2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived

Do you think most NBA teams would rather pay Dejounte Murray $15.5 million or Porzingis $31.5 million?

I doubt San Antonio would even consider trading Murray for KP.

I still give the Mavs a 1-2% chance at Kawhi.

I really have no idea what they do after that. Maybe they do keep the powder dry for 2022, but they’ll have to get off some salary and/or not extend Brunson.

It is interesting, listening to ‘Locked On Mavericks’ yesterday they had Nick DePaula on, Nike did not match the Adidas offer for KP after his rookie season in New York. Nico was largely responsible for the roster of basketball athletes signed to Jordan, Nike, and Converse. But.. Nike also is typically on the low end for shoe contracts and the Adidas deal was the largest ever for a European player. Kawhi was also a Jordan Brand athlete until New Balance signed him away in 2018.

Would you do Derrick White for KP?

Depends on two factors:
- if KP-Luka relationship is ruined beyond repair and this is best we can get, I would be ok. White is a good player
- if we have two good players lined up from FA (like Collins and Holmes). I would also go with a cheap center like Favors (and #30) for JRich, Collins and THJ for Warren swap. Try small ball with Collins at C

Luka, Brunson
White, Green
DFS, rMLE
Warren, Maxi
Collins, Favors, Powell

I probably would (and spend the balance on Holmes) but White does give me a little Wright/JRich vibe.  Is there a good reason not to feel that way?

Or would you rather have both Murray and Holmes for the same money as KP?

THT and Holmes.  Trade Brunson for Mitchell Robinson.  We just got big, athletic and young.

We need 30 roster spots and 500,000,000 payroll for everyone.

Or to not spend all of our available cap space on one 30+ year-old player.

He is 45% and 35% for career.....

BUT I would be open to taking Delon again as I think RC massively misused him. He is a much better player than he showed here. I think RC was "in his head" the whole time and it ruined his play.

Even with a M500k pay-roll Cuban could not convince 30 players to sign here. Big Grin

Well, just as I was starting to get over the potential future disappointment of a Conley/Oubre offseason, you guys remind me that a Dinwiddie/Oubre offseason is even more likely.

Terrific.

Cuban is playing 4D chess.  Think of all the cash he'll rake in from the Acme sponsorship.

In recovery from a 2nd injury to a quad tendon. Report in May says they hope he is back to full contact basketball by November, but we all know how these things can go. Had one good season, but has not matched that since and two serious injuries.

Why waste any time on VO when you could be developing some of the talent currently with the team?

So we add Oladipo to the "nobody calls about my client"-list.

1. Dinwiddie
2. Oubre
3. Oladipo

If you look at it that way, all the rumours suddenly make a lot of sense.

Why would any team be interested in these guys as their first calls. At least Oladipo is a Monta Ellis All-Star. Dinwiddie and Oubre are more like OJ Mayo All-Stars.

That's disrespectful to Monta.

Bob still says Conley and Oubre.. pushing hard for Kawhi. Nico and Dennis Robertson had a good lunch today - Kawhi wants his KLaw logo back from Nike.

Meant to reply, not like. But I guess I do appreciate the effort.

(For the benefit of people just joining in, be sure to check out VP's "Spinner of Tall Tales" title.)

If you're reading this, Kawhi, just know that Dallas doesn't leak jack. You'll love it here! But come to think of it, I'm sure Nico can always pull some Nike strings on that logo issue for a fellow Mav.

Wiseman missed the month of February.  That happened to be Oubre’s best month by far.  In 15 games he scored 20 a night with 6.4 boards and was +1.5.  His O/D Ratings were 114/110.  He had a .604 TS% for the month and shot .425 from three on 5.7 attempts per night.

Good #s here and that's why I'm fine with Oubre on the right deal. I don't think I want to go above the MLE. But if it's a 1+1 I don't really care what the price is.

He's talented and has shown major flashes. Kidd has shown he can develop guys. Middleton and Giannis made MASSIVE strides in their games with Kidd as the coach. Maybe it was timing but I think Kidd can coach in some aspects. He knows the game way too well to not be good at some aspect of coaching.

Also while watching highlights of Kidd yssterday, I realized that Kidd was an absolute monster in the fast break. I had forgotten how much we ran with Kidd while here and how little we do now and how bad the Mas are at running the fast break now.

I think we will be running a ton next year and Oubre fits nicely into that profile.
My biggest question is who has been the shooting "coach" for the Mavs all these years. Not talking about the actual titled job. But Mavs have a good record of improving guys shots. Is that an assistant/player dev coach or was it RC? If it's somebody on staff, I like the chances of Oubre living up to his potential here.
