Ben Simmons went full VAJ on Rivers. Locked the door from the inside with a chair. Tongue

As much as I think the on-court criticism of Simmons is unwarranted and that Rivers´ comments were completely out of line, I don´t think Simmons is helping the situation either. There were concerns regarding Anthony Edwards background/upbringing and you already traded away his basketball father Ricky Rubio. Now you are looking to bring in Ben Simmons as the new leader? I´m not the biggest culture guy, but a little common sense here. Otherwise might as well bring back Kevin Love as a spiritual leader, too. Confused

I truly think Ben loves all this media attention. He craves it. He'll hold out because he loves his name being in the spotlight.

I just think playing in Philly is not for everyone.  It can be really tough.    New York and Boston are also tough, but New York will love you if you win.  Plus, you get to live in NYC.   Playing in Philly you get more criticism than playing in NY and you need to live in Philly.    Philly has nice areas, but certainly doesn't have the appeal at NYC for most athletes.

Once there is blood in the water in Philly, it is really difficult to change things.   I think he is just ready for a new start.  I can understand that. He certainly deserves blame for some of this.  Some people may be able to put there head down and push through things.   Others just want a fresh start.

I'm so glad we finally get to see what a terrible GM Morey really is.  Treat players like play things, and it'll eventually come back to bite you in the ass.

Is it that much of a surprise? Simmons has always been described as a bit of a diva by 76er fans. It's purely conjecture on my end but I'm not surprised how many "reports" we're getting about what Simmons thinks and how he feels Philly treated him. It seems like every 3 days there's a new tweet detailing how done Ben is with Philly. He's dominated the headlines since the season has ended back in July.

I think he likes being the center of attention and is more than willing to forego half of his salary to keep his name in the forefront.

Bingo.

They're just not a fit. For a while there, Philly couldn't decide which one to build around in earnest, and now that Rivers is there and Embiid is blossoming it's a done deal.

If the ball is going in to Embiid, then Embiid needs space, meaning the guy in Simmons' spot MUST be able to shoot. Simmons isn't a shooter, and no matter how much he improves, he's just not going to fit there.

One of those two guys must go, and most people have known it for a while. Imo, that does NOT mean that Simmons isn't an amazing get for a team with which his game DOES fit.

The following in no way discounts the fact that you're a top notch poster who should be taken serriosly at all times and one of my own personal must reads.

I can't believe that.

My guess is that it's a combo of the "not a fit" tweet and that he can't get over the embarrassment of that playoff series (he was the joke of the NBA) and the hurst feelings and bruised pride that came from his team's comments about him.

He can't show his face around his team. And he can't show his face in a Philly uniform to the watching public.

Like I said, that's my GUESS.

Flattery will get you nowhere here!

You MUST accept that Ben Simmons is a primadonna that would happily give away 15+ million dollars to keep the limelight on him... Tongue

Chemistry obviously matters but they still have one of the top 3 bigs in the game and another fringe allstar forward. Not to mention a solid cast of rotation players. Might be the most talented dumpster fire in the league.
