The article says that DJJ will not immediately continue negotiations with the Mavs. If true, does not sound like a done deal.

It could simply be similar to Marc Stein just talking in generalities about Grimes replacing Green who could be traded for Klay. Because if it was a done deal, that would be against the rules.

The Lakers have a $12.9 million MLE if Lebron takes a pay cut.
If he doesn’t want to come to Dallas for more money than LA, I don’t want him. A three year deal starting at $16 million will also get him more total money than the $48 million Golden State offered him.
Yes the THJ trade, if done alone, generates a 16,193,183 TPE to Dallas.
But if they pivot from that to a trade for Klay with nothing outgoing, they can only pay about 13.9 in starting salary to Klay, not 16.2, as they are further limited by the requirement to stay under the Apron.
If they want to pay Klay more than that, and sign DJJ too with all or most of the big MLE, that takes sending out added salary (Green) and probably also combine the 2 trades (w DET and w GS) into 1.
The DET trade has not happened yet, since it cannot be executed until trades are able to be done in the next NBA year on July 6, and on agreed-but-waiting trades, teams generally cooperate to allow other side deals to be added, as long as their own initial deal is still the same (or they agree to revise what it was going to be).

Assuming it's Klay starting at $16.3 mil per traded for Green, and DJJ commits (I agree, there's some concern about that from the PTSD standpoint if they have to wait over two weeks for him):
Luka/Exum
Kyrie/Grimes/Hardy
Klay/DJJ
PJ/Maxi/OMax
Lively/Gafford
There are obviously concerns with the starting five's defense, but no one in the league is scoring on that bench. Not even Indy.
If Klay can hit open threes to the extent he has in the past, then the Celtics bullshit (which will be copied league-wide) of "taking away the Mavs' gorgeous lobs" (I'm still more butthurt about that garbage than I am over the Finals loss overall) is negated by shoving three after three down their throat.
NB: No, I'm not on the Klay bandwagon. I'm on the Klay-acceptance-if-it's-for-less-than-$18m-per-year bandwagon.

It probably has to do with agent compensation. Jones Jr. reportedly changed agents and the new one can't officially be his agent until a certain date.
If I'm the old agent and there is any announcement of an agreement, I'm suing for that commission as it occurred on my watch as agent. What one would need to know, besides when Klutch takes over, is when Aaron Turner's representation ends. Was he fired? Or, was this a change of agents that occurs on a date certain in the future.

This makes good sense. The article says that Klutch can negotiate for him on July 11.

The Mavs as currently constructed Kyrie/PJ/DJJ/etc.. are all ok with Luka having free reign. They're ok with going 3-4-5 possessions not touching the ball watching Luka shoot step back 3's.
Is Klay willing to just stand at the 3pt line while Luka does everything? KP couldn't do it. If the Mavs are upfront with him and Klay is willing to take a diminished role. Go for it.
This is the same Klay Thompson that thrived off ball for 3 years behind Curry and Durant.
Yes he will be fine behind Kyrie and Luka.

If the Magic pursue Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency, many rival executives expect Carter to become available.

Per league source: Mavericks are chasing Klay Thompson EXTREMELY hard.
With Luka and Kyrie orchestrating and PJ Washington draining corner 3s, imagine the spacing created by Klay.

Still a big difference between a heliocentric system and the Warriors off ball movement. I have no doubt that Klay would hit open looks at an absurd rate but the question is if he is getting the same amount of shot attempts in a system that isn't known for set plays, curls screens, split actions.
Mavs would need to make some changes. You aren't trading for Klay (even more at this stage of his career, with his defensive short comings) to park him in the corner.

Gary Harris will draw interest from plenty of teams in free agency as a veteran 3-and-D wing.
Harris is expected to receive around the taxpayer mid-level exception.
The 29-year-old has shot 39.2% on threes during his tenure with the Magic.

No you are absolutely correct in that the Warriors motion offense will be a big difference.
But Kidd ran pet plays for THJ all the time. He runs motion plays for Kyrie. I don't see why he wouldn't implement some pet plays for Klay, especially given his gravity as a shooter will pull defenses and create open looks for guys like PJ and Lively.
A PnR of Luka+Klay will also be deadly. It's similar to the dribble hand offs Curry+Thompson have run for the last decade.

Iztok is out on Klay. I’m not sure if there’s a more trustworthy source of knowledge on what works with Luka
I’m in if:
1) DJJ is re-signed
2) Klay signs for roughly MLE
3) Green is outbound and pays for the SnT (with our change coming back to us in the form of 2nds)
4) Klay is fine with any role necessary and would accept a 20 mpg bench role where he doesn’t play the most important minutes
5) everyone on the team is happy with this arrangement
All of this criteria would need to be met. All of the evidence suggests it’s unreasonable to expect
