He fell too far, but he still projects to be a 6th man. His game translates well to summer league. The real question will come against NBA completion.

For some of the youngsters here. Dirk in his second season playing in summer league.

I remember those days well. Many Mavs fans (and Norm Hitzges) were convinced he was a 3.
Dude changed the game.

I don't think Mara is going to be as good as the players drafted before him. He is tall but not very mobile and doesn't offer much outside. If they drafted him to defend Wemby then that's just poor. They guarded Wemby better with a guard than with Chet, who is waaaay more mobile than Mara. Wemby is allergic to the paint anyway. They also just paid almost $30M on their back-up center.
Maybe they won't resign Chet, but they still don't have anyone to defend Wemby. No one does. Well maybe the Mavs do, if he ever walks again
Lively can't guard him either, bad feet or not. The point I'm making about Mara is from a depth perspective. Give him different looks with Mara, Hartenstein, Chet, and even Caruso. You want to try to wear him down, but SA has bolstered they're center position adding Quaintance and Reed along with Kornet. So it may not even matter..

Burries looks legit! But Ament is definitely the project that many expected him to be

Yeah, Ament has been raw and rough. I’m still intrigued by him as a prospect, but I’m pretty glad the Mavericks didn’t draft him at 9.

I was a bit disappointed the day after the draft about not picking Burries and posted it here.
However I am glad we ended up with Morez over Acuff who I had higher on my board than even Burries. Acuff seems to be already ignoring defensive sequences.

For me it's still gonna be whether Morez over Yaxel was the right pick. I know Morez is 3 and a half years younger, so has more room to develop, but Yaxel just has a fantastically well rounded skillset that's really good regardless of his age. He can basically do everything well on both sides of the ball. Think Morez will be a beast of a player, but so much of his offensive development remains a question mark.

He gives Philly good guard depth along with Maxey and Edgecombe. They'll be a problem.

I mentioned in the GS game thread how Yaxel was the most impressive player on the floor despite Rez’ 27 points. I didn’t pay much attention to him pre draft because of his age but I can’t get over how skilled and tall he is. We are talking about Rez playing the 5 and Yaxel is just as tall and similar wingspan as well.
I was a huge Pip fan and this guy reminds me so much of Pip.
At the same time let’s not forget that Yaxel went to college for 6 years as opposed to one or two for most of these others. I am not saying that means they will be better than him because Yaxel is clearly so skilled. However think of Morez with 4 more years of college experience and how much more of a polished version of himself he would be.

Summer league at its finest. I saw a 10 minute highlight package on Yang Hansen on the Blazers reddit page. It is fascinating. It a mix of wondering if this guy is a NBA player with his lowlights sprinkled in with some intriguing plays. Perfect for either side. Fun reading the comments too. He is quite polarizing over there.
BTW, Wagler had a pretty good game so the bust talk can be put on hold and Burries is looking like a future hall of famer.

Damn Burries…wonder if Masai doesn’t believe in Lively’s long term health, cuz Burries would have slotted perfectly in our lineup.

He has definitely looked the part. Has played well (stat wise) in all the summer league games. In his highlights he looks really poised and his shot look really smooth.

All of us said that he has the rare combination of jump shot AND ability to finish difficult shots at the rim. Those two in conjunction are not common.
It would suck if he turns out to be a Booker type. His shot is pure.
Two of the highest floor guys in the draft from where we picked were Burries and Rez. At least we got one. I am already reading a lot of buyer’ remorse with Acuff.

It's too early for the jury to be out on Acuff. Small guards have a tough time adjusting to the speed of the game and dealing with better defensive players at the next level. I admit he has struggled with his shot because of this.

I don't think there's a reasonable way to compare Burries vs Johnson as which one is a better draft pick. Individual statistics will be misleading. These players effect their teams in different ways (and effect Cooper Flagg in different ways). We don't fully know how Johnson will be used either.

Why would anyone believe in Lively's long term health at this point. We can all hope he can contribute consistently, but he can't be counted on. I'll be happy if he can give us 15-20 a game this year. He's never going to be a 30 minute player. He's just too fragile.

The Sergio vs Maleek debate I think will be more relevant for Mavs fans than Rez vs Burries. I’m not down on Sergio but really thought the Mavs would be taking Maleek with that late 1st pick.

There will be, but it wont be for years. Both look good right now.
