DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

Correct. But, he has an official looking social media presence, and it's easy for some to take his (bad, bad) opinions seriously. That's my point.

NBA Supes > All Things Mavs on the credibility scale.

Right. They want draft picks and young players.

They'll have to take SOME salary back, for sure, if they're trading Chris Paul.

If the Mavs are going to facilitate a trade for a rival Western Conference team then they better get PAID.

The Mavs have no reason to get involved in this unless it is REALLY worth their while.

For me that would be #10 for #18 swap. Anything less than that would be me walking away.

I think you are wrong in the narrative. I don't think stuff from the Atlanta guy is posted as a fact. It is posted as idea to discuss. Same as gazillion of self made ideas we discuss.

I agree with your baseline premise. Are you sure ANYTHING less wouldn't be enough?

For "me"...yeah. Oubre, Rubio....meh, meh. I need something legit otherwise I tell them to find someone else.

Which kind of kicks Mavs out of equation, at least as long as multiyear contracts of Wright and Powell are considered Sad

Well, to be fair, WE added Wright and Powell. I tend to agree that those contracts make it less likely they could get involved (in a way we'd like) not more.

Powell is certainly a pipedream. Wrifht though, is still considerably smaller contract than Rubio (or Beverly). Still, I think this is just OKC trying to pump the price.

As for getting number 10 and the importance of Mavs for this deal to happen, I think it is really overrated. I am sure OKC would not need to be convinced hard to take Rubio, Oubre and #10. They can easily flip Oubre for additional assets, if they don't like him. Probably also Rubio.

I said a couple of weeks ago, that it would make most sense from Harden to demand a trade. And ownership might secretly see this as a relief as it will start a rebuild with Harden at his peak value, which is the only logical thing for Houston to do. No way they can contend with the roster and assets they have.

Only thing I hate here is that my posts get bunched together until someone else makes a post so it doesn't let you know if there is a new rumor...

And that makes a deal almost impossible. No multi year deals for 41 mill is virtually impossible. Is it less now tho with the cap coming down?

I'd have to think it's more along the lines of we don't want all these crappy contracts back to make a deal happen.
I take that as we don't to take on Rubio's deal and we don't value Oubre highly ourselves because of the rebuild. Find someone else to take both.

I know KL was saying it could be Rubio based on past connections. That was pre Luka and there is 0 reason to think the Mavs want another PG that isn't a good shooter and isn't a multi positional defender on that type of deal. Especially considering other alternatives on the trade market and free agency market next summer.

The only reason it makes sense for Clips to be involved is Rubio. Rubio is what they want.

Here is a deal that could work tho and actually might explain the 4 teams mentioned.

Dallas: Oubre and Beverly
OKC: Jackson, THJ and cheap contract from Clippers as salary filler
PHX: Paul
LAC: Rubio

Throw around the picks however you need to.

Dallas obviously gets two quality starters for the price of one.
Phx gets Paul. Clips get Rubio. OKC gets assets and flexibility for Paul.
I think everyone gets what they want out of the deal depending on how the picks shake out.
Dallas is clearly playing facilitator here. They HAVE to get an additional asset back for providing the cap mechanics to work.

Is it pick 25 from OKC and OKC gets pick 10? That makes a lot of sense.

The "isn't a good shooter" is valid, but never say never.

I just have a hard time seeing Rubio as the best the Clippers could do, or even imagining that he's who that locker room wants, but maybe I'm off on that.

Yes, it is logical that they want a PG.

Don't see how they could be negotiating with the assumption that THJ opts in, because he's probably not going to opt in just to be traded to OKC, I wouldn't think. I could be wrong about that, too.
