DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."
Am I the only one who noticed that Wood was dim enough to think that free agency was starting at midnight yesterday?

He might be my best-case scenario for the Mavs right now, but a guy who lacks fundamental info which is crucial to his future raises some flags.

Here is Hollinger on Detroit cap situation

Including the recent trades for Rodney McGruder and Dzanan Musa, and cap holds for their three rookie first-round picks. Detroit has $11,544,197 remaining in cap space to pay Wood. They can extend that by another $100,000 by executing the Bradley trade after they re-sign Wood, but that’s chump change.

Bogdonovic is redundant.  He won't be a target today.  IF WCS doesn't return and with Powell and KP a bit gimpy to start the season, our only full-time healthy big is Maxi (Boban is not full time).  We need another body up front (I actually think we need WCS back also and I hope he re-signs here).

Can we pin this at the top of the site or make a banner out of it or something? I think I read through 100 posts in a row about how we need to get Bog like he's some borderline all-star talent and an upgrade over THJ (he isn't).

THJ is a leader and backed up his words on the floor last season. He was objectively the 3rd best player on the team and is a PERFECT fit next to Luka. When I look back at the season and think about what upgrades need to be made, replacing THJ is far down the list.

Like Donnie said when he arrived with KP, he's known THJ since he was a kid so it's more than just basketball.

So who is our 2nd unit PnR ball handler at the moment, ala Devin or JJB? Because that guy has been a staple of Carlisle teams since Day 1? Don't think Terry is going to be ready to be that guy as a rookie. Have to think either one of Brunson or Burke are coming back.

Richardson is definitely not a playmaker. He increased hhis playmaking roles but he is below average at best. Bog could fill that role for us so I'd have no problems getting rid of THJ if it were for Bog

Much rather invest in playmaking, shooting, defense perimeter players.

Oh, you definitely don't do it unless you plan for him to take Powell's spot and be the starter next to KP when he comes back. I'll agree with you there. This wouldn't be "more bigs" it would be "better bigs." I would fully expect them to start looking for the first opportunity to remove Powell from the team if Wood was their guy, because his contract doesn't make sense at all for a 4th big.

And, yeah...I can personally be talked into a one big approach. In fact, that might be my preference. But, I don't think we're sure that's what the Mavs want.

If they do want to play with two bigs, this guy is GOLD, because he's switchable on defense and can play out (with a rim runner) or BE the rim runner next to KP.

I would love to have Burke back.

Before anyone gets excited about this, it actually massively reduces the possibility of a sign-and-trade.

Next!

Not sure what I'm hoping for now. Bet it's someone we haven't mentioned here whom we'll all be underwhelmed with.

See, just the polarizing effect we've witnessed in this, short conversation is what leads me to believe Wood is a possibility here for the Mavs.

His fans (and again, they are plentiful - he's the buzzy trend in the NBA right now) would be clowning us right now like we're debating whether or not it's a good idea to sign AD.

The takes on his immediate future are really all over the map, and not separated by the usual dividing lines of "watching basketball" or "general intelligence level."

That, alone, is fascinating to me, and why I'm eager to see what happens with this guy, Mavs-related or not.

Because Wood's price tag is far higher than that figure, and that's the most that Detroit could sign him to in order to send him to Dallas or anywhere else???

Brunson.

But, I think Cato is correct, and that this is an area they're likely working on pretty hard.

Has there been a single rumor/tweet linking us to Wood?

Maybe yall are right about his potential.  I just cant imagine a world where we're paying 4/60 to another big.

I don't think cap limitation applies in SnT. How could Boston SnT Hayward then? But I don't know every cap detail, so I could be wrong

I do not think we need to make a splash; dump Delon (and Powell but that's unrealistic) and it's a home run offseason.

I am thinking more Aminu type targets like in 2014. I would like to head in that direction with smart, calculated, bargain signings for younger talents that just need an opportunity.

A guy I really like is Wesley Iwundu from ORL. RFA but I think ORL lets him walk with as many wings they already have. His skill set and frame is a great match here, could develop into another DFS.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Brunson is back. I always viewed him as a necessary trade sweetener.

My issue with Brunson is that, while I get the sense that he and Luka are kind of tight off the court, they mesh quite poorly on-court. Brunson is quite good when he's the guy initiating the offense. His body language off-ball to Luka - not to mention his play - seems to be not that good based on the experience of watching Mavs games the past two years.

Welp, it's offical.  At least one of them will be traded within the next two weeks.

Not on the same level as one of the major media guys talking about it, but something to think about.
