NBA Summer League | July 9th-16th
Caleb Wilson in Summer League debut: 35 PTS, 5 REB, 3 BLK, 2 STL, 6 TO, 12-21 FG, 7-11 3PT. Told that his 35 points set an unofficial NBA Summer League record for most points in a debut, Caleb Wilson said: “We lost.” Before this, the first thing he cited when asked how he played was too many TOs and missed boxouts.

I was surprised at how few rebounds he got actually. He was a team worst -11 surprisingly in a 1 point loss.

Loser. They need a winning player. Dwight Powell S&T.

Aday Mara had 2-points in 25 minutes - both points were FTs. He was team high -17 in net rating.

To be precise both points came from one free throw - he made one of three from the line in total.

I think OKC wanted Rez and it's pretty obvious why. Thank god that didn't happen.

Could very well be, he would have fit them perfectly.

I‘m still super happy they didn’t luck themselves into a top 4 pick in the lottery - that would have been devastating.

Mara may turn out to be really good.  We will see.  I just can’t imagine he was the top couple target for OKC.

May said he didn’t know Dallas was picking Morez until draft day.  Morez didn’t know Dallas liked him until the day before.  I am sure Dallas and OKC talked trade leading up to the draft.  I assume when you have these discussions leading up to the draft you don’t talk prospects .  Just trade framework.

Just a guess but OKC must have had a gut punch talking to teams ahead of them to find out they are staying and Morez, Burries and Yaxel were the picks.  All three sound like more appealing options to their team  than Mara

Yep. It was worse case scenario for them. I had a big drop off after top 11 and that was the first 11 off the board

Of course they had preferences they couldn't pick, because they didn't have a high enough pick. We never saw any report that said OKC had found a team willing to let them trade up. I certainly didn't want the Mavs to trade down, and was glad to see they didn't, because the drop off in talent level looked to be significant.

On the other hand there where lots of Mara to OKC rumors leading up to the draft as their „answer to Wemby“ - could have been smokescreens, but it didn’t come out of nowhere that they draft him.

But the Mavs luckily weren’t sure enough of their Mara interest to let them trade up - maybe they were indeed aiming for Morez and then had to settle for Mara, who knows. I‘ll believe that version going forward until proven otherwise, because it feels great!

They could have taken Steinbach. Looked the better player in college. 15/11/2/2/1, team-high +13 in 21 minutes in his debut.

....and that´s probably the reason they took him.

I think it´s more likely Dallas wanted Johnson, felt they could get him at 12 and tried to draw OKC in for #17, but OKC felt nobody was taking Mara. If OKC really really wanted Morez, they could have given up #12 + #17 or any future unprotected 1sts and probably gotten that Hawks pick. I doubt the Hawks would have cared that much about getting Flemings with Burries, Philon, Anderson or Stirtz available.

Ok is going downhill.

Wagler???

I just find it unlikely OKC thinks Mara is some kind of Wemby stopper. I think it’s a big assumption that Hawks give up 8 for 12 + 17.

12+17 plus a couple future firsts? I’m taking that over Flemings. OKC obviously wanted Mara over Morez cuz they could have made an offer to Atlanta to good to turn down easily. They just knew Milwaukee and Golden State were gonna pass on Mara.

Your logic makes no sense. Maybe they didn’t want the 8th pick so much as to give up 3-4 firsts for it!

You’re twisting your mind into knots.

That’s not a reasonable argument. Presti is not going to give up 12 + 17 + future firsts to move up to 8. He could easily prefer Rez but not be willing to pay the cost.

You are doing the same saying OKC wanting Morez. That´s also just pure speculation. Maybe they wanted Mara and calculated correctly that he would be there at #12.
