DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."
Kammrath edu us on Trents defense.

When he was in the draft, I thought he would be in the NBA for 15 years with his shooting and size but he was too slow footed to guard anyone. Figured he’d be a poor mans Kyle Korver. But I remember the Blazers were putting him on Luka last year. Luka isn’t an elite athlete though. You could probably hide him on slower wings but that’s who Luka needs to be guarding.

Well if Bobby Marks, a cap professional, is right the maximum price is 13.5 per season over four years. He can´t make more than that.

He´s also an UFA, so the Blazers can´t match it.

You´d think a starting spot next to Mr. Doncic would be more intriguing to him than being the back-up for Lillard/McCollum for another four years. He´s only 21 years, which means attaching yourself to Luka´s hip will get you PAID in four years and in eight years.

We also have some homer inside track through his father. This is a perfect situation for the Mavs to monitor whether he can back up his play in Portland, but already do some innocent family tampering. I mean all due respect to Derek Harper, but Gary Trent Sr. needs a shot at some special guest star broadcasting here and there. Big Grin

Portland might be one of the few teams that would actually value Delon Wright as a cheapish back-up PG rotational option.

not saying I’m not interested, but there’s some potential Hardaway to the Knicks vibes on that one.

Don't get your syntax here. We're trading THJ back to the Knicks?

I HATE that he is a horrible defender, but if we can at least get him to put the effort into it that THJ did last year I think he'd do at least as well (which is still not saying it would be good). I can't imagine THJ not being in that trade though as the salary matches so well. Also, THJ and Zach on the same team isn't all that inspiring, esp since THJ would then be coming off the bench.

Man, if we could get LaVine, WCJ AND OPJ? Honestly, I think that team is ready to marinate and compete in a year or 2.

I can't see the inclusion of WCJ honestly, but Zach and OPJ? I would be pretty good with that trade.

OPJ/LaVine for JB/THJ/Wright/Kleber/18/31/25 first

Unfortunately OPJ and THJ have player options so it can't be done til after the draft...

The thing with Lavine is that he has the physical traits to be an excellent defender. When you understand the garbage teams he's been on... I don't think I'd be trying on defense very hard either. Stuck in Minny that's a joke of a franchise since KG left.
And then he's in Chicago with the joke of coaches there. You could see how annoyed he was by Boylen so often last year. Those stupid end of game timeouts had him triggered ha.

I think Lavine is definitely one of those guys once you get him in the system with right coaching and a winning mentality, he buys into defense. Even Harden who was one of the worst defenders in the NBA is actually pretty solid. At least when it matters in the postseason. Houston has had a great clutch defense the last few years too.

There was a post a couple pages back (couple hours ago...) that said Chi is reportedly not happy with WCJ. No source though so it's all speculation. Just fun to dream sometimes.

Draft express guys said something similar on the Lowe Post.... They speculated he could be part of a move up.
Just with everything I've been reading and hearing putting two and two together... I would not be surprised to see Chicago try and trade 4 and WCJ and whatever else to move up to #1 for Ball.

That might be where Mavs come in and make a play on Lavine. You send them additional assets to help get that trade done and Chicago stays young. Of course other teams could outbid us for Lavine. I doubt we really have enough but perhaps with all the craziness of everything going on and while other teams are distracted by Jrue we have the best offer at the draft and we clinch the deal getting done.

Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

If the Bulls trade WCJ and #4 to the Warriors for #2, the East should be abolished. That move probably has the whole West on high alert. Maybe that´s the point, then the Bulls FO are some smart bastards.

Totally called the Knicks wanting Lewis. I bet he's under consideration at 8 if they stay there.

I’m saying Trent Jr reminds me a little of THJ before he got paid.

Huh

The suggestion is that they want to trade down and gain an asset. Where do you get (Tobias?) Harris in all of this.

I thought player opt-ins were before the draft?

Why do people want all these offensive-only guys and how are we going to do plan powder with Lavine's money on the books? We had the greatest offensive rating of all time last year, let's get some defense.

Sold, just pick one.

I don't think number 3 will work though.

#1 doesn't work cause we don't have 2 future firsts and THJ can't be traded with 18, at least not on draft night.

-0.43 DRPM
-0.7 on/off D

So slightly negative last year.

??? We don't have two future firsts? Is the world scheduled to come to an end prior to 2027?
