If he wants to come here on a cheap deal, CHI can just match it and keep him there, thus he has to be SnT. And if he's getting SnT, he needs 3 guaranteed years at the minimum for it to be a legal contract. So a 3 year deal with a PO is illegal. So it becomes a tricky situation where the Mavs need to create a deal that both satisfices CHI while not cleaning out what's left of the cupboard.
It can be done. I can see CHI being interested in Powell given how thin they are at center (they really only have Vucevic. Seriously). I'm starting to sell some of my Maxi stock after his 2 playoff performances and wouldn't be torn if he was in a Lauri deal.
FGump illustrated the simplest way would be a deal centered around Maxi and Lauri being willing to take a 3/42 deal. I think that satisfies all parties. I just don't think the Mavs want to give up Maxi for Lauri alone.

If I’m doing a S&t for Lauri I’m trying to get Colby White as well. Probably have to give up Maxi/Green at the very least. Once I saw DDR sign there, I’ve seen the writing on the wall for CW. It would take more than Maxi/Green IMO, but I think with their derth of bigs if we can get a way to get a first from someone I think that would be enough for a Green/Maxi/WCS/1st for White/LM trade. I’d add a pick swap or seconds too.

Out of all the playmakers that are realistically available, Rubio is one of the best. Why are you against him?

I trust that this is what Stein is being told. Today. (But not yesterday, of course.)
I don't believe it accurately reflects what anyone was trying to do, nor what they are thinking going forward.
It implies TOR just had no desire to let go of Dragic, and is completely committed to him. BS.
It implies DAL made super-strong offers in terms of value, and TOR wouldn't even listen. BS.
It gives no indication that Dragic/Duffy had any role in any of the outcome. BS.
This is about the 10th or 15th different "version" of the situation, depending on whose side is talking, who in the media they are talking to, and what day of the week it is. That's way too many truths to think we are ever hearing anything that's without an agenda. Including now.
That's not to say that we'll ever see Dragic in Dallas this season. Whether that eventually happens or not, who knows.
I know this much - there is a deal here waiting to be made where each can gain a little something if they all work together to compromise and give up something. But there may be too many sides all looking for someone else to do the giving, while they get what they want.

Powell-Green for LM-White
Mavs could offer LM starting salary of about 13.2M, which can create a deal at about 3/41M or 4/57M. Is that too much salary for him?

Yes. I'd also say no to that trade if I were the Bulls.

which is a lot better than paying Dwight Powell for two years
so what can the Mavs add to sweeten the pot?

Powell for LM
Mavs could offer LM starting salary of MORE THAN 14.773M and LESS THAN 16.08M and within that range, Powell could be a one-for-one match, despite base year issues.
However, how much do you like LM? Is a starting salary within that range then too rich for LM, with max raises? (rounded)
-- 3 years with max raises = total is 46.5 to 50.5
-- 4 years with max raises = total is 63.5 to 69
If you like the swap but hate the money, maybe you go to a declining salary setup.
-- 3 years with max decreases = total is 42 to 46
-- 4 years with max decreases = total is 54.5 to 59.5

I have interest, but not at that kind of dough, and not with Kleber outgoing. If that means he's not an attainable target, so be it.

Since we’re paying Powell 11m over the next two anyway I’m comfortable swapping that out for 13.2 Lauri. Bottom line is we need assets and it’s at least a conceivable scenario that Lauri thrives next to Luka in a way we rarely saw in Chi and becomes a legit asset and bargain. Or shows you a skill set that makes trading KP for other complimentary players more likely.
If he does nothing more than be a rotation piece off your bench, it’s still not a huge anchor at that salary.

One more alternative that's more than the TPE but less than the prior numbers, and a bit more value to CHI.
Powell-N Brown (fully guaranteed this year) FOR LM - TBrown (their bad salary to get rid of)
LM starting salary at 12.611M at the most ... 3 years can yield about 36M to 40M

I'm out on Green and it's the only reason I'd offer it.
Hasn't the market spoken for LM? I'm not sure why'd you want him at much more than Chicago's QO. He shot the long ball well last year but he's pretty one dimensional, misses about 27% of his games and his rebounding has regressed since his sophomore season. We have so many one dimensional and none dimensional big men that it is hard for me to see the appeal.
