All,
I appreciate how so many of you are hanging out at the Sports Illustrated DallasBasketball.com ... even with the growing pains!
I ALSO appreciate how many of you have the passion to support Magik's project here ... and I support it, too.
SI's not going to allow me to 'incorporate' Magik's site with mine. But I still look at this as I always have - that all of us are MFFL, and have so many shared thoughts and wishes there ... and that the Mavs "pie'' is big enough to go around for everybody.
It's why Skin and I have been so supportive of the blogger/podcaster parties that we've been involved in. Skin's got his own podcast, and DBcom has its own ... but (maybe because we're old and grandfatherly!) we embrace the work of other and younger guys and gals.
Same thing here.
My focus is on my work and my work is at DBcom. But Magik and Clutch and SleepingH and Fifteenth and Kamm and I could go on and on and on ... have been BIG parts of my work and my fun. So I'll interact here (unless I get banned!) and y'all do what fits you best; I'm happy to have heard from a bunch of guys who think 'us vs. them' is self-defeating and silly ... and who simply want to enjoy both, and Mavs.com and Reddit and other stuff, too.
That 'bunch' includes me. Good conversations here, good content and conversations there ... all good.
Thanks
Fish

Okay, so there seem to be some concerns about this place. I will try to address them all.
1) I can and will keep this site going, regardless.
2) We can also get some advertising going on too. I already have google bots crawling the site and indexing it... so that means it did good enough in its first few days that even google was already indexing. (which means putting it into google search engines)
3) The Mods. Kamm seems to be doing just fine here. Mak was going to help me and us get this combined with Fish, originally. I made him mod as he was at the last site, and the plan was to incorporate... .THEN I haven't heard back from Fish since, and the Maven site took down our link and added their own db.com boards section that is just more of the same. So I am not sure what Mak wants to do, or if he is similarly trying to figure this out like I am. We can get more Mods and/or alter the mods... If YOU want to be a Mod and think you can be fair and help keep things tidy? Let me know and we can probably work it out.
4) I was trying to do this for and with Fish... IDK if he wants to do this, or if it is out of his hands due to SI... I will wait a little bit longer to see what the gameplan is... after that we may have to just keep this entirely separate and get a new logo, etc. I just initially was trying to help and make this for him, so I am not trying to be a Benedict Arnold or something... but I will do what is best for the community overall... which I figure he would to, and he may still pull off with us... but if not? Then we can and will still standalone and can generate traffic, and get ads, and SEO, and all that jazz.
5) I tried to add a chat, but the one I did, wasn't good. It wanted us to pay for a subscription model, and so I removed it. I will try to find another chat room, and set it up soon.
And look... google for dallas basketball forums and we show up on the second page of google already... thats only within a few days too... So give it more time, and more hits, and actual SEO/ads to help generate more traffic? and we might get ourselves onto the first page and up at the top of the google search lists

They have officially defined what a “gather” is, how will this impact the game?
Definition of the Gather
The following definition of the gather will be added to the definitions section of the playing rules:
a. For a player who receives a pass or gains possession of a loose ball, the gather is defined as the point where the player gains enough control of the ball to hold it, change hands, pass, shoot, or cradle it against his body.
b. For a player who is in control of the ball while dribbling, the gather is defined as the point where a player does any one of the following:
(1) Puts two hands on the ball, or otherwise permits the ball to come to rest, while he is in control of it;
(2) Puts a hand under the ball and brings it to a pause; or
(3) Otherwise gains enough control of the ball to hold it, change hands, pass, shoot, or cradle it against his body.
Incorporating the Gather into the Traveling Rule
The gather will be expressly incorporated into the traveling rule to clarify how many steps a player may take after he receives the ball while progressing or completes his dribble:
• A player who gathers the ball while progressing may (a) take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball or (b) if he has not yet dribbled, one step prior to releasing the ball to start his dribble.
• A player who gathers the ball while dribbling may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball.
• The first step occurs when a foot, or both feet, touch the floor after the player gathers the ball. ## #
