybe do the math whether a 120/7 stretch waive leaves enough for Giannis just in case, you can´t find a suitable follow-up trade.  Tongue

I think Westbrook is easier to trade than Powell+Wright. It´s not like we´d want anything back, in case we´d need to clear the room for Giannis. Westbrook would already be in New York, Orlando, Detroit or Charlotte, if Houston was like: You want him, he´s yours. No picks, no players. Just capspace.

@"Mavs2019" I vehemently disagree about the "easy to trade" part. Could be wrong, but I have a feeling Powell will be very movable once he starts playing again. I think Wright is movable right now. (note: in both situations, I'm referring to the type of deal you are, where the goal is simply to remove them, not to win the deal)

More to point, though: are you not worried about what the team would look like in the MEANTIME? I can think of few players in the NBA who would fit worse here than Russell Westbrook, tbh. Didn't we just watch that last year in Houston?

They still made it to the 2nd round playing the eventual champions without a C. All while Westbrook played like crap with corona and a knee injury. So yeah I´d be cool as long as it was just THJ+Powell+Wright.

Doncic/Brunson
Westbrook/Curry
DFS/18th pick/31st pick
Kleber/full MLE
Porzingis/WCS

I might be worried about what happens between Carlisle and Westbrook on a personal level Big Grin , but if they can get along, I think Carlisle and Doncic will figure out a way to punish oppsing teams playing off Westbrook.

In 12 months Charlotte and Detroit will still have 70-80M in capspace, but nobody who will sign there voluntarily. Though I guess it would be helpful, if Westbrook could actually sell tickets. That´s what really hurts his trade value at the moment. Places like Detroit, Orlando and Charlotte can´t put butts in seats during COVID.

I guess the argument is fair that one bad big contract could be more difficult to deal than two bad smaller contracts.

Yeah, I think so. Plus, with the smaller ones, you have the option (however distasteful it might be) to move other players to create the space you need. The second you put a Westbrook or a Harris on the roster, it becomes a game of "who wants this, specific player?" I don't want any part of that, personally.

Interesting take on the rest of your post.

I agree that Luka playing off of Westbrook would work, just as Harden playing off of him would've worked. But, just like with Harden, I'd RATHER Luka have the ball than Westbrook, so to me it's 100% about whether Westbrook can play off of Luka, and I think the answer to that is no.

I DO think they need a guy with playmaking skills, but I don't think that can be the ONLY way the guy knows how to play. Even Rubio, who I've been half-jokingly suggesting, fits better than Westbrook, imo. Even though he's far from a knock-down catch and shoot threat, I'd trust his IQ enough to know how to move without the ball and let it rip when he needed to, and I think he would make more than enough of them in that situation.

Having said all of that, I usually agree with your opinions, so this is interesting to think about.

What makes you think Play-off P is such a big prize? Wanted out of Indiana, wanted out of OKC, now has trouble in LA. It´s trading one problem child for another.

Paul George still keeps Houston relevant imo.  I don't think he is a big prize, just so much better than Westbrick, but again my opinion of Westbrick is very low.  I can't see the Clippers doing this.

I think they need to try again with PG and KL.  Unless the locker room is a toxic mess.

Yeah, you could talk me into thinking Westbrook fits for the Clippers, but I wouldn't give up George in that deal, even now, with his value likely at an all-time low.

The mystique of that team is the MULTIPLE long, two-way wings. Offensive and defensive studs, both of them. I get how some might not look at George in that light anymore, but imo it's still better than a regular old NBA team built around Leonard and Westbrook, and that's coming from someone who believes Leonard is a top 3 player in the league.

I wouldn't be ecstatic, and I'd take this as a sign that the Mavs believe they're much closer to true contention than I do, but for ONE year on the MLE, I wouldn't hate it.

There are a lot of rumors. Everyone has opinions. But at the end of the day, I will do what is best for my family. I do not see why I could not be in Milwaukee for several years. As long as Milwaukee and I are on the same page when it comes to being one of the best teams in the league and winning championships, that's fine. When it changes, it will not be good. It's easy, I want to be a winner. I do not care about the money. My family is fine and I can take care of my children and grandchildren so that's not the most important thing right now, it's winning. As long as we can win and create a winning culture, it will be good.
Your plan is to play in Milwaukee this season and then maybe extend?
I do not know what the plan is. It depends on what decisions they make. If they make the right decision, I'll be there for many years, if they do not, we'll see. The NBA is business and we take it day by day. Hopefully we can succeed together.

I just can't imaging a package we'd offer (31+Brunson for example) that OKC would accept nor a package that OKC would require (first rounders) that the MBT would be willing to sell.  I'd try to frame the conversation around equating Powell to Nick Collison.
