I am really affraid what happens if Luka burns out or gets injured due to this unsustainable load. Happened to Durant last season, or LeBron in last three. Brunson was able to solidly lead offense without Luka. SD looks like he works best as secondary facilitator.

Two possible reasons (not vouching for either):

1) They liked it with Kleber's defender better than Wood's.

2) (Irony incoming) they trusted Kleber to make the right pass more than they trust Wood.

Maxi was so bad an offense all night.  I just don't get it.  I'm not even Wood's biggest fan but he can dribble, get to the rim and pass.

They ran the same action with Bullock cutting to the rim and scored.
Hard to tell what exactly went wrong the 2nd time. First of all. Pistons defense probably knew what was happening and played the passing lane. Also think that timing/communication was off. Looks like Kleber expected THJ to be in the corner.

Yeah, I actually think BOTH Kleber AND Powell have shown pretty significant progress over past seasons when put in that "outlet" position in the center of the floor. Like, a lot of progress. They're making more good decisions than bad, imo.

But, I also think Wood's ability to be a threat to shoot, drive or find an in-between solution means that in the long run they'd probably be better off getting him acclimated to that role. 

The thing is, I'm not sure you can put that (completely) on Kidd. I'd be shocked if Luka didn't have a lot of real-time agency in those decisions. They ran it like that because Luka decided to run it like that, imo.

That's what I'm thinking.
There's almost like, no chance of either Maxi or DP scoring in that position. It will almost always be a pass.
A defender can relax at Maxi or DP knowing a drive to the basket is unlikely and a score from the key in the form of a jumper isn't in the books.
Not that a play needs to end up with a Wood jumper close to the free throw line, as that's not what the play is about, but Wood can at least improvise and make a go at the basket if the lanes are covered.

I’ve been real curious as to how much say Luka has in that decision. So many times it feels like he’s calling for screens based on what’s best for him and not for the screener/offense. The next time down after the Maxi turnover they actually did get Wood involved in that action and it was one dribble to an easy dunk. 4 on 3 should be an easy bucket every time with him there.
