I'm not from the US and am not familiar with the US Educational system and also US College Basketball.

I'm writing something that may require me to do research on how an individual gets into a US college with basketball as means.

I've read about recruitment, (although not very detailed as I didn't paid much attention to this). I watched some basketball related movies to shore up what I know (but that might not be a good idea, as most are just really fiction).

A few questions:
1. Can a youngster in the US escape the radar of college scouts?
2. Is every player in the team recruited by the school, or only the very good/elite prospects? And everyone else has to enrol, then do try outs hoping they can get into the varsity?
3. Are college basketball players granted full scholarship?
4. Do players have to keep up their grades like normal students do? or do they get special treatment?
5. Any other league outside of the NCAA? What does it mean to be in a Division II program/school?
6. If Dirk Nowitzki accepted the Auburn invite from Charles, what benefits would Dirk have except for scholarship?

I'm just gathering everything right now, so any information available would be much appreciated (even those not in the questions).

I thought that this was a topic worth discussing/following. I am curious to hear some pov's on this situation. According to the story, Griner has entered a guilty plea, and by accounts actually did commit the crime of transporting illegal drugs into the country. The fact that this is a high profile case, (especially at a time of high political tensions), I think makes it more controversial. There have been rallies and large outpourings of support for her return.

While I feel badly for her and her family, I am concerned about this case from a perspective of precedent. Reports indicate that her release would require the US turning over seriously bad actors. Does her case warrant such a tradeoff? She did break the law. If it was a US crime and judicial system, would an average person avoid punishment? Now, included in this would be the fact that Russia will probably punish her MORE harshly than it otherwise would BECAUSE she is high profile.

I am curious to see other's reaction. I am not sure how I feel on this subject yet. I would say that commentary on whether or not what she did SHOULD be a crime is probably unproductive. There are certainly rights and privileges that we enjoy in the US that other countries do not entertain. I have always felt that if you travel abroad, you need to be aware of these types of things. I have seen the movie Brokedown Palace.

This week's outbreak is not at all unprecedented for the DFW area. In December of 1983, we had a cold wave that lasted for about three weeks, and the temperature did not get above freezing for 10 or 15 days. It was so cold for so long that White Rock Lake froze completely over! People were even driving cars on the lake. We were really lucky that there was not precipitation involved with that one. Here I am standing on White Rock Lake in 1983.

We found a block of wood and some sticks and played ice hockey. You can see that the lake was completely frozen over. Were any of you guys around for that one?

Today is a notable day...
America lost one of the true icons of major sports and a notable piece of the later civil rights era.

I named my first dog Hank because of Hank Aaron who had recently broken Babe Ruth 's home run record. My dad is a lifelong Braves fan, and one of his last heroes has left us.

His homerun trot for the record breaker should have been America's finest moment. A beloved African-American player in Atlanta flanked by two white fans celebrating the new king of baseball.

Unfortunately for Hank, he did not know what to expect. He had received hate mail: from old baseball fans who still preferred the segregated game of the 40's; from privileged Yankee fans who still held on to Babe Ruth's legacy; from ignorant racists who just hated what America had become; and maybe even a couple of baseball fans from Milwaukee who felt robbed of seeing history. As those two white fans approached the king rounding the bases he felt apprehensive and feared he might be treated as a Caesar on the ides of March.

For that moment, Hank rounded the bases quickly. In fact too quickly... Don't think too harshly of Hank he couldn't breathe. Seriously that is how scared he was of being flanked two fans caught up in the moment when history gets made.

It should have been a beautiful moment... what it was - shameful. Shameful because fear shortened what should have a moment frozen in time to be enjoyed by a great player who showed this country and it's pastime that there had been a great sin committed against people of color, and yet they could still achieve the greatest of heights.

I blame the racists, the people who still clung to old timey baseball, but mostly crotchety Yankee fans for not letting a great moment, a historic moment, NOT be a positive personal moment of reflection for one of sports greatest players. Hank Aaron was the model of consistency and a genuinely humble star.

Really crazy. I was able to follow the plot, but I'm 100% sure I missed some of the finer details. I need to watch it again.

Previously I have made a statement as to why I will not watch the nba this season and why I do not support BLM. Here are a few articles that show how problematic these protests have been. Do ethics matter to sports fans? They do for me because I am against injustice and mistreatment of people which right now is aimed at people who chose police as their occupation.
